Claims
- 1. A dynamoelectric machine comprising:
- a stationary assembly including a stator having a pair of opposite end faces, a pair of opposite end frames formed of electrical conductive metallic material arranged in spaced relation with said opposite end faces of said stator, a bore through said stator between said opposite end faces thereof, winding means associated with said stator and adapted for excitation, a plurality of winding leads with connection free ends emanating from said winding means and extending from one of said opposite end faces of said stator toward one of said opposite end frames, respectively, a pair of bearing and lubrication systems associated with said opposite end frames, respectively, a pair of container means for said lubrication and bearing systems connected with said opposite end frames and extending toward said opposite end faces of said stator, respectively, and a first opening in said one opposite end frame;
- a rotatable assembly including a shaft rotatably received in said bearings of said bearing and lubrication systems, respectively, rotor means on said shaft for conjoint rotation therewith and arranged at least in part within said bore of said stator in magnetic coupling relation with said winding means said rotor means and shaft being rotatable from an at-rest position to a preselected rotational speed upon the excitation of said winding means, a centrifugal mechanism arranged on said shaft so as to be conjointly rotatable therewith and spaced between said rotor and one of said container means on said one opposite end frame, said centrifugal mechanism having a push collar with a force transmitting face extending generally radially with respect to said shaft, said push collar being generally axially movable with respect to said shaft from a protracted position with said force transmitting face spaced adjacent said one container means on said one opposite end frame toward a retracted position in response to the conjoint rotation of said rotor means and shaft from the at-rest position to the preselected rotational speed thereof, and resiliently urged means associated with said centrifugal mechanism and operable generally for exerting a force urging said push collar toward its protracted position;
- a switch and terminal assembly disposed between said one opposite end frame and said one opposite end face of said stator including a casing having a plurality of wall means defining chamber means within said casing, a second opening extending at least in part through said casing between a pair of opposite wall means thereof and isolated from said chamber means in said casing, means on said casing extending beyond one of said opposite wall means thereof for at least in part releasably mounting said casing to said one opposite end frame with said one opposite wall means being disposed at least adjacent thereto and with said second opening through said casing being at least generally aligned with said first opening through said one opposite end frame, a plurality of sets of terminals disposed in said casing along only a third one of said wall means of said casing interposed between said opposite wall means thereof, said terminals in one of said terminal sets having a pair of electrical connector sections of dissimilar configurations arranged generally in planar and angular relation and extending generally in row formation with each other exteriorly of said casing, one of said electrical connector sections in said one terminal set extending in the row formation thereof only beyond said third one wall means of said casing and the other of said electrical connector sections of said terminals in said one terminal set extending in the row formation thereof beyond both said third one wall means and the other of said opposite wall means of said casing, said terminals in another of said terminal sets having only another one electrical connector section with a configuration similar to that of said one electrical connector sections of said terminals in said one terminal set and arranged so as to extend in the row formation therewith only beyond said third one wall means of said casing, respectively, one of said terminals in said another terminal set comprising a ground terminal having strap means extending therefrom exteriorly of said casing in abutment between said one opposite wall means thereof and said one opposite end frame for ground connection engagement therewith and with said strap means being disposed at least in part about said first opening through said one opposite end frame and said second opening through said casing, at least one of said terminals in a third one of said terminal sets having only a third one electrical connector section with a configuration similar to that of said other electrical connector sections of said terminals in said one terminal set and arranged in the row formation therewith so as to extend beyond said third one wall means of said casing, respectively, said other connector sections of said terminals in said one terminal set and said third one electrical connector section of said at least one terminal of said third one terminal set being connected with said connection free ends of said winding leads, respectively, a plurality of supporting sections on some of said terminals in said terminal sets and extending interiorly of said casing from said third one wall means thereof into said chamber means, respectively, a pair of switch means movably secured to respective ones of said supporting sections within said chamber means and operable generally between switching positions for making with and breaking from at least other respective ones of said supporting sections, respectively, a pair of actuating arms pivotally movable in said casing and extending into said chamber means, respectively, a pair of means on said actuating arms for engagement with said switch means to effect the operation of said switch means between the switching positions thereof in response to the pivotal movement of said actuating arms, respectively, a pair of driving arms associated with said actuating arms so as to be conjointly pivotally movable therewith and extending exteriorly of said casing through a fourth one of said wall means of said casing generally opposite said third one wall means thereof with said driving arms being disposed on opposite sides of said shaft between said one container means on said one end opposite frame and said force transmitting face on said push collar of said centrifugal mechanism, and a pair of means on said driving arms engaged with said force transmitting face on said push collar for receiving therefrom the force exerted by said resiliently urged means on said push collar at least when said push collar is in the protracted position thereof, respectively, said driving arms and actuating arms being conjointly pivotally movable in response to the axial movement of said push collar from the protracted position toward the retracted position thereof against the force exerted by said resiliently urged means at least when said rotor and shaft attain the preselected rotational speed thereof so as to effect the respective operations of said switch means from one of the switching positions toward the other of the switching positions thereof; and
- means extending through said first opening in said one opposite end frame and at least in part into said second opening in said casing for ground connection engagement between said one opposite end frame and said strap means of said ground terminal and for at least in part assisting in the releasable mounting of said casing to said one opposite end frame with said strap means of said ground terminal being retained in abutment between said other opposite wall means of said casing and said one opposite end frame in the ground connection engagement therewith.
