Claims
- 1. A computer system comprising:one or more servers, each server connected in a local area network (LAN) defining a LAN segment; a plurality of wireless interface devices adapted to interface with said LAN segment by way of a radio link, each wireless interface device including a display; a wireless LAN adapter in communication with said LAN segment for enabling radio communication between said server and said plurality of wireless interface devices, wherein said wireless interface devices include means for broadcasting a predetermined query signal to determine which servers are available for connection; means for determining a server with the least amount of load as a function of a number of wireless interface devices connected to the server; means for enabling said server determined to have the least amount of load to broadcast a signal to said wireless interface device with predetermined information; and means for displaying said predetermined information in a dialog box on said display in said wireless interface device.
- 2. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined information includes the server name.
- 3. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined information includes the server node address.
- 4. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined information includes the software version of said server.
- 5. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined information includes the server domain name.
- 6. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said predetermined information is stored in a buffer in said wireless interface device.
- 7. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein said displaying means only display said predetermined information of said server which supports said predetermined application.
- 8. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of processors.
- 9. The computer system as recited in claim 1, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of links between a source node and a destination node.
- 10. In a computer system including one or more LAN segments, each LAN segment including a server, a system for enabling wireless communication with said one or more LAN segments from one or more directions, the system comprising:an access point, said access point including a wireless LAN adapter coupled to said LAN segment for sending and receiving wireless communications to and from said LAN segment; one or more wireless interface devices, said wireless interface devices including a display; means for communicating with said access point; means for broadcasting a predetermined query signal to determine servers available for connection; means for determining a server with the least amount of load as a function of a number of wireless interface devices connected to the server; means for determining whether said server with least amount of load supports a predetermined application program of said wireless interface devices; and means for enabling said server determined to have the least amount of load to broadcast signals with predetermined information in response to said query signal from said wireless interface devices.
- 11. The system as recited in claim 10, including means for displaying in a dialog box at the wireless interface device the server with the least amount of load which supports the specified application.
- 12. The system as recited in claim 10, further including means for establishing a radio connection between said server and said wireless interface device.
- 13. The system as recited in claim 8, further including means for enabling said predetermined information to be displayed in a dialog box; andmeans for manually selecting said server in order to establish a radio connection between said server and said wireless interface device.
- 14. A computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein said predetermined information includes the server name.
- 15. A computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein said predetermined information includes the server node address.
- 16. A computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein said predetermined information includes the software version.
- 17. A computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein said predetermined information includes the server domain name.
- 18. A computer system as recited in claim 8, wherein said server signals are stored in a buffer in said wireless interface device.
- 19. The computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of processors.
- 20. The computer system as recited in claim 10, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of links between a source node and a destination node.
- 21. A plurality of servers, each server connected to a local area network (LAN) forming a LAN segment, said LAN segment including means for enabling wireless communication with said LAN segment, the servers comprising:means for communicating over a radio link; means for determining the server with the least amount of load as a function of a number of wireless interface devices connected to the server; and means for broadcasting predetermined information about said server with the least amount of load to a plurality of predetermined remote devices which do not have a server node address prior to the broadcasting.
- 22. A computer system as recited in claim 6, wherein said predetermined information includes the server name.
- 23. A computer system as recited in claim 16, wherein said predetermined information includes the server node address.
- 24. A computer system as recited in claim 16, wherein said predetermined information includes the software version.
- 25. A computer system as recited in claim 16, wherein said predetermined information includes the server domain name.
- 26. A computer system as recited in claim 16, wherein said server signals are stored in a buffer in said wireless interface device.
- 27. The computer system as recited in claim 21, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of processors.
- 28. The computer system as recited in claim 21, wherein the amount of load is further determined as a function of a number of links between a source node and a destination node.
- 29. A system, comprising:a plurality of servers; a local area network (LAN) connecting said servers; a wireless interface device capable of communicating with at least one of said servers by way of a radio link; means for determining which of said servers support said predetermining application program; means for selecting a server having a predetermining processing load from among those supporting said predetermined application program as a function of a number of wireless interface devices connected to the server; and means for broadcasting predetermining information about said server to said wireless interface device so as to establish a session between said server and said wireless interface device.
- 30. The system of claim 29, wherein said predetermined processing load is based on a number of hops and a number of login users.
- 31. The computer system as recited in claim 29, wherein the predetermining processing load is further based on a number of processors.
- 32. The computer system as recited in claim 29, wherein the predetermining processing load is further based on a number of links between a source node and a destination node.
