Claims
- 1. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures and memory, wherein the memory comprises information about the positions of at least one of:
(i) non-redundant microchannel structures or redundant microchannel structures and; (ii) approved or disapproved microchannel structures.
- 2. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the information prevents the usage of the disapproved or redundant microchannel structures.
- 3. The microfluidic device of claim 1 further comprising a memory having information relating to positions for interfacing the microchannel structures with the macroworld.
- 4. The microfluidic device of claim 2, wherein the information is basic position information that is common to devices comprising essentially the same arrangement of microchannel structures or other position information that reflects variations between these devices.
- 5. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the information is protected from being changed by unauthorized individuals by the memory being a read-only-memory or providing a restricted access to make the changes.
- 6. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the memory comprises user-related information selected from the group consisting of recommended shelf-life for the device, and a space for storing information about different process steps that have been performed within the device or within the microchannel structures.
- 7. The microfluidic device of claim 6, wherein the memory is writeable permitting blocking of the device upon expiration of the recommended shelf life of the device or upon usage of the microchannel structures.
- 8. The microfluidic device of claim 7, wherein said blocking is performed by a dedicated instrument or software.
- 9. The microfluidic device of claim 7, wherein unblocking is not allowed by unauthorized individuals.
- 10. The microfluidic device of claim 1 further comprising memory having supplemental information relating to process protocols that are allowed for the microchannel structures.
- 11. The microfluidic device of claim 10, wherein the supplemental information is transferable by a dedicated system to a selected process protocol that is carried out in the device.
- 12. The microfluidic device of claim 11, wherein said process protocol is stored in another part of the system.
- 13. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the device is made in plastics.
- 14. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the device is circular and that each microchannel structure comprises a substructure with an upstream part at an inner position and a downstream part at an outer position, said positions being relative to the axis of symmetry.
- 15. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the memory is a transponder.
- 16. The microfluidic device of claim 1, wherein the memory covers an annular zone of the device with a center coinciding with the center of the device.
- 17. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures having a redundancy that is ≦50% and information that gives the position of redundant or non-redundant microchannel structures.
- 18. The microfluidic device of claim 17, wherein the information is placed in a memory on the device.
- 19. The microfluidic device of claim 17, wherein the information is separate from the device.
- 20. The microfluidic device of clam 17, wherein the number of disapproved microchannel structures is ≦ the number of redundant microchannel structures.
- 21. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures and a memory, wherein the memory is writeable with a restriction for unauthorized use.
- 22. The microfluidic device of claim 21, wherein the memory is accessible and writeable for a system in which the microfluidic device can be used or processed.
- 23. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures and memory, wherein the memory comprises information relating to positions for interfacing the microchannel structures with the macroworld.
- 24. The microfluidic device of claim 23, wherein the information is basic position information that is common to devices comprising essentially the same arrangement of microchannel structures or other position information that reflects variations between these devices.
- 25. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures and memory, wherein the memory further comprises supplemental information relating to process protocols that are allowed for the microchannel structures.
- 26. A microfluidic device comprising a plurality of microchannel structures and memory, wherein the memory comprises at least one of:
(a) information about the positions of at least one of:
(i) non-redundant microchannel structures or redundant microchannel structures; and (ii) approved or disapproved microchannel structures; (b) information relating to positions for interfacing the microchannel structures with the macroworld; and (c) supplemental information relating to process protocols that are allowed for the microchannel structures.
