Claims
- 1. A door slam safety mechanism comprising:
a door panel, said door panel having a front edge, an upper end and a lower end; a door jamb, said door jamb forming a frame around and adjacent to said door panel and adapted to abut said door panel when said door panel is in a closed position; a hollowed-out portion formed in the front edge of said door panel; first means disposed in said hollowed-out portion and second means disposed on said door jamb for preventing said door panel from slamming against said door jamb.
- 2. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 1, wherein said first means includes a casing disposed in said hollowed-out portion, said casing having a top wall, a bottom wall, spaced side walls, a rear wall and an open front face.
- 3. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 2, including a pivot pin positioned in said casing and spanning the space between the side walls; and
a nylon sheath disposed around said pivot pin.
- 4. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 3, wherein said first means includes a weighted pendulum, said pendulum being housed in said casing and disposed on said nylon sheath and pivot pin for swinging movement thereon.
- 5. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 4, wherein said weighted pendulum is of triangular configuration having a front leg, a rear leg, and a base connecting said front leg to said rear leg, said base having a first side and a second side;
a ridge disposed on each said first side and said second side of said base; a web member, said web member positioned at a central portion of said pendulum and wherein said web member extends from said front leg to said rear leg.
- 6. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 5, wherein a high percentage of the weight of said weighted pendulum is concentrated in said base adjacent said front leg, whereby said pendulum may extend out of said casing when impelled by a centrifugal force caused by a fast closure of the door panel.
- 7. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 6, wherein said second means is a raised body attached to said doors jamb; and
third means for emitting an audible signal when said pendulum is extended out of said casing.
- 8. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 7, wherein said raised body is attached to said door jamb in an area to be impacted by said pendulum when extended.
- 9. A door slam safety mechanism comprising:
a door panel, said door panel having a front edge, an upper end and a lower end; a door jamb, said door jamb forming a frame around and adjacent to said door panel and adapted to abut said door panel when said door panel is in a closed position; a hollowed-out portion formed in the front edge of said door panel; a raised body attached to said door jamb; means extending from said hollowed-out portion for impacting against said raised body to create a clearance between said door panel and said door jamb and to prevent said door panel from slamming against said door jamb.
- 10. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 9, wherein a rounded, leading edge is formed on said raised body and said clearance is at least approximately one-half inch.
- 11. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 10, said raised body is fabricated from metal.
- 12. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 11, wherein said means includes a casing disposed in said hollowed-out portion, said casing having a top wall, a bottom wall, spaced side walls, a rear wall and an open front face.
- 13. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 12, including a pivot pin positioned in said casing and spanning the space between the side walls.
- 14. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 13, wherein said means includes a weighted pendulum, said pendulum being housed in said casing and disposed on said pivot pin for swinging movement thereon.
- 15. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 14, wherein said weighted pendulum is of triangular configuration having a front leg, a rear leg, and a base connecting said front leg to said rear leg.
- 16. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 15, wherein a high percentage of the weight of said weighted pendulum is concentrated in said base adjacent said front leg, whereby said pendulum may extend out of said casing when impelled by a centrifugal force caused by a fast closure of the door panel.
- 17. A door slam safety mechanism as recited in claim 16, wherein said pendulum is fabricated from metal.
- 18. A door slam mechanism as recited in claim 17, wherein said hollowed-out portion and said raised body are positioned adjacent said upper end of said door panel.
