Claims
- 1. In an adapter for converting an at least partially automatic firearm having a firearm chamber to use different size ammunitions, the adapter having a barrel insert for extending into the firearm chamber and for receiving ammunition, and a bolt, the improvement comprising:
- cartridge keeper means located on the bolt for applying pressure to the rim of the case of ammunition positioned in the barrel insert, said cartridge keeper means being made of thin resilient spring material; and
- mounting means for mounting said cartridge keeper means on the bolt, said mounting means including an inverted U-shaped portion integrally formed of the same material with said cartridge keeper means and having a first and a second leg, the top of the inverted U-shaped portion of said mounting means extending along the top of the bolt and the first leg of the U-shaped portion which integrally connects with said cartridge keeper means extending alongside of the bolt, both the top and the first leg being exposed to the exterior of the bolt along their full length, said cartridge keeper means extending forwardly of said first leg.
- 2. The improvement of claim 1 wherein the second leg of said U-shaped portion extends down the bolt at an opening at the top of the bolt and bears in compression against the side of the opening closest to said first leg, the two legs bearing in toward each other, the compressive action of said legs serving to hold said cartridge keeper means onto the bolt by itself.
- 3. The improvement of claim 2 wherein said second leg is shorter than said first leg, and wherein said opening is a small hole in the top of the bolt.
- 4. In an adapter for converting an at least partially automatic firearm to use different size ammunition, said firearm having a firearm chamber, a firing mechanism and a housing for containing the firing mechanism of said firearm, the adapter having a barrel insert for being positioned in the breech end of the firearm chamber and a fixed receiver connected to said barrel insert for being positioned behind the barrel insert with respect to the chamber, and the firearm having a cartridge ejector slot at one side of the housing, the improvement comprising:
- a single side rail connected to the barrel insert and to the receiver on the external sides of the barrel insert and the receiver located away from the cartridge ejector slot, said single side rail being located with its outward side exposed to the exterior of the adapter and being a fixed connection between the receiver and the barrel insert with respect to their longitudinal separation, said side rail being separable from the receiver and the barrel insert, the barrel insert being loosely pinned to said rail allowing pivotal movement of the barrel insert about the longitudinal axis of the adapter.
- 5. The improvement of claim 4 wherein said side rail is a flat bar.
