The disclosure relates to earrings and more particularly pertains to a new earring for selectively displaying an attachment.
The prior art discloses myriad earrings but doesn't describe such an earring which includes a base and an attachment which selectively couples to the base such that a periphery of the attachment aligns with a perimeter edge of the base.
An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a base has a front side, a rear side, and a perimeter edge. The perimeter edge extends from the front side to the rear side. An attachment is releasably couplable to the front side of the base in a use position. A periphery of the attachment is aligned with the perimeter edge of the base when the attachment is positioned in the use position. A hook is coupled to the top end of the base and has a thickness such that the hook is configured for inserting through a piercing hole in a body part of a user.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
As best illustrated in
An attachment 26 is releasably couplable to the front side 14 of the base 12 in a use position 28. A periphery 30 of the attachment 26 is aligned with the perimeter edge 18 of the base 12 when the attachment 26 is positioned in the use position 28. The attachment 26 comprises a ferromagnetic material such that the attachment 26 is magnetically adhered to the base 12 when positioned in the use position 28. A thickness of the attachment 26 is uniform and is less than a thickness of the base 12. Some embodiments include multiple attachments 26 which are interchangeably couplable to the front side 14 of the base 12 in the use position 28. The attachment 26 may have a decorative appearance, including, for example, a single color, a pattern, a graphical image, or the like.
A hook 32 is coupled to the top end 22 of the base 12 and has a thickness such that the hook 32 is configured for inserting through a piercing hole 46 in a body part 44 of a user 42. The body part 44 may typically be defined by an earlobe, but may be any part of the body of the user 42 sufficient for piercing to support jewelry. A connector 36 is coupled to the hook 32 and the base 12. The connector 36 comprises a first closed loop 38 and a second closed loop 40. The first closed loop 38 and the second closed loop 40 are interlocked. The first closed loop 38 is integrally formed with the hook 32, and the second closed loop 40 is integrally formed with the base 12. The connector 36 also may include a clasp, a threaded fastener, a magnetic fastener, or the like. In some embodiments, the hook 32 may be integrally formed with the base 12. A collar may be included which is positionable around the hook 32 near a free end 34 of the hook 32 to retain the hook 32 in the piercing hole 46.
In use, the hook 32 is inserted into the piercing hole 46 to hang the base 12 from the body part 44 of the user 42. The attachment 26 may be alternately positioned in and removed from the use position 28. In embodiments with multiple attachments 26, the attachments 26 may be interchangeably placed in the use position 28. A selected one of the multiple attachments 26 may be chosen as desired by the user 42 such as to match or coordinate with the user's 42 clothing.
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
