Claims
- 1. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising lowering a hollow-interior core barrel beneath the surface of the ground into a shaft created by said core barrel, said core barrel having a plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate the perimeter of said core barrel;rotating said core barrel while operating said plurality of hammer drills, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core; withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; removing the core; and placing a cementitious material in the shaft to form a pile.
- 2. A method of pile construction according to claim 1, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the shaft.
- 3. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising rotating a hollow-interior core barrel having a plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate the perimeter of said core barrel;operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core; withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a metallic casement in the kerf to form a pile.
- 4. A method of pile construction according to claim 3, wherein the metallic casement extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 5. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising rotating a hollow-interior core barrel having a plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate the perimeter of said core barrel;operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core; withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; placing a metallic casement in the kerf to form a pile, wherein the metallic casement extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf; and grouting the kerf on both sides of the metallic casement.
- 6. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising:drilling an annular kerf in the ground with a hollow-interior core barrel having an inner wall and an outer wall and a plurality of hammer drills disposed therebetween, said hammer drills having working ends; circulating a drilling slurry downward through the walls of said core barrel and across the working ends of said plurality of hammer drills to cool and wash the working ends; flushing cuttings from the kerf; withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; placing a metallic casement in the kerf, said metallic casement extending at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf; and grouting the kerf on both sides of the metallic casement.
- 7. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising driving a top end of a substantially vertical hollow-interior core barrel with a rotating kelly bar or top drive rotary, said core barrel having a diameter of at least 36 inches and plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate its perimeter;operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core, wherein said kerf has a diameter greater than said top end of said core barrel.
- 8. A method of pile construction according to claim 7, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; removing the core; and placing a cementitious material in the resulting shaft to form a pile.
- 9. A method of pile construction according to claim 8, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the shaft.
- 10. A method of pile construction according to claim 7, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a metallic casement in the kerf to form a pile.
- 11. A method of pile construction according to claim 10, wherein the metallic casement extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 12. A method of pile construction according to claim 11, further comprising grouting the kerf on both sides of the metallic casement.
- 13. A method of pile construction according to claim 7, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a cementitious material in the kerf to form a pile.
- 14. A method of pile construction according to claim 13, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 15. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising rotating a hollow-interior core barrel having a plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate the perimeter of said core barrel;delivering air to said hammer drills through an air channel defined by plates forming a top of the core barrel; and operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core.
- 16. A method of pile construction according to claim 15, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; removing the core; and placing a cementitious material in the resulting shaft to form a pile.
- 17. A method of pile construction according to claim 16, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the shaft.
- 18. A method of pile construction according to claim 15, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a metallic casement in the kerf to form a pile.
- 19. A method of pile construction according to claim 18, wherein the metallic casement extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 20. A method of pile construction according to claim 19, further comprising grouting the kerf on both sides of the metallic casement.
- 21. A method of pile construction according to claim 15, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a cementitious material in the kerf to form a pile.
- 22. A method of pile construction according to claim 21, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 23. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, comprising driving a proximal end of a hollow-interior core barrel with a rotating kelly bar or top drive rotary, said core barrel having a diameter of between 36 and 72 inches and plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate its perimeter;operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core, wherein said kerf has a diameter greater than said proximal end of said core barrel.
- 24. A method of pile construction according to claim 23, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; removing the core; and placing a cementitious material in the resulting shaft to form a pile.
- 25. A method of pile construction according to claim 24, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the shaft.
- 26. A method of pile construction according to claim 23, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a metallic casement in the kerf to form a pile.
- 27. A method of pile construction according to claim 26, wherein the metallic casement extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 28. A method of pile construction according to claim 27, further comprising grouting the kerf on both sides of the metallic casement.
- 29. A method of pile construction according to claim 23, further comprising:withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a cementitious material in the kerf to form a pile.
- 30. A method of pile construction according to claim 29, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
- 31. A method of constructing a pile in the ground, for use in foundation systems or underground barriers, comprising rotating a hollow-interior core barrel having a plurality of hammer drills disposed proximate the perimeter of said core barrel;operating said plurality of hammer drills during said rotating step, thereby to drill an annular kerf around a core; withdrawing the core barrel from the kerf after completion of said rotating step; and placing a cementitious material in the kerf to form a pile.
- 32. A method of pile construction according to claim 31, wherein the cementitious material extends at least substantially the entire depth of the kerf.
