Claims
- 1. A dryer section in a paper or board machine including an arrangement for cutting at least one of a leader of a web and a diagonal tail portion of a web, the web having first and second opposed faces, comprising
- a plurality of cylinders, at least one of said cylinders being structured and arranged to support the web in a run along which said first face of the web is in contact with said at least one cylinder and said second face of the web is exposed,
- at least one drying wire for carrying the web through the dryer section, and
- water jet means arranged in opposed relationship to said second face of the web along said supported run of the web in which said first face of the web is in contact with said at least one cylinder and said second face of the web is exposed for directing a pressurized water jet at said second face of the web at a location along said supported run of the web to cut the web, said water jet having a pressure from about 40 bar to about 400 bar.
- 2. The dryersection of claim 1, wherein the pressure of the water jet is in a range from about 100 bar to about 350 bar.
- 3. The dryersection of claim 1, further comprising a pump to pressurize water and direct the pressurized water to said water jet means.
- 4. The arrangement of claim 1, further comprising a plate having nozzles through which an air jet is directed in a direction substantially parallel to a running direction of the web to stabilize the web, the water jet being directed at the web through an aperture in the plate.
- 5. The dryersection of claim 1, wherein said water jet means comprise a cutting nozzle, said cutting nozzle having a variable diameter depending on the type of web being cut.
- 6. The dryersection of claim 5, wherein the diameter of the cutting nozzle is from about 0.1 mm to about 1.5 mm.
- 7. The dryersection of claim 5, wherein the diameter of the cutting nozzle for use with Sc grades is from about 0.2 mm to about 0.25 mm.
- 8. The dryersection of claim 5, wherein the diameter of the cutting nozzle for use with fine paper is from about 0.3 mm to about 0.35 mm.
- 9. The dryersection of claim 5, wherein the diameter of the cutting nozzle for use with liner and heavy pulp webs is from about 0.4 mm to about 0.8 mm.
- 10. The dryer section of claim 1, further comprising guide means for separating said at least one drying wire from the web at a location about said at least one cylinder such that said supported run of the web about said at least one cylinder is situated after said at least one drying wire has separated from the web.
- 11. The dryer section of claim 1, wherein said at least one cylinder is a heated drying cylinder.
- 12. The dryer section of claim 1, wherein said cylinders comprise heated drying cylinders arranged in a first row and reversing suction cylinders arranged in a second row below said first row of drying cylinders, said at least one drying wire being arranged to guide the web between adjacent pairs of said drying cylinders over a respective one of said reversing suction cylinders.
- 13. The dryer section of claim 1, wherein said cylinders comprise heated drying cylinders arranged in first and second rows spaced from one another, said at least one drying wire comprising a first drying wire arranged to guide the web over said drying cylinders in said first row and a second drying wire arranged to guide the web over said drying cylinders in said second row.
- 14. The dryer section of claim 13, wherein said cylinders further comprise a guide roll arranged between each adjacent pair of said drying cylinders in said first row and between each adjacent pair of said drying cylinders in said second row.
- 15. A dryer section in a paper or board machine including an arrangement for cutting at least one of a leader of a web and a diagonal tail portion of a web, the web having first and second opposed faces, comprising
- a plurality of heated drying cylinders, one of said plurality of drying cylinders being structured and arranged to support the web in a run along which said first face of the web is in contact with said drying cylinder and said second face of the web is exposed,
- at least one drying wire for carrying the web through the dryer section and into contact with said plurality of drying cylinders, and
- water jet means arranged in opposed relationship to said second face of the web along said supported run of the web in which said first face of the web is in contact with said drying cylinder and said second face of the web is exposed for directing a pressurized water jet having a pressure from about 40 bar to about 400 bar at said second face of the web at a location along said supported run of the web to cut the web.
- 16. The dryer section of claim 15, further comprising a plate having nozzles through which an air jet is directed in a direction substantially parallel to a running direction of the web to stabilize the web, the water jet being directed at the web through an aperture in the plate.
- 17. The dryer section of claim 15, wherein said water jet means comprise a cutting nozzle, said cutting nozzle having a variable diameter depending on the type of web being cut.
- 18. The dryer section of claim 15, further comprising guide means for separating said at least one drying wire from the web at a location about said drying cylinder such that the supported run of the web about said drying cylinder is situated after said at least one drying wire has separated from the web.
- 19. The dryer section of claim 15, wherein said plurality of drying cylinders are arranged in a first row, further comprising reversing suction cylinders arranged in a second row below said first row of drying cylinders, said at least one drying wire being arranged to guide the web between adjacent pairs of said drying cylinders over a respective one of said reversing suction cylinders.
- 20. The dryer section of claim 15, wherein said plurality of drying cylinders are arranged in first and second rows spaced from one another, said at least one drying wire comprising a first drying wire arranged to guide the web over said drying cylinders in said first row and a second drying wire arranged to guide the web over said drying cylinders in said second row.
