Abstract
The present inventive concept relates to a drapery hanging system, especially the construction of a drapery rod and hardware. The drapery hanging system consists of a basic rod which is mounted adjacent to a window and at its top. The basic rod has a hollow tube sliding thereon to be able to adjust the same to a predetermined length. The hollow tube has a set screw thereon to apply a lateral pressure against the basic rod to arrest the same in a preset length. The basic rod can be mounted either to a vertical wall or against the ceiling. A free end of the hollow tube has a decorating item thereon to enhance the appearance of the drapery hanging system.

This application is a Refile of the application Ser. No. 13/010,913, filed on Jan. 21, 2011, now abandoned.


BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

A wide variety of devices are used to permit the mounting and/or placement of drapery rods and the like. These devices include various brackets and other mounting hardware. To date however, all such devices do not permit both the mounting of drapery hardware while simultaneously permitting the mounting of additional ornamental decoration and/or additional hardware. Thus, there is a need in the art for an improved mounting device for drapery hardware that enables a user to achieve multiple decorative goals.


SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a device for hanging curtain rods and/or other types of window dressing and/or hardware. In one embodiment, a device according to the present invention comprises: a mounting base, a post coupled to the mounting base, an adjustable sleeve designed to adjustably and operatively engage the post, and a front portion coupled to the adjustable sleeve. In another embodiment, a device according to the present invention comprises: a double L-shaped bracket and a front portion that is designed to be removably coupled to one end of the double L-shaped bracket. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a device as for hanging hardware (e.g. drapery hardware) as disclosed and discussed below.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION


FIG. 1 is an illustration of the installation of a curtain rod 100 in a side view. The rod 100 consists of a post, that is, a base post 104 and an adjustable sleeve 106 which is slidingly supported on the base post 104. The base post 104 is mounted on a wall plate 102 which can be mounted on a vertical wall (not shown) by way of screws 112 or any other suitable mounting means. FIG. 1A illustrates a perspective view of the mounting plate 102 having the mounting holes 110. Although plate 102 is shown as an oval shape but this shape is not to be construed in a limiting sense because many other shapes mat be used.


Turning now to the post 104 which can be permanently or removably mounted to the base plate 102. In the instant when the post 104 is permanently mounted to the base 102 such mounting can be accomplished by either a screw mount or by welding. In the case of the use a plastic material, the mounting can be accomplished by an adhesive. The post 104 can consist of material such as metal, ceramic or plastic. Also the crosswise section can be chosen either round, square or any other configuration.


Turning now to the adjustable hollow sleeve 106 in the form of a tube is which designed to slidingly but snugly fit over the base post 104. It should conform to the basic cross section of the base post 104. The adjustable sleeve can be arrested in any adjusted over the base post 104. Such arresting means can be a set screw 114 which would apply a lateral pressure onto the base post 104. The set screw 114 is preferred but many other arresting means may be used, such as a bolt penetrating through the sleeve 106 and the base post 104. However such bolt would inhibit a fine and precise adjustment. The adjustable sleeve 106, through its mounting means, should be adjusted and mounted in front and at the top of a window and parallel thereto.


Turning now to the front portion 108 which is designed to be removably attached to the adjustable sleeve 106 at the end thereof. In a further embodiment the front portion 108 can be adjusted in a desired position, that is, off-center from a first position. Suitable mounting means include, include but are not limited to, to a screw, bolt or snap-fit system. In one embodiment the snap-fit system can be seen as being composed of a male portion 116a and a female portion 116b.


In another embodiment, multiple halves of either the male portion or the female portion of a snap can be utilized so as to permit multiple different geographical placements or arrangements.


Regarding the material from which front portion 108 is formed any suitable material can be utilized. Such suitable materials include but are not limited to, metal (including any type of metal alloy), plastic, wood, ceramic or any combination thereof. Additionally, front portion 108 is not limited to ant geographical orientation or shape such as, a square, round, oval polygonal, triangular, elliptical, irregular. Star shaped etc. In another embodiment, front portion 108 can be designed to permit further decoration and/or customization by the end user, or can come already decorated and/or customized. In still another embodiment, front portion 108 can be formed from a material that can be stained, painted or have decoration glued and/or attached thereto.


Turning now to FIG. 2 which shows an illustration of a device in accordance with another embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 2 the device 200 is comprised of a double L-shaped bracket 202 having a forwardly extending front portion 204 which forms the L-shape 201. As can be seen from FIG. 2, the bracket 202 is designed to be mounted to a horizontal surface, such as a ceiling, for example. Suitable mounting means include, but not limited to, screws, bolts, nails rivets, glue. In the case where a mechanical means is utilized to attach bracket 202 to a desired horizontal surface, the number and/or placement of the mechanical mounting hardware is not limited to any on particular number or any particular orientation and/or physical arrangement.


In one non-limiting example, bracket 202 has therein two mounting holes 206 designed to receive suitably sized fasteners 212 for mounting purposes. However, the device 200 and the bracket 202 are not limited to this type or number of mounting hardware. Additionally, although bracket 202 is not limited to solely to this orientation, rather, any orientation whether symmetrical or non-symmetrical, can be used without limitation. Regarding the material from which bracket 202 is formed from any suitable material can be used. Such suitable materials include, but are not limited to, metal (including any type of metal alloy), plastic, ceramic, or any suitable combination thereof.


Turning now to front portion 204, it is designed to be removably, and operatively engaged with one end of bracket 202. In another embodiment, the front portion 204 can further include a mounting means that enable front portion 204 to be secured in a desired position to bracket 202. This would involve the lateral mounting means of a set screw 114 as is shown in FIG. 1. In another embodiment a snap or industrial strength snap, is utilized where such snap is composed of a male portion 210a and a female portion 210b. It should be noted that the placement of the male and female portions of the snap is not critical and thus not limited to any one specific placement and/or arrangement.


Regarding the material from which the front portion 204 is formed from, any suitable material can be utilized. Such suitable material include, but not limited to, metal, (including any type of metal alloy), plastic, ceramic, or any suitable combination thereof. Additionally, front portion 204 is not limited to any one particular geometrical orientation or shape. As with regard to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the portion 204 may include geometrical orientations and/or shape such as square, rectangular, oval polygonal, triangular, elliptical, irregular, star-shaped, etc. The front decoration 208 may take any the forms that were described with reference to the decorating item 106 shown in FIG. 1.


Although the invention has been described with reference to certain embodiments detailed therein, other embodiments can achieve the same or similar results. Variations and modifications of the invention will be obvious to those skilled in the art and the invention is intended to cover all such modifications and equivalents.

Claims
  • 1. A drapery hanging system consisting of an elongated support mounted at a window at its top and parallel thereto, said elongated support includes a tube having means for mounting the same adjacent said window, said tube having a hollow tube sliding thereon to adjust its length determined by said window, said hollow tube having means thereon to apply lateral pressure against said tube to arrest the same at a predetermined location.
  • 2. The drapery hanging system of claim 1, wherein said means for mounting includes a plate attached to an end of the tube, said plate including means for mounting said plate against a vertical wall.
  • 3. The drapery hanging system of claim 1, wherein said means for mounting includes an L-shaped bracket, means for mounting said L-shaped bracket against a ceiling.
  • 4. The drapery hanging system of claim 1, wherein said means to apply a lateral pressure is a set screw passing through said hollow tube.
  • 5. The drapery hanging system of claim 1, wherein a decoration item is attached to a free end of said hollow tube.
  • 6. The drapery hanging system of claim 5, wherein said decoration item has means thereon for geographically changing its position.
