Claims
- 1. Recording apparatus comprising:
- a holder for a multiplicity of reaction vessels, said holder comprising a support plate having an array of holes therein for receiving an array of reaction vessels;
- a housing for receiving said holder, said housing being sealed to prevent entry of stray light;
- an openable cover for said housing;
- film holding means for holding a photographic film adjacent an underside of said support plate; and
- a shutter for interposition between said film holding means and said support plate;
- said shutter being movable between a closed position between said film holding means and said support plate, and an open position wherein film held on said film holding means is exposed to use;
- said support plate being adapted to rest on said shutter when said shutter is in the closed position and to drop towards said film holding means when said shutter is moved into the open position.
- 2. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein:
- a member is provided between at least one of said reaction vessels and the film, said member having portions of different optical transmission characteristics through which, in use, light from said vessel passes to the film.
- 3. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein:
- said member having portions of different optical transmission characteristics comprises a graduated neutral density filter.
- 4. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 3 and further comprising:
- means for correlating the individual images on said photographic film with the individual reactions which are conducted, in use in said vessels.
- 5. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein:
- said cover carries an array of supports for a reagent.
- 6. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 5 wherein:
- said cover is arranged to carry said array of supports for movement relative to said cover towards and away from said support plate having said array of holes therein.
- 7. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein:
- a plurality of reaction vessels are provided in said holes in said support plate; and
- a member is provided between at least one of said reaction vessels and the film, said member having portions of different optical transmission characteristics through which, in use, light from said vessel passes to the film.
- 8. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 7 wherein:
- said member is in the form of a disc.
- 9. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 8 wherein:
- a plurality of said discs are provided as part of a sheet.
- 10. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 9 wherein:
- said discs have transmission characteristics which vary circumferentially of said discs.
- 11. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 8 wherein:
- said disc has transmission characteristics which vary circumferentially of said disc.
- 12. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 11 wherein:
- said portions of different transmission characteristics are of segmental form.
- 13. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 12 wherein:
- said member having portions of different optical transmission characteristics comprises a graduated neutral density filter.
- 14. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 1 and further comprising:
- means for correlating individual images on said photographic film with the individual reactions which are conducted, in use in said vessels.
- 15. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 14, wherein said correlating means comprises:
- a separate overlay sheet which is laid over the photographic film when interpreting the images thereon.
- 16. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 14, wherein said correlating means comprises:
- identification markings adjacent to some or all of said holes in said support plate; and
- an illumination arrangement for transferring the identification markings onto the photographic film.
- 17. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 16 and further comprising:
- at least one fixed intensity light source for producing at least one reference image on the photographic film.
- 18. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 16, wherein said illumination arrangement comprises:
- a plurality of discrete light sources; and
- means for controlling illumination of said discrete light sources.
- 19. Recording apparatus as claimed in claim 18, wherein said discrete light sources comprise:
- light emitting diodes.
