Claims
- 1. A reinforcement assembly for reinforcing a door assembly having a pair of jambs, a door that moves past a side of one of the jambs as the door swings into and out of a closed position, and a bolt shiftably mounted to the door to be received within a bolt-receiving opening defined in the one jamb when the door is in the closed position, said reinforcement assembly comprising:
a strike plate attachable to the one jamb, said strike plate including a substantially flat body and a substantially flat projection, said projection extending generally transversely from the body, said body having a bolt-receiving hole spaced from the projection and substantially aligned with the bolt-receiving opening defined in the one jamb when the projection is placed against the side of the one jamb; and a substantially flat reinforcement plate that is relatively longer than the projection and attachable to the side of the one jamb to overlie the projection, said reinforcement plate being fastened to the strike plate.
- 2. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 1; and
at least one screw extending through the reinforcement plate and the strike plate and threadably engaging the one jamb, said at least one wood screw not threadably engaging the reinforcement plate or the strike plate.
- 3. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 1; and
at least one screw extending through the reinforcement plate and threadably engaging the strike plate.
- 4. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 3,
said strike plate including a cam element that is spaced from the projection and projects from the body.
- 5. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 4,
said body including a flat section that extends between the bolt-receiving hole and the cam element, with said projection extending generally transversely from the flat section.
- 6. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 5,
said body, projection, and cam element being integrally formed of extruded metal.
- 7. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 6,
said cam element having at least a portion thereof that is generally arcuate in shape.
- 8. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 7,
said reinforcement plate being formed of metal.
- 9. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 7,
said body presenting substantially parallel sides that are generally aligned with the side of the one jamb when the strike plate is attached thereto, with said bolt-receiving opening being spaced between the sides of the body, said cam element projecting from one of the sides of the body, said projection extending from the body adjacent said one of the sides of the body.
- 10. A reinforcement assembly as claimed in claim 1,
said reinforcement plate wider than the projection to thereby completely cover the projection.
- 11. A door assembly comprising:
a pair of spaced apart jambs; a door swingably mounted relative to the pair of jambs for swinging movement into and out of a closed position in which the door is located generally between the jambs, each jamb presenting opposite interior and exterior sides; door hardware configured to associate the door with one of the jambs, at least a portion of said door hardware being mounted to the one jamb, said door hardware including a substantially flat body extending between the sides of the one jamb and a substantially flat projection extending generally transversely from the flat body to extend lengthwise and widthwise alongside one of the sides of the one jamb; and a substantially flat reinforcement plate attached to said one of the sides of the one jamb to extend lengthwise and widthwise along said one of the sides of the one jamb, said reinforcement plate presenting length and width dimensions that are relatively greater than length and width dimensions of the projection, said projection being positioned between the reinforcement plate and the one jamb, said reinforcement plate being fastened to the door hardware.
- 12. The door assembly as claimed in claim 11; and
at least one screw extending through the reinforcement plate and the door hardware and threadably engaging the one jamb, said at least one screw not threadably engaging the reinforcement plate or the door hardware.
- 13. The door assembly as claimed in claim 11; and
at least one screw extending through the reinforcement plate and threadably engaging the door hardware.
- 14. The door assembly as claimed in claim 11,
said door hardware comprising a door hinge.
- 15. The door assembly as claimed in claim 11,
said at least a portion of said door hardware comprising a strike plate, said door hardware further including a bolt shiftably mounted to the door.
- 16. The door assembly as claimed in claim 15,
said one jamb including a bolt-receiving opening spaced between the sides, with the door moving past one of the side as the door swings out of the closed position, said bolt being receivable within the bolt-receiving opening of the one jamb when the door is in the closed position.
- 17. The door assembly as claimed in claim 16,
said flat body including a bolt-receiving hole that is substantially aligned with the bolt-receiving opening defined in the one jamb, said flat projection being spaced from the bolt-receiving hole.
- 18. The door assembly as claimed in claim 17,
said body presenting substantially parallel sides that are generally aligned with the sides of the one jamb, with the bolt-receiving opening being spaced between the sides of the body, said strike plate including a cam element that is spaced from the projection and projecting from one of the sides of the body beyond said one of the sides of the one jamb, said projection extending from the body adjacent said one of the sides of the body.
- 19. The door assembly as claimed in claim 18,
said body, projection, and cam element being integrally formed of extruded metal, wherein said cam element has at least a portion thereof that is generally arcuate in shape.
- 20. The door assembly as claimed in claim 18,
said body being recessed in the one jamb.
- 21. The door assembly as claimed in claim 20,
said reinforcement plate and said one jamb being substantially coextensive.
- 22. The door assembly as claimed in claim 21,
said projection being recessed in said one of the sides of the one jamb so that the reinforcement plate sets flatly against said one of the sides of the one jamb.
