Claims
- 1. An article comprising an aqueous-alkali dispersible melt-blown sheath-core microfiber, comprising: a core layer comprising at least one water soluble polymer, and a sheath layer comprising at least one hydrolytically degradable polymer.
- 2. The article of claim 1, wherein the hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(lactic acid), poly(ester amide)s, poly(glycolic acid), poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate), or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends, or mixtures.
- 3. The article of claim 1, wherein the water soluble polymer comprises poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(aspartic acid), poly(acrylic acid), poly(methacrylic acid), poly(acrylamide), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), poly(alkylene oxide)s, complex carbohydrates, or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends or mixtures.
- 4. The article of claim 1, wherein the hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(lactic acid) and the water soluble polymer comprises poly(vinyl alcohol).
- 5. The article of claim 1, wherein the hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate) and the water soluble polymer comprises poly(vinyl alcohol).
- 6. The article of claim 1, wherein the article is water resistant but also is aqueous-alkali dispersible at elevated temperature, elevated pH, and in a single commercial laundry cycle.
- 7. A melt-blown sheath-core microfiber, comprising: a core comprising at least one water soluble polymer, and a sheath comprising at least one hydrolytically degradable polymer sheath.
- 8. The sheath-core microfiber of claim 7, wherein the hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(lactic acid), poly(ester amide)s, poly(glycolic acid), poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate), or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends, or mixtures.
- 9. The sheath-core microfiber of claim 7, wherein the water soluble polymer comprises poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(aspartic acid), poly(acrylic acid), poly(methacrylic acid), poly(acrylamide), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), poly(alkylene oxide)s, complex carbohydrates, or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends or mixtures.
- 10. The sheath-core microfiber of claim 7, wherein the microfiber is water resistant but also is aqueous-alkali dispersible at elevated temperature, elevated pH, and in a single commercial laundry cycle.
- 11. The sheath-core microfiber of claim 7, wherein the microfiber is formed into a non-woven web having a density of from about 10 to about 200 g/m2.
- 12. An article comprising an aqueous-alkali dispersible melt-blown sheath-core microfiber, comprising: a core layer comprising a first hydrolytically degradable polymer, and a sheath layer comprising a second hydrolytically degradable polymer that is different than the first hydrolytically degradable polymer.
- 13. The article of claim 12, wherein the first hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(lactic acid), poly(ester amide)s, poly(glycolic acid), poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate), or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends, or mixtures.
- 14. The article of claim 12, wherein the second hydrolytically degradable polymer comprises poly(lactic acid), poly(ester amide)s, poly(glycolic acid), poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate), or combinations thereof as copolymers, blends, or mixtures.
- 15. The article of claim 12, wherein the article is water resistant but also is aqueous-alkali dispersible at elevated temperature, elevated pH, and in a single commercial laundry cycle.
