Claims
- 1. In a mower supportable from and operably connectable to a prime mover to receive operative power therefrom, said mower having a frame; a cutterbar pivotally supported at a support end from said frame for movement between a raised transport position and a lowered operative position, said cutterbar having a transversely spaced remote end; a drive mechanism supported from said frame to receive rotational power from said prime mover and transfer the rotational power to said cutterbar for operably driving said cutterbar; and a protective canopy substantially surrounding said cutterbar and including a canopy support positioned above said cutterbar, said canopy support having a distal end corresponding to said remote end of said cutterbar, the improvement comprising:
- a guard member supported on the distal end of said canopy support and projecting laterally outwardly therefrom away from said cutterbar and said protective canopy.
- 2. The mower of claim 1 wherein said guard member presents a leading edge that directs objects laterally away from the remote end of said cutterbar.
- 3. The mower of claim 2 wherein said canopy support has a front support member and a rear support member, said front support member being pivotally mounted for movement about a generally transversely extending axis relative to said rear support member, said guard member being formed as a front member affixed to said front support member to be movable therewith and as a separate rear member affixed to said rear support member.
- 4. The mower of claim 3 wherein each said front and rear members of said guard has an L-shape including a leg, the front member leg being oriented to project rearwardly while the rear leg member is oriented to project forwardly.
- 5. The mower of claim 4 wherein the legs of said front and rear members overlap in line with said transverse pivot axis of said canopy support such that said guard presents a continuous edge.
- 6. The mower of claim 5 wherein the rear member leg is positioned above said front member leg when said legs are in overlapping orientation.
- 7. The mower of claim 6 wherein said front and rear members are identical in shape.
- 8. The mower of claim 7 wherein said front and rear members are detachably connected to said corresponding support members by fasteners.
- 9. In a mower supportable from a prime mover and operable connected to a prime mover to receive operative power therefrom, said mower having a frame; a cutterbar pivotally supported at a support end from said frame for movement between a raised transport position and a lowered operative position, said cutterbar having a transversely spaced remote end; a drive mechanism supported from said frame to receive rotational power from said prime mover and transfer the rotational power to said cutterbar for operably driving said cutterbar; and a protective canopy substantially surrounding said cutterbar and including a canopy support positioned above said cutterbar, said canopy support having a front support member, a rear support member and a distal end corresponding to said remote end of said cutterbar, said front support member being pivotally mounted for movement about a generally transversely extending axis relative to said rear support member, the improvement comprising:
- a two-piece guard member supported on the distal end of said canopy support and being formed as a front member affixed to said front support member of said canopy to be movable therewith and as a rear member affixed to said rear support member of said canopy, both said front member and said rear member projecting laterally outwardly from said protective canopy.
- 10. The mower of claim 9 wherein each said front and rear members of said guard is formed with a leg, the front member leg being oriented to project rearwardly while the rear leg member is oriented to project forwardly, the legs of said front and rear members overlapping in line with said transverse pivot axis of said canopy support such that said guard presents a continuous edge outboard of said canopy.
- 11. The mower of claim 10 wherein said front and rear members are detachably connected to said corresponding support members by fasteners.
