Claims
- 1. A method for identifying electronic billers whose bills are available for electronic presentment to a consumer, comprising:
transmitting, via a network and from a first of a plurality of network stations to a second of the plurality of network stations, a first signal representing a request to identify electronic billers of a consumer, the request including information identifying the consumer and excluding information identifying any biller of the consumer, the first network station being associated with the consumer and the second network station being associated with an electronic billing service provider; transmitting, via the network and from the second network station to a third of the plurality of network stations associated with one of a plurality of electronic billers, a second signal representing the information identifying the consumer, the second signal transmitted responsive to the transmitted first signal; and transmitting, via the network and from the third network station to the first network station, a third signal representing a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the one electronic biller for the consumer, the third signal transmitted responsive to a determination that the consumer is a customer of the one electronic biller based upon the transmitted second signal.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information identifying the consumer is first information identifying the consumer, and further comprising:
transmitting, via the network and from the third network station, a fourth signal representing a request for second further information identifying the consumer, the fourth signal transmitted responsive to a determination, based upon the transmitted second signal, that second information further identifying the consumer is necessary to make the determination; and receiving, via the network and at the third network station, a fifth signal representing the second information, the fifth signal received responsive to the transmitted fourth signal; wherein the fourth signal is transmitted subsequent to a receipt of the second signal by the third network station and prior to the transmission of the third signal; wherein the fourth signal is transmitted to one of the first network station, the second network station, and a fourth of the plurality of network stations associated with a Web services data repository containing information associated with a plurality of consumers including the consumer; and wherein the fifth signal is received from one of the first network station, the second network station, and the fourth network station.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein the fourth signal is transmitted to the second network station, and further comprising:
transmitting, via the network and from the second network station, a sixth signal representing a request for the second information, the sixth signal transmitted responsive to the transmitted fourth signal; and receiving, via the network and at the second network station, a seventh signal representing the second information, the seventh signal received responsive to the transmitted sixth signal; wherein the fifth signal is transmitted by the second network station responsive to the receipt of the seventh signal; wherein the sixth signal is transmitted to one of the first network station and the fourth network station; and wherein the seventh signal is received from the network station to which the sixth signal is transmitted.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
transforming the first signal at the second network station into candidate electronic biller identity information identifying candidate electronic billers; wherein the one electronic biller is identified as a candidate electronic biller; and wherein the second signal is transmitted to the third network station based upon the candidate electronic biller identity information.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the candidate electronic biller identity information identifies the one electronic biller and another electronic biller, and further comprising:
transmitting a fourth signal, via the network and from the second network station to a fourth of the plurality of network stations associated with the other electronic biller, representing the information identifying the consumer, the fourth signal transmitted based upon the candidate electronic biller identity information; transmitting, via the network and from the fourth network station to the first network station, a fifth signal representing a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the other electronic biller for the consumer, the fifth signal transmitted responsive to a determination that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller based upon the transmitted fourth signal. wherein the electronic billing service provider electronically presents bills for the one electronic biller; and wherein the electronic billing service provider does not present bills for the other electronic biller.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
transmitting, via the network and from the second network station to a fourth of the plurality of network stations associated with another of the plurality of electronic billers, a fourth signal representing the information identifying the consumer, the fourth signal transmitted responsive to the first signal; transmitting, via the network and from the fourth network station to the second network station, a fifth signal representing a confirmation that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller, the fifth signal transmitted responsive to a determination that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller based upon the transmitted fourth signal; and transmitting, via the network and from the second network station to the first network station, a sixth signal representing a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the other electronic biller for the consumer, the sixth signal transmitted responsive to the transmitted fifth signal.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the first signal is transmitted as a part of a registration session for services of the electronic billing service provider.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the third signal further represents billing information of the one electronic biller for the consumer.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
transmitting, via the network and from the third network station to the first network station, a fourth signal representing a bill of the one electronic biller for the consumer, the fourth signal including a Hyper-link to the second network station and the fourth signal being transmitted subsequent to the transmission of the third signal; transmitting, via the network and from the first network station to the second network station, a fifth signal representing a consumer request to pay the one electronic biller, the fifth signal transmitted responsive to activation of the Hyper-link by the consumer; and completing payment to the one electronic biller on behalf of the consumer by the electronic billing service provider responsive to the transmitted fifth signal.
