Claims
- 1. A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions adjacent to the respective waist end edges, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; and a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component.
- 2. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the non-removable absorbent core component comprises absorbent layers and the first replaceable absorbent core component is disposed between the absorbent layers.
- 3. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component extends from the first waist region into and ends in the crotch region.
- 4. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the first replaceable absorbent core component has an outer end, an opposing inner end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end, and a convergingly tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end.
- 5. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein the chassis forms an openable pocket adapted to receive the first replaceable absorbent core component and the first replaceable absorbent core component is removably disposed inside the openable pocket.
- 6. The disposable absorbent article of claim 5 wherein the chassis comprises a wearer-facing layer and a garment-facing layer forming the openable pocket and the openable pocket is openable along a portion of the first waist end edge where the garment-facing layer and the wearer-facing layer are separable to provide access into the openable pocket.
- 7. The disposable absorbent article of claim 5 wherein the openable pocket extends from the first waist region into and ends in the crotch region.
- 8. A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising:
a chassis comprising a garment-facing layer and a wearer-facing layer and forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region and affixed to the chassis; and a first replaceable absorbent core component extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region, in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component, and removably disposed inside an openable pocket formed by the garment-facing layer and the wearer-facing layer, wherein the openable pocket is openable along a portion of the first waist end edge where the garment-facing layer and the wearer-facing layer are separable to provide access into the openable pocket.
- 9. A method for using a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent article comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; and a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component, the method comprising the step of removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the chassis, inserting the first replaceable absorbent core component into the chassis, or replacing the first replaceable absorbent core component by removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the chassis and inserting a like replacement first replaceable absorbent core component into the chassis.
- 10. An article of commerce comprising a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent article comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; and a first replaceable absorbent core component disposed in capillary liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component, the article of commerce further comprising instructions for removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the chassis, inserting the first replaceable absorbent core component into the chassis, or replacing the first replaceable absorbent core component by removing the first replaceable absorbent core component from the chassis and inserting a like replacement first replaceable absorbent core component into the chassis.
- 11. A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions adjacent to the respective waist end edges, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; and a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; wherein the chassis forms a first openable pocket extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region and adapted to receive an absorbent insert.
- 12. The disposable absorbent article of claim 11 wherein the non-removable absorbent core component comprises absorbent layers and the first openable pocket is formed between the absorbent layers.
- 13. The disposable absorbent article of claim 11 wherein the chassis comprises a wearer-facing layer and a garment-facing layer forming the first openable pocket and the first openable pocket is openable along a portion of the first waist end edge where the garment-facing layer and the wearer-facing layer are separable to provide access into the first openable pocket.
- 14. The disposable absorbent article of claim 11 wherein the chassis comprises a wearer-facing layer and a garment-facing layer forming the first openable pocket and the first openable pocket has an innermost end located in the crotch region and formed by an area of attachment of the wearer-facing layer, the garment-facing layer, and the non-removable absorbent core component.
- 15. A disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising:
a chassis comprising a garment-facing layer and a wearer-facing layer and forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; and a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region and affixed to the chassis; wherein the chassis forms a first openable pocket extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region, adapted to receive an absorbent insert, in liquid communication with the non-removable absorbent core component, and openable along a portion of the first waist end edge where the garment-facing layer and the wearer-facing layer are separable to provide access into the first openable pocket.
- 16. A method for using a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent article comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; and a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; wherein the chassis forms a first openable pocket extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region and adapted to receive an absorbent insert, the method comprising the step of inserting the absorbent insert into the first openable pocket, removing the absorbent insert from the first openable pocket, or replacing the absorbent insert by removing the absorbent insert from the first openable pocket and inserting a like replacement absorbent insert into the first openable pocket.
- 17. An article of commerce comprising a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent article comprising:
a chassis forming a waist opening and a pair of leg openings and having longitudinally opposing first and second waist end edges, longitudinally opposing first and second waist regions, and a crotch region longitudinally intermediate of the waist regions; and a non-removable absorbent core component disposed in the crotch region; wherein the chassis forms a first openable pocket extending from the first waist region into and ending in the crotch region and adapted to receive an absorbent insert, the article of commerce further comprising instructions for inserting the absorbent insert into the first openable pocket, removing the absorbent insert from the first openable pocket, or replacing the absorbent insert by removing the absorbent insert from the first openable pocket and inserting a like replacement absorbent insert into the first openable pocket.
- 18. A disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end having a width, an opposing inner end having a width smaller than the width of the outer end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end having a width substantially the same as the width of the outer end, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end.
- 19. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 18 having an outer end having a width, an opposing inner end having a width smaller than the width of the outer end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end having a width substantially the same as the width of the outer end, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end.
- 20. The disposable absorbent insert of claim 18 having an end and comprising a pull tab extending from the end.
- 21. A disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the disposable absorbent insert having two opposing insert ends and comprising:
a first absorbent layer comprising an absorbent gelling material and having an outer end having a width, an opposing inner end having a width smaller than the width of the outer end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end having a width substantially the same as the width of the outer end, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end; a portion comprising a liquid permeable covering sheet; and a pull tab extending from one of the insert ends.
- 22. A method for using a disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent insert comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end having a width, an opposing inner end having a width smaller than the width of the outer end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end having a width substantially the same as the width of the outer end, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end,
the method comprising the step of inserting the absorbent insert into the absorbent article, removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article, or replacing the absorbent insert by removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article and inserting a like replacement absorbent insert into the absorbent article.
- 23. An article of commerce comprising a disposable absorbent insert adapted for use in a disposable absorbent article adapted to be worn about a lower torso of a human body, the absorbent insert comprising a first absorbent layer having an outer end having a width, an opposing inner end having a width smaller than the width of the outer end, a substantially rectangular portion adjacent to the outer end having a width substantially the same as the width of the outer end, and a tapered portion having two non-intersecting sides connecting the substantially rectangular portion and the inner end,
the article of commerce further comprising instructions for inserting the absorbent insert into the absorbent article, removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article, or replacing the absorbent insert by removing the absorbent insert from the absorbent article and inserting a like replacement absorbent insert into the absorbent article.
