Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula: ##STR19## wherein each X is independently oxygen or sulfur and at least one of the substituents R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 is a group of the formula: ##STR20## wherein R.sub.7 is hydrocarbyl, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group of 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer from 1 to about 30, and the members of R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 that are not groups of formula (II) are each independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
- 2. The compound of claim 1 wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
- 3. A method for preparing a compound of the formula: ##STR21## wherein each X is independently oxygen or sulfur and at least one of the substituents R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 is a group of the formula: ##STR22## wherein R.sub.7 is hydrocarbyl, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group of 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer from 1 to about 30, and the members of R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 that are not groups of formula (II) are each independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, which method comprises reacting at least one isocyanate of the formula:
- R.sub.7 --N.dbd.C.dbd.O
- wherein R.sub.7 is hydrocarbyl, with a compound of the formula: ##STR23## wherein X is as defined hereinabove, wherein at least one member of R.sub.a -R.sub.f is a group of the formula: ##STR24## wherein each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group having from 2 to about 16 carbons, n is an integer from 1 to about 30, and the remaining groups are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein R.sub.7 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of from about 4 to about 28 carbons, and R.sub.8 is hydrogen, R.sub.9 is alkylene of 2 or 3 carbons, R.sub.e and R.sub.f are independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, and one member of R.sub.a -R.sub.d is a group of the formula: ##STR25## and the remaining members of R.sub.a -R.sub.d are each independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
- 5. A fuel composition comprising a major amount of a normally liquid fuel and a minor amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR26## wherein each X is independently oxygen or sulfur and the substituents R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 are each independently a member of the group consisting of ##STR27## wherein R.sub.7 is hydrocarbyl, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group having from 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer from 0 to about 30, with the proviso that at least one of R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 is not hydrogen or hydrocarbyl.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein at least one of X is oxygen.
- 7. The composition of claim 5 wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl.
- 8. The composition of claim 5 wherein one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is hydrocarbyl containing at least about 12 carbon, atoms.
- 9. The composition of claim 5 wherein at least one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is a group of the formula: ##STR28## wherein R.sub.7 is a hydrocarbyl group of at least 8 carbons, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl.
- 10. The composition of claim 9 wherein R.sub.7 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having at least about 8 carbon atoms, and R.sub.8 is hydrogen.
- 11. The composition of claim 5 wherein one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 and one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is a group of the formula:
- R.sub.7 --O--("R.sub.9 O).sub.n --C(O)--,
- and the other member of each of the stated pairs is hydrogen.
- 12. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl or alkenyl having at least about 8 carbon atoms.
- 13. The composition of claim 5 wherein at least one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is a group of the formula: ##STR29## wherein R.sub.7 is a hydrocarbyl group and each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl.
- 14. The composition of claim 13 wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl or alkenyl having at lest 8 carbon atoms and R.sub.8 is hydrogen.
- 15. A fuel composition comprising a major amount of a normally liquid hydrocarbon fuel in the gasoline boiling range and a minor amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR30## wherein at least one X is sulfur and the other X is oxygen or sulfur, and the substitutents R.sub.1 -R.sub.6 are each independently a member of the group consisting of ##STR31## wherein R.sub.7 is hydrocarbyl, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group having from 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer from 0 to bout 30.
- 16. The composition of claim 15 wherein at least one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is not hydrogen.
- 17. The composition of claim 15 wherein one of X is oxygen.
- 18. The composition of claim 15 wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl.
- 19. The composition of claim 15 wherein one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is hydrocarbyl containing at least about 12 carbon atoms.
- 20. The composition of claim 15 wherein at least one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is a group of the formula: ##STR32## wherein R.sub.7 is a hydrocarbyl group, each R.sub.8 is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group of from 2 to about 16 carbons, and n is an integer of from 0 to about 30.
- 21. The composition of claim 20 wherein R.sub.7 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having at least about 8 carbon atoms, and R.sub.8 is hydrogen.
- 22. Composition of claim 15 wherein one of R.sub.1 and one of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is a group of the formula:
- D) R.sub.7 --O--(R.sub.9 O).sub.n --C(O)--
- wherein R.sub.9 is an alkylene group of from 2 to about 16 carbons, n is an integer of from 0 to about 30, and the other member of each of the stated pairs is hydrogen.
- 23. The composition of claim 22 wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl or alkenyl having at least about 8 carbon atoms.
- 24. The composition of claim 15 wherein at least one member of R.sub.1 -R.sub.4 is a group of the formula: ##STR33## wherein R.sub.7 is a hydrocarbyl group, each is independently hydrogen or hydrocarbyl, R.sub.9 is an alkylene group having from 2 to about 16 carbons, n is an integer from 0 to about 30, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are both hydrogen or both methyl.
- 25. The composition of claim 24 wherein R.sub.7 is alkyl or alkenyl having at least 8 carbon atoms and R.sub.8 is hydrogen.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This is a divisional of copending application Ser. No. 07/488,338 filed on Mar. 2, 1990 now U.S. Pat. No. 5,093,018, which is a continuation-in-part of copending application Ser. No 07/247,028 filed on Sep. 20, 1988, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,906,253 which is a divisional of application Ser. No. 06/947,170 filed on Dec. 19, 1986 now U.S. Pat. 4,792,411, the disclosures of which are hereby incorporated by reference.
