Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The following includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art nor material to the presently described or claimed inventions, nor that any publication or document that is specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present invention relates generally to the field of receptacles of existing art and more specifically relates to a disposable cup lid film system.

RELATED ART

During the preparation of a cup of coffee in a restaurant or coffee shop, employees often touch dirty money and other surfaces and then place the coffee lid on the cup by touching the drinking surface with their hand. This causes the lid to be contaminated by germs and bacteria. In addition, employees may handle foods that a customer is allergic to, which are then passed onto the lid of the cup.

Re-usable tumblers or thermoses with lids that have inner seals may be used; however, mold can grow in these devices. Moldy seals can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems that are resistant to antibiotics. A suitable solution is desired.

U.S. Pub. No. 2009/0223981 to William Levey relates to a sanitary barrier for beverage container lid. The described sanitary barrier for beverage container lid is attachable to lids that accompany beverage containers/cups, particularly disposable containers for coffee or other hot beverages. The sanitary barrier comprises a thin, flexible strip of material that covers the entire area on which consumers place their mouths. It is adhered to the lid with a light, food-grade adhesive. The sanitary barrier has an extended pull tab that is not adhered to the lid and extends beyond the bottom wall of the lid and can be easily gripped to allow the strip to be pulled up and away from the lid for easy removal of the sanitary barrier.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known receptacles art, the present disclosure provides a novel disposable coffee cup lid film system. The general purpose of the present disclosure, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide an efficient and effective disposable coffee cup lid film system.

The present invention, Clean Lidz, provides an eco-friendly plastic film that covers the top of a coffee cup lid which prevents unsanitary handling by baristas and cashiers. As such it effectively ensures that the coffee cup lid is free of germs, contaminants and allergens. Further, it keeps hot drinks hot by trapping in heat until ready for consumption. As designed, it helps eliminate spillage by keeping the lid sealed.

Clean Lidz helps avoid having customers replace coffee cup lids with new lids which can escalate costs when the customers make the lid switch for a clean lid daily. Further, the device helps eliminate the need to offer plastic spout stoppers to stick in the cup hole to keep it warm and keep it from spilling.

A disposable coffee cup lid film system is disclosed herein in a preferred embodiment, the system comprising a plastic film for maintaining the cleanliness of a lid of a beverage container before drinking from it. In some versions, the plastic film is recyclable or biodegradable. For the remainder of this disclosure, plastic film encompasses recyclable plastic film and biodegradable plastic film and vice versa. The recyclable plastic film is removably coupled to the lid and removable just before drinking from the beverage container.

The recyclable plastic film is preferably transparent; the recyclable plastic film may be temporarily adhered to the lid via an adhesive (or other suitable attaching means) to effectively prevent human touch to the lid during handling. As such, the recyclable plastic film is an isolator to effectively prevent germ-transfer, allergen-transfer, bacteria-transfer, and virus-transfer to the lid during handling. In certain embodiments, the recyclable plastic film comprises functional indicia such as logos for advertising or to print instructions thereon.

According to another embodiment, a method of use for the disposable coffee cup lid film system is also disclosed herein, the method comprising the steps of coupling a recyclable plastic film to a lid, for maintaining the cleanliness of the lid of a beverage container before drinking from it and removing the recyclable plastic film from the lid just before drinking from the beverage container. The method may further include the step of adhering the recyclable plastic film to the lid during manufacture or after manufacture.