- 10. A system for identifying electronic billers whose bills are available for electronic presentment to the consumer, comprising:
a network configured to transmit information; a first network station associated with a consumer configured to transmit, via the network, a request to identify electronic billers of the consumer, the request including information identifying the consumer and excluding information identifying any biller of the consumer; a second network station associated with an electronic billing service provider configured to receive the transmitted request and to further transmit the consumer identifying information; and a third network station associated with one of a plurality of electronic billers configured to receive the further transmitted consumer identifying information, to determine that the consumer is a customer of the one electronic biller, and to transmit, via the network and to the first network station, a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the one electronic biller for the consumer, the confirmation transmitted responsive to the determination.
- 11. A system for identifying electronic billers whose bills are available for electronic presentment to the consumer, comprising:
a network configured to transmit information; a first network station associated with a consumer configured to transmit, via the network, a request to identify electronic billers of the consumer, the request including information identifying the consumer and excluding information identifying any biller of the consumer; a second network station associated with an electronic billing service provider configured to receive the transmitted request and to further transmit the consumer identifying information; and a third network station associated with one of a plurality of electronic billers configured to receive the further transmitted consumer identifying information, to determine that the consumer is a customer of the one electronic biller, and to transmit, via the network and to the first network station, a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the one electronic biller for the consumer, the confirmation transmitted responsive to the determination.
- 12. The system of claim 11, wherein:
the request for the second information is transmitted to the second network station; the second network station is further configured to receive the transmitted request for the second information, to further transmit, via the network, the received request for the second information, to receive, via the network, the second information responsive to the further transmitted request, and to further transmit the second information via the network to the third network station; wherein the second information received by the third network station is the further transmitted second information; wherein the further transmitted request is transmitted to one of the first network station and the fourth network station; and wherein the second information is received by the second network station from the network station to which the further transmitted request is transmitted.
- 13. The system of claim 10, wherein:
the second network station is further configured to transform the first signal into candidate electronic biller identity information identifying a plurality of candidate electronic billers and to further transmit the consumer identifying information to the third network station based upon the candidate electronic biller identity information; and the one electronic biller is identified as a candidate electronic biller.
- 14. The system of claim 13, further comprising:
a fourth network station associated with another electronic biller; wherein the candidate electronic biller identity information identifies the one electronic biller and the other electronic biller; wherein the second network station is further configured to transmit, via the network and to the fourth network station, the consumer identifying information based upon the candidate electronic biller identity information; wherein the fourth network station is configured to receive the transmitted consumer identifying information, to determine that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller, and to transmit, via the network and to the first network station, a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the other electronic biller for the consumer, the confirmation transmitted responsive to the determination that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller; wherein the electronic billing service provider electronically presents bills for the one electronic biller; and wherein the electronic billing service provider does not present bills for the other electronic biller.
- 15. The system of claim 10, further comprising:
a fourth network station associated with another of the plurality of electronic billers configured to receive, via the network and from the second network station, the consumer identifying information, to determine that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller, and to transmit, via the network and to the second network station, a confirmation that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller, the confirmation transmitted responsive to the determination that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller; wherein the second network station is further configured to transmit the consumer identifying information to the forth network station, to receive confirmation that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller, and to transmit, via the network and to the first network station, a confirmation of the availability of electronic presentment of bills of the other electronic biller for the consumer, the confirmation transmitted by the second network station responsive to the receipt of the confirmation that the consumer is a customer of the other electronic biller.
- 16. The system of claim 10, wherein the request to identify electronic billers is transmitted as a part of a registration session for services of the electronic billing service provider.
- 17. The system of claim 10, wherein the transmitted confirmation further represents billing information of the one electronic biller for the consumer.
- 18. The system of claim 10, wherein:
the third network station is further configured to transmit, via the network, to the first network station, and subsequent to transmission of the confirmation, a bill of the one electronic biller for the consumer, the transmitted bill including a Hyper-link to the second network station; the first network station is further configured to receive the transmitted bill and to transmit, via the network and to the second network station, a consumer request to pay the one electronic biller, the request to pay transmitted responsive to activation of the Hyper-link by the consumer; and the second network station is further configured to receive the transmitted request to pay and to cause a payment to the one electronic biller on behalf of the consumer to be completed responsive to receipt of the request to pay.
