BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a bed including a box spring having a top surface, a bottom surface, and a perimeter surface positioned from the bottom surface to the top surface. A mattress has an upper surface and a lower surface and the lower surface of the mattress is removably positionable on the top surface of the box spring. A dust ruffle includes a border being removably positionable between the top surface of a box spring and the lower surface of a mattress. A skirt is coupled to the border and is elongated for a height from the top surface of the box spring to the floor surface. A hem is coupled to the border and is capable of being weighted to anchor the border between the box spring and the mattress.

Another embodiment of the disclosure comprises a method including the steps of positioning a lower surface of a mattress upon a top surface of a box spring prior to inserting a hem of the dust ruffle into a space between the top surface of the box spring and the lower surface of the mattress until a border of the dust ruffle is entirely positioned between the mattress and the box spring.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new dust ruffle embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the dust ruffle bed system and method 10 generally comprises a bed 12 including a box spring 14 having a top surface 16, a bottom surface 18, and a perimeter surface 20 positioned from the bottom surface 18 to the top surface 16. A head board 22 may be coupled to the perimeter surface 20 of the box spring 14 to define a head 24 of the bed 12. A plurality of feet 26 is typically coupled to the head board 22 and the box spring 14. The feet 26 stand the box spring 14 and the head board 22 upon a floor surface 28. A mattress 30 has an upper surface 32 and a lower surface 34. The lower surface 34 of the mattress 30 is removably positionable on the top surface 16 of the box spring 14.

A dust ruffle 36 typically includes a border 38 being removably positionable between the top surface 16 of a box spring 14 and the lower surface 34 of a mattress 30. The border 38 includes a center section 40 and a pair of side sections 42. The center section 40 is positionable upon a foot 44 of the box spring 14 and the side sections 42 are positionable upon a respective one of a pair of side edges 46 of the box spring 14. The border 38 is normally not positioned on the head 24 of the bed 12. The border 38 has an interior perimeter edge 48 and an exterior perimeter edge 50, wherein the interior perimeter edge 48 is positionable facing a center 52 of the box spring 14 and the exterior perimeter edge 50 is positionable facing outwardly from the box spring 14. The border 38 has a length from the interior perimeter edge 48 to the exterior perimeter edge 50. The length of the border 38 is from 5 inches to 7 inches, and typically the length is 6 inches.

A skirt 54 is coupled to the border 38 and is elongated for a height from the top surface 16 of the box spring 14 to the floor surface 28. The height is from 12 inches to 16 inches, and typically the height is 14 inches. The skirt 54 will typically comprise a supple material such as microfiber, cotton, silk, or any other conventional material used for skirts 54. The skirt 54 conceals visibility of the box spring 14 to a person to enhance an appearance of the bed 12. The skirt 54 is typically decorated with designs, patterns, or any other decoration conventionally found on a dust ruffle 36. The skirt may be a pleated style, a tailored style, or a gathered style. The skirt 54 is coupled to the exterior perimeter edge 50 of the border 38. The skirt 54 has an outside surface 56 and an inside surface 58 and the inside surface 58 is abuttable with the perimeter surface 20 of the box spring 14.

A hem 60 is coupled to the border 38 and is capable of being weighted to anchor the border 38 between the box spring 14 and the mattress 30. The hem 60 may either comprise a dense material such as wool or another conventional fabric being weighted to facilitate retaining the border 38 between the mattress 30 and box spring 14, or a weighted member 62 may be coupled to the hem 60. The hem 60 may also comprise an adhesive material being securable between the mattress 30 and the box spring 14 by friction. The hem 60 will be positioned along the interior perimeter surface 20 of the border 38 and is hidden from visibility when in-use. A depth measured from the interior perimeter surface 20 to an end of the hem 60 is from 0.25 inches to 0.75 inches, and typically the depth will be 0.50 inches.

In use, the lower surface 34 of the mattress 30 is positioned upon the top surface 16 of the box spring 14. The hem 60 of the dust ruffle 36 is inserted into a space between the top surface 16 of the box spring 14 and the lower surface 34 of the mattress 30 until the border 38 of the dust ruffle 36 is entirely positioned between the mattress 30 and the box spring 14. A weight of the mattress 30 pressing down on the border 38 and the box spring 14 facilitates retaining the border 38 between the mattress 30 and the box spring 14. The hem 60 can be weighted to facilitate securing the border 38 between the mattress 30 and the box spring 14. To remove the dust ruffle 36 from the bed 12, the skirt 54 of the dust ruffle 36 may be pulled away from the bed 12 to pull the border 38 and the hem 60 from the bed 12 such that the mattress 30 is not lifted to remove the dust ruffle 36.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
