Claims
- 1. A disposable tissue paper product for use as paper toweling, sanitary tissue and the like, said paper product comprising:
- a laminate of at least two laminae of tissue paper joined by a laminating adhesive; and
- an indicator means comprising said laminating adhesive and an opacifying agent blended therein, said indicator means being disposed on at least a portion of at least one of said laminae wherein:
- said indicator means comprises a pattern of discrete elements; and
- said indicator means is not substantially visually distinguishable when said disposable paper product is dry because said indicator means is substantially the same color as said laminae and said indicator means becomes visually distinguishable while substantially maintaining its original color when said disposable paper product becomes wet with a substantially transparent aqueous liquids, said indicator means being substantially opaque in comparison to the remaining portion of said laminate when said disposable paper product becomes wet.
- 2. A disposable paper product according to claim 1 wherein the gray scale difference, when said disposable paper product becomes wet with said aqueous liquid, between said portion of said at least one lamina that is not provided with said indicator means and said portion of said at least one lamina that is provided with said indicator means is at least about 64 gray scale units.
- 3. A disposable paper product according to claim 1 wherein said indicator means is generally disposed between two of said laminae.
- 4. A disposable paper product according to claim 1 wherein said laminate comprises first and second laminae, said laminae being provided with embossed regions comprising embossments having distal ends wherein said laminating adhesive is applied to said distal ends of at least a portion of said embossments.
- 5. A disposable paper product according to claim 1 wherein said pattern further comprises continuous elements.
- 6. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein the gray scale difference, when said disposable paper product becomes wet with said aqueous liquid, between said portion of said at least one lamina that is not provided with said indicator means and said portion of said at least one lamina that is provided with said indicator means is at least about 64 gray scale units.
- 7. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein said disposable paper product comprises a laminate of at least two laminae of said low basis weight paper that are joined by a laminating adhesive wherein said laminating adhesive also comprises an opacifying agent, said opacifying agent causing said laminating adhesive to act as said indicator means.
- 8. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein said indicator means is generally disposed between two of said laminae.
- 9. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein said indicator means comprises an ink.
- 10. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein said at least one lamina further comprises at least two regions having differing fiber compositions, said fiber compositions comprising a mixture of fiber types, wherein said fiber composition of at least one of said regions comprises at least one fiber type that has a refractive index that is substantially different than the fiber types which comprise the remainder of said regions when said product is wet with said aqueous liquid, said difference in refractive index providing said indicator means.
- 11. A disposable paper product according to claim 5 wherein said at least one lamina further comprises at least two regions wherein one of said regions does not absorb appreciable amounts of said aqueous liquids, said region not absorbing appreciable amounts of said aqueous liquids providing said indicator means.
- 12. A laminated paper towel comprising:
- first and second laminae of tissue paper said laminae being provided with embossed regions, said embossed regions being provided with embossments having distal ends, and with unembossed regions;
- a laminating adhesive, applied to at least a portion of said distal ends of said embossments of said first lamina, whereby said distal ends of said first lamina are joined to said unembossed regions of said second lamina, said laminating adhesive comprising an opacifying agent; and
- an indicator means disposed on at least one of said laminae wherein said indicator means is not substantially visually distinguishable when said disposable paper product is dry because said indicator means is substantially the same color as said laminae and said indicator means becomes visually distinguishable while substantially maintaining its original color when said disposable paper product becomes wet with a substantially transparent aqueous liquid, said opacifying agent causing said laminating adhesive to act as said indicator means, said indicator means comprising a pattern of discrete elements.
- 13. A laminated paper towel according to claim 12 wherein the difference in gray scale level, when said disposable paper product becomes wet with said aqueous liquid, between said tissue paper and said indicator means is at least about 64 gray scale units.
- 14. A disposable paper product according to claim 13 wherein at least a portion of said indicator means is disposed in a spaced apart relationship with respect to said laminating adhesive.
- 15. A disposable paper product according to claim 14 wherein said indicator means comprises an ink.
- 16. A laminated paper towel according to claim 12 wherein said opacifying agent has a refractive index greater than about 1.55.
- 17. A laminated paper towel according to claim 12 wherein said laminating adhesive comprises at least about 7 percent opacifying agent solids when said laminating adhesive is prepared for application to said distal ends of said embossments of said first lamina.
- 18. A laminated paper towel according to claim 12 wherein said opacifying agent is selected from the group consisting of organic and inorganic pigmenting materials.
