- 6. The head slider of claim 1, wherein the first row is open to fluid flow from the leading edge and wherein the second row blocks fluid flow from the first row.
- 7. The head slider of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of raised protrusions include an angled portion facing the leading edge.
- 8. The head slider of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of raised protrusions include a rounded top portion.
- 9. The head slider of claim 1, wherein the plurality of raised protrusions are isolated pads.
- 10. The head slider of claim 9, wherein the plurality of raised protrusions are cup-shaped and have openings facing the leading edge.
- 11. The head slider of claim 1, wherein the plurality of raised protrusions are coplanar with the bearing surface plane.
- 12. The head slider of claim 1, wherein at least one of the plurality of raised protrusions extend above the bearing surface plane.
- 13. The head slider of claim 12, wherein the plurality of raised protrusions extend above the bearing surface plane.
- 14. The head slider of claim 1, wherein the raised portion includes at least one rail having a bearing surface and a second comb structure positioned on the rail having a plurality of raised protrusions forming gaps therebetween, wherein the second comb structure is positioned closer to the leading edge than the bearing surface.
- 15. The head slider of claim 14, wherein the second comb structure includes a plurality of raised protrusions arranged in a first row and a second row.
- 16. The head slider of claim 14 wherein the bearing surface is U-shaped and the second comb structure is enveloped in the bearing surface.
- 17. The head slider of claim 1 and further comprising a first side wall disposed on the first side edge and a second side wall disposed on the second side edge.
- 18. A head slider comprising:
a slider body comprising leading and trailing slider edges and first and second side edges, the body having a disc facing surface including an air bearing surface generally disposed within a bearing surface plane; at least one rail positioned on the disc surface and extending toward the trailing edge and including a recessed surface and a bearing surface; and a comb structure positioned on the recessed surface, closer to the leading edge than the bearing surface and including a plurality of raised protrusions substantially parallel to the leading edge and forming gaps throughout the recessed surface.
- 19. The head slider of claim 18 wherein the bearing surface is U-shaped and the second comb structure is enveloped in the bearing surface.
- 20. The head slider of claim 18 a nd further comprising:
a second comb structure comprising a plurality of raised protrusions positioned proximate and substantially parallel to the leading edge of the slider, wherein the plurality of raised protrusions form gaps throughout the leading edge.
- 21. The head slider of claim 18 wherein the plurality of raised protrusions are arranged in a first row and a second row, wherein the first row is positioned closer to the leading edge than the second row.
- 22. The head slider of claim 18 and further comprising:
at least two side rails, wherein each rail includes a recessed surface a bearing surface, and a comb structure positioned on the recessed surface and closer to the leading edge than the bearing surface, wherein each comb structure includes a plurality of raised protrusions substantially parallel to the leading edge and forming gaps throughout the recessed surface.
- 23. The head slider of claim 22 and further comprising a channel extending from a middle point proximate the leading edge towards the first and second side edges and towards the comb structures positioned on the at least two side rails.
- 24. The head slider of claim 18 wherein the plurality of raised protrusions are coplanar with the bearing surface.
- 25. A head slider, comprising:
a slider body comprising leading and trailing slider edges and first and second side edges, the body having a disc facing surface including an air bearing surface generally disposed within a bearing surface plane; and means for allowing airflow to pressurize the leading edge and preventing contaminants from reaching the trailing edge.
- 26. The head slider of claim 25 wherein the means for preventing includes a comb structure positioned proximate and substantially parallel to the leading edge, the comb structure including a plurality of raised protrusions and wherein means for allowing includes forming gaps throughout the leading edge.
- 27. The head slider of claim 25 wherein the means for preventing comprises side walls disposed on the first and second side edges.
- 28. The head slider of claim 25 wherein the means for preventing comprises an angled wall spaced apart from the leading edge and including a center portion and two side portions, wherein the two side portions are disposed further away from the leading edge than the center portion.