- 2. A dynamoelectric machine comprising:
- a stationary assembly including at least one end frame formed of an electrical conductive material, bearing means for association with said at least one end frame, and a core having winding means thereon adapted for excitation with a plurality of winding means leads extending toward said at least one end frame;
- a rotatable assembly associated in magnetic coupling relation with said winding means and in journaling relation with said bearing means, said rotatable assembly being rotatable from an at-rest position to a preselected rotational speed upon the excitation of said winding means;
- a centrifugal mechanism associated with said rotatable assembly so as to be conjointly rotatable therewith and including a push collar having a force transmitting surface and movable generally axially of said rotatable assembly between a protracted position and a retracted position, and resiliently urged means for exerting a force urging said push collar toward its protracted position at least when said rotatable assembly is in its at-rest position;
- a switch and terminal assembly mounted to said at least one end frame so as to be disposed generally between said at least one end frame and said winding means, said switch and terminal assembly including chamber means therewithin, a plurality of terminals arranged generally in row formation, some of said terminals having a pair of electrical connector sections, one of said electrical connector sections extending in a direction generally away from said at least one end frame toward said core and the other of said electrical connector sections being arranged in angular relation with respect to said one electrical connector sections, others of said terminals having only one electrical connector section similar to one of said one and other electrical connector sections on said some terminals, said winding being connected with said one electrical connector sections of said some terminals and said only one electrical connector section of at least one terminal of said other terminals similar to said one electrical connector sections of said some terminals, respectively, a plurality of supporting sections on preselected ones of said some terminals and said other terminals and extending into said chamber means, respectively, a pair of switch means in said chamber means associated with at least a pair of said supporting sections and operable generally for movement with respect thereto between a pair of switching modes, respectively, a pair of pivotally movable actuating means extending into said chamber for effecting the operation of said switch means between the switching modes thereof, respectively, and a pair of extension means on said actuating means extending exteriorly of said switch and terminal assembly into engagement with said push collar surface for receiving the force exerted on said push collar by said resiliently urged means, said extension means and said actuating being conjointly pivotally movable in response to the axial movement of said push collar from the protracted position to the retracted position thereof against the force exerted thereon by said resiliently urged means at least when said rotatable assembly attains its preselected rotational speed so as to effect the operation of said switch means from one of the switching modes toward another of the switching modes thereof, respectively.
- 3. A dynamoelectric machine comprising:
- a stationary assembly including at least one end frame formed of an electrical conductive material, bearing means for association with said at least one end frame, a core arranged in spaced apart relation with said at least one end frame, and winding means adapted for excitation disposed on said core and having a plurality of winding leads with connection free ends extending from said core toward said at least one end frame;
- a rotatable assembly associated in magnetic coupling relation with said wingin means and in journaling relation with said bearing means;
- a switch and terminal assembly including a casing having a plurality of wall means for defining a switch means accommodating chamber therein, said casing being disposed between said at least one end frame and said core with one of said wall means of said casing being arranged at least adjacent said at least one end frame, a plurality of terminals arranged generally in row formation along only another of said wall means of said casing generally adjacent said one wall means thereof, some of said terminals having a pair of electrical connector sections, one of said electrical connector sections extending in a direction from said casing generally toward said core and the other of said electrical connector sections being arranged in angular relation with respect to said one electrical connector sections, others of said terminals having only one electrical connector section similar to one of said one and other electrical connector sections on said some terminals, said connection free ends of said winding leads being connected with said one electrical connector sections of said some terminals and at least one of said only one electrical connector section of said other terminals similar to said one electrical connector section of said some terminals, respectively, and one of said other terminals having strap means connected with said other electrical connector section thereof and extending at least in part at least adjacent said one wall means of said casing for grounding relation with said at least one end frame; and
- means associated with at least said strap means and said at least one end frame for at least in part mounting said casing to said at least one end frame and for insuring the grounding relation between said strap means and said at least one end frame.
- 4. A dynamoelectric machine adapted for energization across a power source comprising:
- a stationary assembly including a core having winding means adapted for excitation upon the energization of the dynamoelectric machine and with a plurality of winding means leads extending from said core toward a structural component of said stationary assembly;
- a rotatable assembly rotatable with respect to said stationary assembly and arranged in magnetic coupling relation with said winding means, said rotatable assembly being rotatable at least from an at-rest position to a preselected rotational speed upon the excitation of said winding means;
- a switch and terminal assembly mounted to said structural component of said stationary assembly, said switch and terminal assembly including a switch means accommodating chamber therewithin, a plurality of terminals having at least one electrical connector section extending exteriorly of said switch and terminal assembly, respectively, said winding means leads being connected with said at least one electrical connector section of some of said terminals, respectively, a set of said some terminals and others of said terminals comprising switch terminals, two of said switch terminals supporting switch means operable generally between a pair of switching positions for making with and breaking from other switch means supported on at least another two of said switch terminals within said switch means accommodating chamber, respectively, and a pair of means pivotally movable in said switch and terminal assembly for controlling the operation of said switch means between the switching positions thereof and including a pair of extension means conjointly pivotally movable with said controlling means and extending exteriorly of said switch and terminal assembly generally adjacent radially opposite sides of said rotatable assembly between said core and said structural component, respectively; and
- means conjointly rotatable with said rotatable assembly and operable generally at least as said rotatable assembly attains its preselected rotational speed for effecting the conjoint pivotal movement of said extension means and said controlling means and the operation thereby of said switch means from one of the switching positions to the other of the switching positions, respectively.
