Claims
- 1. A dock leveler adapted to be mounted to a loading dock, said loading dock having an upper dock surface and having a pit disposed in said upper surface, the dock leveler comprising:
- a supporting structure positionable within the pit;
- a ramp having a rear edge movably interconnected with said supporting structure at a pivot point;
- an intermediate member movable relative to said ramp and operatively interconnecting said ramp with said supporting structure, one portion of said intermediate member being movably engaged with said supporting structure at a location spaced from said pivot point, and another portion of said intermediate member being movably engaged with said ramp at a location spaced from said pivot point; and
- an inflatable assembly positioned to cause relative movement between said ramp and said intermediate member upon inflation of said inflatable assembly, thereby resulting in movement of said ramp relative to said supporting structure.
- 2. The dock leveler claimed in claim 1, wherein said intermediate member is pivotally mounted to one of said supporting structure and said ramp at a location spaced from said pivot point.
- 3. The dock leveler claimed in claim 1, wherein said intermediate member includes a roller member mounted to an end of said intermediate member.
- 4. The dock leveler claimed in claim 1, wherein said intermediate member is pivotally mounted to said ramp.
- 5. The dock leveler claimed in claim 1, wherein said inflatable assembly includes a blower device operatively connected to said inflatable assembly.
- 6. A method of operating a dock leveler having a supporting structure, a ramp pivotally-mounted to said support structure at a pivot point, an intermediate member pivotable relative to said ramp, and an inflatable assembly positioned to cause movement of the intermediate member upon inflation of the inflatable member, said method comprising the steps of:
- inflating the inflatable member;
- transmitting a force in the intermediate member between the supporting structure and the ramp; and
- pivoting the intermediate member relative to the ramp and about an axis spaced from the pivot point, thereby pivoting the ramp.
- 7. The method claimed in claim 6, wherein the intermediate member further comprises a roller member mounted to an end of the intermediate member, and wherein said step of moving the intermediate member further comprises the step of rotating the roller member.
- 8. The method claimed in claim 6, wherein said step of pivoting the ramp comprises the step of raising the ramp.
- 9. A dock leveler adapted to be mounted to a loading dock, said loading dock having an upper dock surface and having a pit disposed in said upper surface, the dock leveler comprising:
- a supporting structure positionable within the pit;
- a ramp having a rear edge movably interconnected with said supporting structure;
- an intermediate member movable relative to said ramp and operatively interconnecting said ramp with said supporting structure such that a force can be transmitted between said supporting structure and said ramp, said intermediate member including a roller member mounted to an end of said intermediate member; and
- an inflatable assembly positioned to cause relative movement between said ramp and said intermediate member upon inflation of said inflatable assembly, thereby resulting in movement of said ramp relative to said supporting structure.
- 10. The dock leveler claimed in claim 9, wherein said roller member is positioned in rolling engagement with said ramp.
- 11. The dock leveler claimed in claim 9, wherein said roller member is positioned in rolling engagement with said supporting structure.
