Claims
- 1. A centrifuge comprising:
a rotor; a shaft; a housing containing therein said rotor and said shaft; a cover disposed about one end of said housing, wherein said rotor is disposed between said cover and said shaft; and, a coupling assembly which secures both said cover to said rotor and said rotor to said shaft.
- 2. The centrifuge assembly according to claim 1, wherein said coupling assembly comprises a bayonet screw.
- 3. A centrifuge as in claim 2, wherein said bayonet screw further comprises a angled slot.
- 4. A centrifuge as in claim 2, wherein said bayonet screw further comprises an axial slot.
- 5. A centrifuge as in claim 1, wherein said coupling assembly transfers torque.
- 6. A centrifuge comprising:
a motor shaft; a rotor; a rotor body adapter housing that removably engages said rotor; a rotor hold down shaft; a coupling assembly; and a cover having a knob; wherein said coupling assembly secures said cover to said rotor and secures said rotor to said motor shaft.
- 7. The centrifuge according to claim 6, wherein said knob further comprises a channel that extends from said top surface to a bottom of said knob and wherein said channel has an indicator disposed therein.
- 8. The centrifuge according to claim 7, wherein said indicator is in a first position relative to said top surface when said rotor is secured to said motor shaft.
- 9. The centrifuge according to claim 8, wherein said indicator is in a second position relative to said top surface when said rotor is released from said motor shaft.
- 10. A centrifuge as in claim 6, wherein said coupling assembly also transfers torque from said outer housing to said rotor hold down shaft.
- 11. A centrifuge comprising:
a motor shaft; a rotor that engages said motor shaft; a coupling assembly; and a cover, said cover having a knob with a top surface, and an indicator disposed within said knob, wherein said knob has a knob pin contained therein, that engages said coupling assembly, said knob pin secures said cover to said rotor, and wherein said indicator is flush with said top surface of said knob when said rotor is secured to said motor shaft via said coupling assembly and wherein said indicator projects above said top surface of said knob when said rotor is released from said motor shaft.
- 12. An attachment and release apparatus for use with a centrifuge having a rotor and a motor shaft, comprising:
a knob having a passage therethrough; a cover disposed around said knob; an indicator pin slidably disposed within said passage of said knob, said indicator pin having a first end and a second end and an axial slot within said knob; a knob pin disposed within said axial slot; an adapter removably connected the to the rotor; a housing with a second axial slot that includes a coupling assembly for coupling said cover to the rotor and for coupling the rotor to the motor shaft; a shaft having a first end and a second end slidably disposed within said adapter, wherein said shaft has a hole located at said first end; a shaft pin disposed within said hole of said shaft and disposed within said housing slot; a first biasing element disposed within said passage of said knob; and a second biasing element disposed within said housing.
- 13. The attachment and release apparatus according to claim 12, wherein said coupling assembly comprises a bayonet screw.
- 14. The attachment and release apparatus according claim 13, wherein said bayonet screw further comprises an angled slot.
- 15. The attachment and release apparatus according claim 13, wherein said bayonet screw further comprises an axial slot.
- 16. The attachment and release apparatus according to claim 12, wherein said first end of said shaft is a flange and engages said second end of said indicator.
- 17. The attachment and release apparatus according to claim 16, wherein said second biasing element extends between said adapter and said flange and wherein said second biasing element is a spring.
- 18. The attachment and release apparatus according to claim 12, wherein said first biasing element is a spring.
- 19. A method for attaching and releasing a rotor to a motor shaft and attaching and releasing a rotor cover to the rotor, comprising:
attaching the rotor to the motor shaft; attaching the rotor cover to the rotor, wherein the rotor cover includes a knob connected thereto; rotating the knob in a first direction, wherein said step of rotating attaches the rotor body to the motor shaft and attaches the rotor cover to the rotor body via coupling assembly which secures both the cover to the rotor and the rotor to the rotor shaft.
- 20. The method according to claim 19, further comprising pushing the knob downward towards the rotor, detaching the rotor cover from the rotor.
- 21. The method according to claim 19, further comprising rotating the knob in a second, opposite direction, detaching the rotor from the motor shaft.
- 22. A centrifuge comprising:
a motor shaft; a rotor; a rotor hold down shaft for engaging said motor shaft; a rotor body drive adapter housing wherein said rotor hold down shaft slidably engages said rotor body drive adapter housing; and a cover having a knob with a top surface, a knob pin and an indicator disposed within said knob, wherein said knob pin connects said cover to said rotor and wherein said indicator is in a first position relative to said top surface when said rotor is secured to the motor shaft and wherein said indicator is in a second position relative to said top surface when said rotor is released from said motor shaft.
- 23. A centrifuge as in claim 22, wherein said knob pin transfers torque from said knob to said outer housing.
- 24. A centrifuge as in claim 22, wherein said shaft pin transfers torque from said outer housing to said rotor hold down shaft.
- 25. A centrifuge as in claim 22, wherein said outer housing further includes spring disposed between said shaft pin and said rotor body drive adapter for preloading said rotor to said motor.
- 26. A centrifuge comprising:
a motor shaft; a rotor that engages said motor shaft; and a cover having a knob with a top surface and an indicator disposed within said knob, wherein said indicator is in a first position relative to said top surface when said rotor is secured to said motor shaft, and wherein said indicator is in a second position relative to said top surface when said rotor is released from said motor shaft.
- 27. The centrifuge according to claim 26, wherein said knob comprises a channel extending from said top surface to a bottom of said knob, and wherein said indicator comprises and an elongated member disposed within said channel.
- 28. The centrifuge according to claim 26, where said indicator is flush with said top surface when in said first position.
- 29. The centrifuge according to claim 26, where said indicator projects above said top surface when in said second position.
- 30. An attachment and release apparatus for use with a centrifuge having a rotor and a motor shaft, comprising:
a means for attaching the rotor to the motor shaft and for attaching a rotor cover to the rotor; and a means for rotating said means for attaching, wherein said means for rotating is connected to the cover.
