Claims
- 1. Apparatus for controlling wells during drilling operations comprising:
- a tubular casing insertable into a drill string;
- a shiftable sleeve means disposed within and shiftable with respect to said tubular casing;
- spring means for holding said sleeve means in a first location within said tubular casing;
- an opening in said sleeve means for passing fluid therethrough;
- a first ball means insertable within said opening for closing said opening and precluding fluid from passing therethrough for shifting said sleeve means within said tubular casing;
- said first ball means being deformable under increased fluid pressure for being forced through and out of said opening.
- 2. Apparatus as defined in claim 1 including an inflatable packer, and means for inflating said packer when said ball means is disposed within said opening.
- 3. Apparatus as defined in claim 1 including a second ball means, an outlet in said tubular casing for passage of fluid therethrough, said second ball being of a size for sealing said outlet for creating sufficient pressure on said first ball means for deforming the same and forcing it through said opening.
- 4. Apparatus as defined in claim 1 including ball catcher means disposed for receiving said first ball means after it is forced out of said opening, and means in said ball catcher means for allowing passage of fluid therethrough.
