Abstract
A pistol comprising a frame; a slide operable to reciprocate on the frame; the slide defining an optic mounting recess having a forward edge and a rear edge; an optic mounted at the recess abutting the rear edge; and a notch site at the recess forward of the optic and closely received between the optic and the forward edge of the recess.
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates mounted sights for handguns.

BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY

Mounting electronic sights on a pistol has normally meant cutting the geometry for a single make and model into a pistol slide.

Mounting any other model meant needing an adaptor which adds height and bulk to the top of the pistol.

The above disadvantage is addressed by a pistol comprising: a frame; a slide operable to reciprocate on the frame; the slide defining an optic mounting recess having a forward edge and a rear edge; an optic mounted at the recess abutting the rear edge; and a notch site at the recess forward of the optic and closely received between the optic and the forward edge of the recess.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 shows an entire pistol slide assembled with barrel, sight, slide, and sight spacer.

FIG. 2 shows an exploded view of the entire pistol slide assembly with barrel, sight, slide, and sight spacer.

FIG. 3 shows a side view of the pistol slide and the sight spacer. The dovetail geometry on each part is visible. This dovetail pulls the sight spacer downward into the slide.

FIG. 4 shows the slight offset of the through hole and countersink geometry in the sight spacer that applies a forward force on the spacer pulling it into the slide. The “V” shaped geometry that centers the sight spacer side to side.

FIG. 5 is a side sectional view down the middle plane.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The Noveske pistol slide contains a number of threaded holes that allow a variety of sights to be screwed down to the slide. No matter which sight is selected, the sight sits against a fixed side, in these images, the fixed side is the rear. (It could also have the front surface fixed and spacers applied in the rear.) A spacer to capture each sight precisely is then screwed into the slide. The spacer has 3 important characteristics:

The spacer incorporates the rear iron sight of the pistol, although it does not necessarily need to.

The spacer has a through hole and a countersink for a screw. This hole and countersink are biased slightly to the rear of the corresponding thread hole on the slide.

The spacer has a “V” shaped dovetail.

In function, a user would select the spacer that fits their selected sight, place it on the slide, and screw the countersunk screw into its hole. Since the counter sink is biased rearward, as the screw tightens, the spacer will be pulled forward as the screw works to seat itself. As the spacer is pulled forward, the spacer will be centered in the “V” geometry, and pulled down tightly against the slides top surface.

Claims
