Claims
- 1. A frame member for use in a door jamb assembly adapted to be installed in an opening formed in a wall of a building structure to receive and support a hinged door, said frame member comprising:
- an elongated jamb member having an inside edge portion, an outside edge portion, and an inside face;
- a molding and stop member mounted to said jamb member extending generally along said outside edge portion thereof;
- said molding and stop member being configured to define a first leg that overlies a portion of said inside face of said jamb member, said first leg forming a raised stop relative to said inside face of said jamb member, said stop extending along the length of said jamb member intermediate said inside and outside edge portions thereof; and
- said molding and stop member being further configured to define a decorative molding portion that extends along the length of said jamb member adjacent and covering said outside edge thereof for protecting said outside edge and for providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance to said frame member.
- 2. A frame member as claimed in claim 1 and wherein said jamb member also has an outside face and wherein said molding and stop member further comprises a tab extending from said molding and stop member and overlying at least a portion of said outside face of said jamb member, and fastening means extending through said attachment tab and into said jamb member for securing said molding and stop member to said jamb member.
- 3. A frame member as claimed in claim 2 and wherein said tab extends substantially along the entire length of said molding and stop member and wherein said fastening means comprises staples.
- 4. A frame member as claimed in claim 1 and wherein said molding and stop member is formed of extruded plastic material having a relatively less dense core and a relatively more dense outer skin.
- 5. A doorjamb and brickmold assembly for installation in an opening formed in a wall of a building structure to receive and support a hinged door, said door jamb and brickmold assembly comprising;
- an elongated jamb member having an inside edge portion, an outside edge portion, an inside face, and an outside face;
- a brickmold and stop member mounted to said jamb member extending along the outside edge portion thereof;
- said brickmold and stop member being configured to define a leg that overlies a portion of said inside face of said jamb member and that forms a raised stop relative to said inside face of said jamb member, said stop extending along the length of said jamb member intermediate said inside and outside edge portions thereof;
- said brickmold and stop member being further configured to define a decorative brickmold portion that extends along the length of said jamb member adjacent to and covering said outside edge thereof for protecting said outside edge of said jamb member and for providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance; and
- a tab extending from said brickmold and stop member and overlying at least a portion of said outside face of said jamb member for receiving fasteners adapted to secure said tab and said brickmold and stop member to said jamb member.
- 6. A door jamb and brickmold assembly as claimed in claim 5 and wherein said raised stop is configured to define a recess extending along the length of said stop for receiving and holding a length of weather stripping.
- 7. A door jamb and brickmold assembly as claimed in claim 5 and wherein said brickmold and stop member is formed of extruded plastic material having a relatively less dense inner core and a relatively more dense outer skin.
- 8. An extruded thermoplastic brickmold and stop member for mounting to an elongated jamb member that has inside and outside edges and an inside face, said brickmold and stop member comprising a substantially solid body formed to define a leg portion configured to overlie a portion of the inside face of the jamb member and to form with respect thereto a raised stop extending along the length of the jamb member, said body being further formed to define a decorative brickmold portion configured to cover the outside edge of the jamb member and to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
- 9. A frame member for use in a door jamb assembly installable in an opening formed in a wall of a building structure to receive and support a hinged door, said frame member comprising:
- an elongated first member having an inside edge, an outside edge, and a face;
- an elongated second member mounted to said first member extending along the length thereof;
- said second member having a leg that overlies a portion of said face of said first member, said leg forming a raised stop relative to said face of said first member with said raised stop extending along the length of said first member intermediate said inside and outside edges thereof; and
- a portion of said second member covering and extending outwardly a predetermined distance from said outside edge of said first member to a distal edge of said second member.
- 10. A frame member as claimed in claim 9 and wherein said second member is formed of extruded plastic material having a relatively less dense core and a relatively more dense outer skin.
- 11. A frame member as claimed in claim 10 and further comprising a decorative molding extending along said distal edge of said second member.
- 12. A frame member as claimed in claim 11 and wherein said decorative molding is secured to said distal edge of said second member and extends along the length thereof.
- 13. A frame member as claimed in claim 12 and wherein said decorative molding is formed of extruded plastic material having a relatively less dense core and a relatively more dense outer skin.
- 14. A frame member as claimed in claim 11 and wherein said decorative molding is extruded with and forms a part of said second member.
- 15. A doorjamb assembly comprising:
- an elongated first member formed from a first material, said first member having a length and a width, opposed edges, and a substantially flat face extending between said opposed edges;
- a second member formed of a second material, said second member being mounted to said first member extending along the length thereof;
- said second member having a leg that overlies a portion of said face of said first member and that forms a raised stop relative to said face;
- said raised stop extending along the length of said first member intermediate said opposed edges thereof; and
- a portion of said second member covering one of said opposed edges of said first member and projecting outwardly therefrom to a distal edge of said second member.
- 16. The doorjamb assembly of claim 15 and wherein said second material comprises extruded plastic having a relatively less dense core and a relatively more dense outer skin.
- 17. The doorjamb assembly of claim 16 and wherein said first material is wood.
