Claims
- 1. A disk array system comprising a solid state disk storage device configured with semiconductor flash memory to centrally store parity, the solid state disk storage device allowing data sectors to be assigned sequentially in a cluster consisting of a set of blocks each block being a physical unit of erasure and sequential write operations in said data sectors across a plurality of blocks in the cluster start within each block at predetermined time intervals in response to a write command for a plurality of sectors.
- 2. The disk array system according to claim 1 wherein said blocks each belongs to separate semiconductor flash memory.
- 3. The disk array system according to claim 1 further comprising a cluster buffer which has capacity equivalent to that of said cluster.
- 4. The disk array system according to claim 3 wherein said cluster buffer stores the latest data written in the cluster.
- 5. A solid state disk storage device for a disk array system comprising:
- at least one cluster of blocks each block being a physical unit of erasure, and each block comprising a set of sectors for storing data; and
- a controller writing sectors of data across the cluster of blocks such that multiple data sectors are written to separate blocks during a single time period.
- 6. The solid state disk storage device according to claim 5, wherein a new sector of data is stored sequentially within each block following a last sector having stored data.
- 7. The solid state disk storage device of claim 5 further comprising:
- a plurality of semiconductor flash memory units wherein each cluster comprises at least two blocks on separate memory units;
- a plurality of timers, at least one timer for each block in the cluster, for determining that the writing of a sector of data has completed.
- 8. A disk array system comprising:
- a plurality of storage devices for storing data; and
- a solid state disk storage device comprising:
- at least one cluster or blocks, each block being a physical unit of erasure, and each block comprising a set of sectors for storing data; and
- a controller writing sectors of data across the cluster of blocks such that multiple data sectors are written to separate blocks during a single time period.
- 9. The disk array system according to claim 8, further comprising a cluster buffer which has capacity equivalent to that of said cluster.
- 10. The disk array system according to claim 9 wherein said cluster buffer stores the latest data written in the cluster.