- 5. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 4 further comprising means for association in ground circuit relation between another of said terminals and said structural component.
- 6. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 26 wherein said switch and terminal assembly further includes a casing mounted to said structural component and having a plurality of wall means for defining said switch means accommodating chamber, one of said wall means being disposed at least adjacent said structural component, and said terminal means being arranged generally in row formation along another of said wall means adjacent said one wall means.
- 7. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 6 wherein another one of said other terminals includes means disposed at least in part between said one wall means and said at least one end frame for connection in ground circuit relation with said at least one end frame.
- 8. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 6 wherein said at least one electrical connector section on said some terminals extend in a direction generally away from said at least one end frame beyond a third one of said wall means adjacent said another wall means and generally opposite said one wall means.
- 9. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 8 wherein said at least one electrical connector section of said other terminals are angularly arranged with respect to said at least one electrical connector section on said some terminals.
- 10. A dynamoelectric machine adapted to be energized across a power source comprising:
- a stationary assembly including at least a core having winding means for excitation upon the energization of the dynamoelectric machine;
- a rotatable assembly arranged in magnetic coupling relation with said winding means and rotatable relative to said stationary assembly in response to the excitation of said winding means;
- a switch and terminal assembly mounted to said stationary assembly and including a switch means accommodating chamber, a plurality of terminals each having at least one electrical connector section with said at least one electrical connector section on some of said terminals being connected in circuit relation with said winding means, a set of switch means supported in said switch means accommodating chamber on respective ones of said some terminals and others of said terminals and operable generally for switching between a set of switching modes, respectively and a plurality of means mounted to said switch and terminal assembly so as to be pivotally movable for controlling the operation of said switch means respectively; and
- means rotatable with said rotatable assembly for effecting the pivotal movement of said controlling means.
- 11. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 further comprising connection means for association in ground circuit relation between said at least one electrical connector section of another one of said other terminals and said stationary assembly.
- 12. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 11 wherein said stationary assembly further includes at least one end frame, said switch and terminal assembly being mounted to said at least one end frame and said connection means being associated in the grounding relation with said at least one end frame.
- 13. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 wherein said switch and terminal assembly further includes a casing mounted to said stationary assembly and having a plurality of wall means for defining said switch means accommodating chamber, said terminal means being arranged generally in row formation along one of said wall means.
- 14. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 13 wherein said at least one electrical connector section of said some terminals extend beyond another of said wall means adjacent said one wall means generally in a direction toward said core, and said at least one electrical connector section on at least said respective one of said other terminals being angularly arranged with respect to said at least one electrical connector section on said some terminals.
- 15. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 13 wherein said stationary assembly further includes at least one end frame said casing being mounted to said at least one end frame, and another of said wall means adjacent said one wall means being disposed at least adjacent said at least one end frame.
- 16. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 15 wherein another one of said other terminals includes means disposed at least in part between said another wall means and said at least one end frame for connection in ground circuit relation with said at least one end frame.
- 17. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 wherein said controlling means comprise a set of arm means pivotally mounted to said switch and terminal assembly for controlling the operation of said switch means, respectively, and each arm means including extension means extending exteriorly of said switch and terminal assembly for driven engagement with said pivotal movement effecting means.
- 18. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 wherein said pivotal movement effecting means includes means operable at least generally as said rotatable assembly attains a preselected rotational speed for driving engagement with said controlling means to effect the pivotal movement thereof.
- 19. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 wherein said switch and terminal assembly further includes interior wall means within said switch means accommodating chamber for isolating said switch means from each other.
- 20. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 10 wherein said stationary assembly further includes at least one end frame, said switch and terminal assembly further including a set of means for rotatably securing said switch and terminal assembly to said at least one end frame, connection means for association in ground circuit relation between said at least one electrical connector section of another one of said other terminals and said stationary assembly, and means connected with at least said at least one end frame and said connection means for ensuring the ground circuit relation.
- 21. The dynamoelectric machine as set forth in claim 20 wherein said connection means extends at least in part between said at least one end frame and said switch and terminal assembly and includes a first opening, and wherein said switch and terminal assembly further includes a threaded opening arranged at least in part in alignment with said opening first to threadably receive said ensuring means with the threaded reception of said ensuring means in said threaded opening at least assisting in the releasable securement of said switch and terminal assembly to said at least one end frame, and said ensuring means engaging said connection means about said first opening to effect the ground circuit relation between said at least one end frame and said another one of said other terminals.
