Claims
- 1. Eccentric work piece holder adaptable to rotary unit, said rotary unit having a rotary axis for rotating a work piece during operations, said eccentric work piece holder comprising:
a first aligning member fixedly mounted on said rotary axis of said rotary unit; a second aligning member mounted for substantially X-directional pivotal movements along said rotary axis, said second aligning member being arranged adjacent to said first aligning member; a third aligning member having a bore opening for holding said work piece, said third aligning member being mounted for substantially Y-directional pivotal movement along said rotary axis, and wherein said third aligning member being arranged nearest adjacent to said second aligning member; whereby rotary movement of said first, second and third aligning members along said rotary axis causes said work piece secured in said third aligning member to align relative to said rotary axis in response to pivotable movements of said second aligning member in said substantially X direction and pivotable movements of said third aligning member in said substantially Y direction, thereby compensating for work piece runout in said X and Y directions.
- 2. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 1 wherein said first aligning member, said second aligning member, and said third aligning member are each substantially circular shaped.
- 3. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 1 wherein a first journal opening is provided in said second aligning member and a first tapped aperture is provided in said first aligning member such that a first journal passing therebetween enables pivotable movements of said second aligning member.
- 4. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 1 wherein a second journal opening is provided in said third aligning member and a second tapped aperture is provided in said second aligning member such that a second journal passing therebetween enables pivotable movements of said third aligning member.
- 5. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 1 wherein a plurality of fastening members associated with said third aligning member engages said work piece in said bore opening.
- 6. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 5 wherein said plurality of fastening members comprises set screws.
- 7. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 1 wherein means are provided in both said second aligning member and said third aligning member for securing said work piece in a fixed position once aligned relative to said rotary axis.
- 8. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 7 wherein said means for securing said work piece includes a first plurality of fasteners associated with said second aligning member for securely fastening said second aligning member to said first aligning member, and wherein a second plurality of fasteners associated with said third aligning member for securely fastening said third aligning member to said second aligning member.
- 9. The eccentric work piece holder recited in claim 8 wherein said first plurality of fasteners and said second plurality of fasteners are screws passing through a first journal opening and a second journal opening, respectively.
- 10. The eccentric holder recited in claim 1 wherein said bore opening is centered in said third aligning member.
- 11. A method of making an eccentric work piece holder, comprising the steps of:
providing a plurality of associated aligning members, one of said plurality of aligning members providing means for holding a work piece; providing means for enabling each one of said plurality of associated aligning members to pivot along a rotary axis in one direction in response to a corresponding directional runout of said work piece; and, providing means for fixedly adjusting the position of said work piece relative to said rotary axis.
