Description
TECHNICAL FIELD

The device and methods disclosed herein relate generally to hairbrushes used in hair care for smoothing and styling hair, and more particularly to hair brush liners for use with hairbrushes.

BACKGROUND ART

Hairbrushes need to be clean in order to be a joy to use. Even when not in use, hairbrushes collect hair, dust, and grime on a regular basis, but when used, brushes get matted with hair, oil and dirt and when not cleaned, they leave some reside on hair, which affects the overall look and health of hair. While using a dirty, fuzz-filled brush is not pleasant and hygienic, cleaning a hairbrush is difficult and time-consuming. In addition, hairbrushes are characterized by unwanted static electricity, which is difficult to get rid of. Using dry shampoos that are common in aerosol chemical sprays is not a healthy option either. Moreover, it's bad for the environment. In places of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), aerosols now use hydrocarbons and compressed gases, such as nitrious oxide, as propellants. These chemicals are greenhouse gases and contribute to the global-warming effect. They also contain volatile organic compounds that release ozone into the lower atmosphere and add to smog. Additionally, propylene glycol, ubiquitous in hairsprays, could be harmful because aerosol particles lodge deep in the lungs and are not respirable.

Thus, there remains a need for a simple, inexpensive and eco-friendly accessory that can be used with a hairbrush to prevent or reduce static electricity effects, keep brush clean and deodorize hair without harmful effects of aerosol chemical sprays, as a healthy alternative to dry shampoos.

The non-woven cotton sheet can be entirely comprised of cellulose, having chemical formula [C6H10O5]n. The sheet can be made using 100% cotton linter as a raw material and can be characterized by high liquid absorption and retention, high level of adhesion, high purity, low electrostatic charge, high heat resistance as well a high biodegradability. The thickness of the sheet can vary from 0.07 mm to 0.56 mm; in some embodiments, the thickness can be in the range from 0.50 mm to 1mm; and in some embodiments, the thickness can be in the range from 1 mm to 3 mm. The density of the sheet can be in the range from 1.4 g/cm3 to 1.6 g/cm3. In some instances, the weight of a 1 square meter sheet can be in the range from 30 grams to 50 grams. The shape of the sheet can be rectangular, square, oval, or any other suitable shape that matches the shape of a particular hairbrush. In some instances, the shape of the sheet does not match the shape of the hairbrush, for example, the sheet can be rectangular while the hairbrush is oval. The non-woven cotton sheet is commercially available and can be obtained from several suppliers, such as PureWipe non-woven sheet from American Fiber & Finishing, Inc., for example.

According to some embodiments of the present invention, at least one substance is applied to the sheet. In some embodiments, the substance can be a natural plant extract or natural oil. In one instance, Japanese persimmon extract (or tannin, a potent antiseptic loaded with vitamins with naturally purifying and deodorizing benefits) is sprayed on the sheet and then dried at room temperature. In some instances, it can be dried at a temperature in the range from 25 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius. It can be a 25% solution of extract in a solvent. In some instances, the amount of the substance in the solvent can be between 1% and 25%. In some instances, a solvent can be water, isopropanol, methanol, ethanol, acetone, propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol diethyl ether, ethylene glycol butyl ether, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and mixture thereof. In some instances a concentration of the substance can be in the range from 25% and 40%. In some instances the substance can be applied to the sheet by immersion of the sheet in a bath with the substance and then drying. In some instances, the substance can be applied to the sheet by the method of gravure roll coating, wherein the sheet is pressed between an impression roll and a gravure roll immersed in a bath with solution. In some instances, the substance can be applied to one side of the sheet, and in some instances to both sides of the sheet. For example, the substance can be sprayed to one side of the sheet and dried, and then sprayed to another side of the sheet and dried. In some instances, the substance can be sprayed to both sides of the sheet and then dried. In some embodiments camellia oil is applied to the sheet to effectuate a glowing hair effect. In some embodiments, more than one substance is applied to the sheet. For example, Japanese persimmon extract and camellia oil can be applied to the sheet by spraying and drying.

In some instances, the plant substance can be grape seed extract, ginko extract, or sorrel extract. Preparation of grape seed extract can include the steps of grape seed drying, crushing, extracting at 70 degrees Celsius for at least 4 hours with 50% ethanol as extracting agent, distilling on a rotary evaporator and concentrating to product grape seed extract.
