Claims
- 1. An edge card connector for connecting a second module to a first module wherein said second module has a plurality of contact pads disposed proximate to an edge thereof, comprising:
- a connector portion attachable to said first module, said connector portion including an insulative housing having a top end in which a channel is formed and a bottom end adjacent to said first module and a window positioned between said top and bottom ends;
- a plurality of electrical contacts disposed in said insulative housing for interconnection with said plurality of contact pads, and
- a unitary spring having a portion disposed in said window opposite said plurality of electrical contacts wherein a portion of said unitary spring is exposed from a side of said housing;
- wherein, said channel is configured to receive a portion of said second module which is biased toward said plurality of electrical contacts by said unitary spring.
- 2. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said unitary spring is a stamped metallic spring.
- 3. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said unitary spring is formed of a resilient polymeric material.
- 4. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said unitary spring includes a pair of support arms each engaging a portion of said insulative housing and maintaining said unitary spring therein.
- 5. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said unitary spring includes at least one cut-out enhancing springiness of said unitary spring.
- 6. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said insulative housing includes a wall limiting travel of said second module as said second module is biased toward said plurality of electrical contacts by said unitary spring.
- 7. The edge card connector of claim 1 wherein said insulative housing includes [at least one window configured to receive said at least one ramp surface, and said unitary spring includes at least one support arm which rides along said at least one ramp surface as said unitary spring is installed in said window.
