Claims
- 1. In a disc cutterbar having a plurality of transversely spaced cutter modules, each said cutter module having a housing rotatably supporting thereon a disc member carrying at least one pivotally mounted cutting knife to sever standing crop material by impact action upon rotation of said disc member, the improvement comprising:
- each said housing being formed with a collar located beneath said disc member and extending outwardly from and substantially completely around said housing in a generally horizontal direction a sufficient distance to interfere with the complete pivotal rotation of each said cutting knife.
- 2. The disc cutterbar of claim 1 wherein said collar is generally circular in shape to serve as a knife stop for said disc member.
- 3. The disc cutterbar of claim 2 wherein said collar is integrally formed with said housing.
- 4. A disc cutterbar for use on agricultural harvesters to sever standing crop material by impact action, comprising:
- a plurality of cutter modules transversely spaced along said cutterbar, each said cutter module having:
- a housing having a collar extending outwardly from and substantially completely around said housing in a generally horizontal direction;
- a drive mechanism rotatably mounted in said housing and including a generally vertically oriented, rotatable drive shaft projecting upwardly through said housing;
- a disc cutter having at least a pair of cutting knives pivotally supported thereon in a generally opposing orientation, said disc cutter being mounted to said drive shaft for rotation therewith relative to said housing, said collar being located beneath said disc member and extending outwardly from said housing a sufficient distance to interfere with the complete pivotal rotation of each said cutting knife;
- a plurality of spacer modules transversely spaced along said cutterbar, each said spacer module being located between adjacent cutter modules; and
- drive transfer means extending through said spacer modules and interconnecting adjacent drive mechanisms for transferring rotational power between said drive mechanisms.
- 5. The disc cutterbar of claim 4 wherein said housing further includes a base portion in which said drive mechanism is rotatably mounted, said collar being located above said base portion in a plane coextensive with said cutting inives.
