Claims
- 1. A dryer-activated fabric softener product comprising a substrate and dryer-added fabric softener composition in a package in association with information comprising instructions for use of said product in an automatic tumble dryer to provide a fabric appearance benefit, wherein said composition has a dye fixative at a level from about 0.1% to about 50%, and said instructions disclose that the benefit can occur in the following wash cycle.
- 2. The product of claim 1 wherein said fabric appearance benefit is a color maintenance benefit.
- 3. The product of claim 1 wherein said fabric appearance benefit is a color restoration benefit.
- 4. The product of claim 1 wherein said fabric softener product comprises a chlorine scavenger and the instructions disclose that the benefit occurs in the subsequent wash cycle.
- 5. The product of claim 1 wherein said fabric softener product comprises a dye transfer inhibitor and the instructions disclose that the benefit occurs in the drying cycle and/or the subsequent wash cycle.
- 6. The product of claim 1 wherein said fabric softener product comprises a soil release agent and the instructions disclose that the benefit is a color benefit that occurs in the subsequent wash cycle.
- 7. A. dryer-activated fabric softener product comprising:
- A. substrate and
- B. dryer-added fabric softener composition having a peak melt temperature between about 40.degree. C. and about 75.degree. C.; the composition's fraction of enthalpy below about 40.degree. C. being less than about 40% as measured by DSC; the composition's dissolution rate in water being less than about 10%, and the composition comprises a dye fixative at a level from about 0.1% to about 50%,
- said product being packaged in association with instructions to use said product in an automatic dryer to provide a fabric appearance benefit.
- 8. The product of claim 7 wherein said benefit includes a color maintenance benefit.
- 9. The product of claim 7 wherein said benefit includes a color appearance restoration benefit.
- 10. The product of claim 7 wherein said substrate is a sheet; said composition is slippery when wet; and said composition's release rate is more than about 65%.
- 11. The product of claim 10, wherein said composition contains at least an effective amount of at least one additional color protecting ingredient selected from the group consisting of: chlorine scavenger, which provides protection from tap water in the subsequent wash process; dye transfer inhibitors which can provide some additional protection from fabrics that "bleed" fugitive dyes in the laundry process; chelant for metals that cause hue shifts in dyes; soil release polymer, which reduces the deposition and/or redeposition of visible soil to improve the overall fabric appearance; and mixtures thereof.
- 12. The product of claim 7 wherein said composition has a peak melt temperature between about 50.degree. C. and about 75.degree. C.; the composition's fraction of enthalpy below about 40.degree. C. is less than about 30% as measured by DSC; the composition's dissolution rate in water is less than about 5%; and the composition's release rate is more than about 75%.
- 13. The product of claim 12 wherein said composition contains, at least, as a color protecting ingredient, an effective amount of chlorine scavenger selected from the group consisting of:
- a. amines and their salts;
- b. ammonium salts;
- c. amino acids and their salts;
- d. polyamino acids and their salts;
- e. polyethyleneimines and their salts;
- f. polyamines and their salts;
- g. polyamineamides and their salts;
- h. polyacrylamides; and
- i. mixtures thereof.
- 14. The product of claim 12 wherein said composition contains from about 0.1% to about 50% by weight, as a color protecting ingredient, of an effective amount of dye transfer inhibitor.
- 15. The product of claim 14 wherein said dye transfer inhibitor is at a level of from about 0.1% to about 25% by weight of the composition and is water-soluble polymer containing nitrogen and oxygen atoms, selected from the group consisting of:
- (A) polymers with one or more monomeric units containing at least one .dbd.N--C(.dbd.O)-- group;
- (B) polymers with one or more monomeric units containing at least one N-oxide group;
- (C) polymers containing both .dbd.N--C(.dbd.O)-- and N-oxide groups of (A) and (B); and
- (D) mixtures thereof;
- wherein the nitrogen of the .dbd.N--C(.dbd.O)-- group can be bonded to either one or two other atoms.
- 16. The product of claim 15 wherein the level of said dye transfer inhibitor is from about 0.2% to about 20%.
- 17. The product of claim 16 wherein the level of said dye transfer inhibitor is from about 0.5% to about 15%.
- 18. The product of claim 17 wherein the level of said dye transfer inhibitor is from about 1% to about 10%.
- 19. A dryer-activated fabric softener product comprising:
- A substrate and
- B dryer-added fabric softener composition having a peak melt temperature between about 50.degree. C. and about 75.degree. C.; the composition's fraction of enthalpy below about 40.degree. C. is less than about 30% as measured by DSC; the composition's dissolution rate in water is less than about 5%; the composition's release rate is more than about 75%, and the composition comprises dye fixative at a level of from about 0.1% to about 50%.
