Claims
- 1. A method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper, the method comprising the step of injecting a melted polymer material into a mold, wherein the mold defines a tongue scraper having a strip and having first and second edges, both a hard scraping surface and a soft scraping surface formed along at least one of the first and second edges; and wherein the hard scraping surface comprises a protrusion extending from a generally flat portion of said at least one of the first and second edges, said generally flat portion separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface.
- 2. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the protrusion defined by the mold comprises an orthogonal corner.
- 3. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the soft scraping surface defined by the mold comprises an obtuse corner.
- 4. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the soft scraping surface defined by the mold comprises a round corner.
- 5. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the generally flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance which is sufficient to permit scraping of the tongue with generally only a desired one of the hard scraping surface and the soft scraping surface.
- 6. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the generally flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance which is between approximately 0.010 inch and approximately 0.040 inch.
- 7. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 1, wherein the generally flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance of approximately 0.020 inch.
- 8. A method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper, the method comprising the step of injecting a polymer material into a mold, wherein the mold defines a tongue scraper having a strip and having first and second edges and on at least one of the first and second edges both a hard scraping surface and a soft scraping surface, and wherein a parting line of the mold is generally co-planar with a side of the tongue scraper such that flashing formed along the parting line defines a protrusion from at least one edge of the tongue scraper to define the hard scraping surface of the tongue scraper, and wherein the protrusion extends from a generally flat surface located on the edge which comprises both the hard scraping surface and the soft scraping surface.
- 9. The method for manufacturing a dual action tongue scraper as recited in claim 8, wherein the mold comprises first and second mold sections which have mating surfaces which are machined to a flatness of within approximately 0.001 inch and wherein polymer is injected into the mold at a pressure of approximately 15,000 psi.
- 10. A tongue scraper manufactured according to a method comprising the steps of:forming a mold having a cavity, the cavity defining a generally planar tongue scraper having a strip and having a first edge and a second edge and on each edge a hard scraping surface along one side of said edge and a soft scraping surface along the opposite side of said same edge, a first generally flat wall which spans from the first edge to the second edge on one side of the planar tongue scraper and a second generally flat wall which spans from the first edge to the second edge on the opposite side of the planar tongue scraper and wherein one of the first or second edge comprises a convex edge extending approximately the length of said edge; and injecting a melted polymer into the mold.
- 11. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the hard scraping surface defined by the mold comprises an orthogonal corner.
- 12. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the hard scraping surface defined by the mold comprises a protrusion extending from at least one of the first and second edges.
- 13. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the soft scraping surface defined by the mold comprises an obtuse corner.
- 14. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the soft scraping surface defined by the mold comprises a round corner.
- 15. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the mold defines a generally flat portion of one edge which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface by a distance which is sufficient to permit scraping of the tongue with generally only a desired one of the hard scraping surface and the soft scraping surface.
- 16. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the mold defines a generally flat portion of one edge which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface by a distance which is between approximately 0.010 inch and approximately 0.040 inch.
- 17. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the mold defines a generally flat portion of one edge which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface by a distance of approximately 0.020 inch.
- 18. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein a parting line of the mold is generally co-planar with a side of the tongue scraper such that flashing formed along the parting line defines a protrusion from at least one edge of the tongue scraper to define a hard scraping surface of the tongue scraper.
- 19. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the mold comprises first and second mold sections which have mating surfaces which are machined to a flatness of within approximately 0.001 inch and wherein polymer is injected into the mold at a pressure of approximately 15,000 psi.
- 20. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 10, wherein the cavity defines a tongue scraper having a central portion and two end portions, the cavity having a length of approximately 7.625 inches, a thickness of approximately 0.03 inch, a width where the central portion is defined of approximately 0.5 inch, a width where the end portions are defined of approximately 1 inch, and a width where each of the end portions attach to the central portion of approximately 0.375 inch.
- 21. A tongue scraper manufactured according to a method comprising the steps of:forming a mold having a strip and having two edges and both a hard scraping surface and a soft scraping surface on at least one of the two edges; and injecting a melted polymer into the mold, said mold having an orthogonal edge along a parting line such that flashing is formed along said orthogonal edge to thereby define the hard scraping surface, the flashing comprises a peak which rises from a generally flat portion on said same edge, said generally flat portion separates said soft scraping surface from said hard scraping surface.
- 22. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 21, wherein the hard scraping surface and the soft scraping surface is formed on both edges.
- 23. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 22, wherein the soft scraping surface comprises an obtuse corner.
- 24. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 22, wherein the soft scraping surface comprises a round corner.
- 25. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 22, wherein the flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance which is sufficient to permit scraping of the tongue with generally only a desired one of the hard scraping surface and the soft scraping surface.
- 26. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 22, wherein the generally flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance which is between approximately 0.010 inch and approximately 0.040 inch.
- 27. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 22, wherein the generally flat portion which separates the hard scraping surface from the soft scraping surface comprises a distance of approximately 0.020 inch.
- 28. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 21, wherein the mold comprises first and second mold sections, each mold section having a mating surface which is machined to a flatness of within approximately 0.001 inch and wherein polymer is injected into the mold at a pressure of approximately 15,000 psi.
- 29. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 21, further comprising a central portion and two end portions, the tongue scraper having a length of approximately 7.625 inches, a thickness of approximately 0.03 inch, a width of the central portion of approximately 0.5 inch, a width at each end portion of approximately 1 inch, and a width where each of the end portions attaches to the central portion of approximately 0.375 inch.
- 30. The tongue scraper as recited in claim 21, further comprising:opposed first and second generally planar end portions, the end portions each terminating distally in a generally elliptical arcuate edge and extending proximally to define a neck having first and second arcuate edges tapering to a predetermined width, the end portions each having a hole therethrough; and a generally planar central portion disposed symmetrically between and contiguous to the tapered neck of each end portion, the central portion defined longitudinally by a convexly arcuate first edge and a generally linear second edge.

This patent application is a divisional application of pending U.S. patent application No. 09/223,898, filed Dec. 31, 1998, entitled DUAL ACTION TONGUE SCRAPER, which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. patent application No. 08/917,245, filed Aug. 25, 1997, entitled TONGUE SCRAPER, now U.S. Pat. No. 5,868,769, the entire contents of both of which is hereby expressly incorporated by reference.
