Claims
- 1. A dye-accelerant composition comprising:
an organic solvent; at least one dispersing agent; a chelating agent; and a vehicle.
- 2. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, comprising about 0.5 to 5% by weight of the organic solvent, about 10 to 20% by weight of the at least one dispersing agent, about 0.5 to 10% by weight of the chelating agent.
- 3. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, comprising about 0.5 to 2% by weight of the organic solvent, about 10 to 20% by weight of the at least one dispersing agent, about 0.5 to 5% by weight of the chelating agent, and about 50 to 99% by weight of a vehicle.
- 4. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, comprising about 1% by weight of the organic solvent, about 15% by weight of the at least one dispersing agent, about 3% by weight of the chelating agent, and about 80% by weight of a vehicle.
- 5. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the organic solvent is an organic compound having a low vapor pressure.
- 6. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the organic solvent is a lower alcohol.
- 7. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 6, wherein the lower alcohol is selected from the group consisting of: methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, and isobutanol.
- 8. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is one or more surfactants selected from the group of: noionic, anionic, cationic, ampholytic, and zwitterionic surfactants.
- 9. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is one or more surfactants selected from the group consisting of: nonionic and anionic surfactants.
- 10. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is a combination of both an anionic and nonionic surfactant.
- 11. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 10, wherein the composition comprises about 5 to 20% by weight of the nonionic surfactant and about 0.5 to 5% by weight of the anionic surfactant.
- 12. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 10, wherein the composition comprises about 10 to 15% by weight of the nonionic surfactant and about 0.5 to 2% by weight of the anionic surfactant.
- 13. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 10, wherein the composition comprises about 13% by weight of the nonionic surfactant and about 1% by weight of the anionic surfactant.
- 14. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is selected from the group consisting of: carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, alkyl aryl sulphonates, long-chain alcohol sulphates (primary and secondary alkyl sulphates), sodium sulphates, sodium alkyl sulphates, sodium aryl sulphates, sulphonated olefins, sulphated monoglycerides, sulphated ethers, sulphosuccinates, sulphonated methyl ethers, alkane sulphonates, phosphate esters, alkyl isethionates, acyl sarcosides, alkyl taurides, fluorosurfactants, fatty alcohol and alkyl phenol condensates, fatty acid condensates, condensates of ethylene oxide with an amide, condensates of ethylene oxide with an amide, block polymers (polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, ethylene diamine condensed with ethylene or propylene oxide), sucrose esters, sorbitan esters, alkylomides, ethoxylated amine polymers and mixtures thereof.
- 15. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is a combination of an alkyl phenol ethoxylate and a sodium alkyl sulphate.
- 16. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the dispersing agent is a combination of nonylphenolethoxylate and sodium naphtalene sulphate.
- 17. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the chelating agent is selected from the group consisting of: aminocarboxylic acids, hydroxyaminocarboxylic acids, hydroxycarboxylic acids, phosphates, di-phosphates, tri-phosphates, higher poly-phosphates, pyrophosphates, zeolites, polycarboxylic acids, carbohydrates (polysaccharides), hydroxypyridinones, organic compounds comprising catechol groups, organic compounds comprising hydroxymate groups, silicates or polyhydroxysulfonates.
- 18. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the chelating agent is selected from the group consisting of: EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid), DTPA (Diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid), NTA (nitrilo triacetic acid), HEDTA (hydroxyethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid), DEG/DHEG (dihydroxyethyl glycine), HEIDA (N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-iminodiacetat), gluconic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, oxalic acid, diglycolic acid, PBTC (phosphonobutantriacetat), ATMP (aminotri(methylenphosphonic acid), DTPMP (diethylene triaminpenta(methylenphosphonic acid), maleic acid, itaconic acid, mesaconic acid, fumaric acid, aconitic acid, and citraconic acid.
- 19. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the chelating agent is DTPA.
- 20. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the vehicle is water.
- 21. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 1, wherein the composition further comprises an electrolytic salt.
- 22. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 21, wherein the electrolytic salt is a combination of caustic soda and sodium bicarbonate.
- 23. A dye-accelerant composition comprising:
about 1% by weight of isopropyl alcohol; about 13% by weight of alkyl phenol ethoxylate; about 1% by weight of sodium alkyl sulphate; about 3% by weight of DTPA; and about 80% by weight of water.
- 24. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 23, wherein the composition further comprises an electrolytic salt.
- 25. The dye-accelerant composition as described in claim 24, wherein the electrolytic salt is a combination of caustic soda and sodium bicarbonate.
- 26. A process for dyeing fibers comprising:
impregnating a fiber with a dye-accelerant composition comprising:
an organic solvent, at least one dispersing agent, a chelating agent, and a vehicle; and then applying a dye.
- 27. The process as described in claim 26, wherein the dye-accelerant composition is provided in an aqueous solution at a concentration from about 1 to 10% by weight of the textile being treated.
- 28. The process as described in claim 26, wherein the dye is selected from the group consisting of: water-soluble dyes and fiber-reactive dyes.
- 29. The process as described in claim 26, wherein the fiber is a cellulosic fiber.
- 30. A process as described in claim 26, further comprising the pre-dyeing steps of:
soaking the fiber in hot water; soaking the fiber in a scouring agent to remove any particulate matter from the fiber; soaking the fiber in a hot water and soap bath; bleaching the fiber; and neutralizing the fiber.
- 31. The process as described in claim 26, further comprising the post-dyeing steps of:
washing the fiber to remove any particulates of dye from the fiber; fixing the dye; and washing the dye.
- 32. A process for dyeing fibers comprising:
impregnating a fiber with an aqueous dye-accelerant solution comprising:
about 1% by weight of isopropyl alcohol, about 13% by weight of alkyl phenol ethoxylate, about 1% by weight of sodium alkyl sulphate, about 3% by weight of DTPA, and about 80% by weight of water; and then applying a dye.
- 33. The process as described in claim 32, wherein the dye-accelerant composition is provided in an aqueous solution at a concentration from about 1 to 10% by weight of the textile being treated.
- 34. The process as described in claim 33, wherein the dye is selected from the group consisting of: water-soluble dyes and fiber-reactive dyes.
- 35. The process as described in claim 27, further comprising automatically maintaining the concentration of dye-accelerant.
- 36. A process as described in claim 35, wherein the step of automatically maintaining comprises:
measuring the concentration of dye-accelerant; and automatically adjusting the quantity of dye-accelerant.
- 37. The process as described in claim 36, wherein the step of measuring involves spectroscopically analyzing the concentration of dye-accelerant in solution.
