Claims
- 1. A distal catheter assembly, comprising:
a housing comprising a proximal mounting member and a cavity formed within said housing; a thermally or magnetically sensitive catheter component mounted within said cavity, wherein said proximal mounting member extends proximally from said sensitive component; and another catheter component mounted to said proximal mounting member.
- 2. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said housing is composed of a unibody structure.
- 3. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said housing forms an ablation electrode.
- 4. The distal catheter assembly of claim 3, further comprising a thermistor, wherein said housing comprises a channel formed distal to said cavity, and said thermistor is mounted within said channel.
- 5. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said housing comprises a cap-shaped head and a cylindrical neck, and a proximal end of said neck forms said proximal mounting member.
- 6. The distal catheter assembly of claim 5, further comprising one or more ring electrodes mounted around said neck.
- 7. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said proximal mounting member is hollow and comprises an open window through which an inner surface of said proximal mounting member can be accessed.
- 8. The distal catheter assembly of claim 7, wherein said window comprises a cutout of said proximal mounting member.
- 9. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said component is both thermally sensitive and magnetically sensitive.
- 10. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said component comprises a magnetic sensor.
- 11. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said other component is a steering assembly.
- 12. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said other component is an RF lead.
- 13. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said other component is mounted to said proximal mounting member by a heat generating process.
- 14. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said other component is mounted to said proximal mounting member by a non-heat generating process.
- 15. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said housing comprises a proximal opening sized to fit said sensitive component therethrough.
- 16. The distal catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein said housing comprises a distal opening sized to fit said sensitive component therethrough.
- 17. The distal catheter assembly of claim 16, further comprising a plug affixed within said distal opening.
- 18. A method for assembling a distal catheter assembly, comprising:
providing a housing having a proximal mounting member; mounting a thermally sensitive catheter component within said housing, wherein said proximal mounting member extends proximally from said sensitive component; and mounting another catheter component on said proximal mounting member by means of heat generation.
- 19. The method of claim 18, wherein a heat sink is placed into thermal contact with an outer surface of said housing prior to mounting said other component on said proximal mounting member.
- 20. The method of claim 18, wherein said proximal mounting member is hollow, the method further comprising forming a window within said proximal mounting member to provide access to an inner surface of said proximal mounting member when mounting said other component thereto.
- 21. The method of claim 18, further comprising front-loading said sensitive component into said housing through a proximal opening of said housing prior to mounting said other component to said proximal mounting member.
- 22. The method of claim 18, further comprising back-loading said sensitive component into said housing through a distal opening of said housing subsequent to mounting said other component to said proximal mounting member.
- 23. The method of claim 22, further comprising affixing a plug within said distal opening after said sensitive component is inserted through said distal opening.
- 24. The method of claim 18, wherein said housing forms an ablation electrode.
