Claims
- 1. An electric heater assembly for a thermal actuator or the like having a substantially sealed chamber at least partially defined in a casing and thermally expansible material in said chamber, comprising an electrically conductive holder positionable in an opening through said casing and securable in sealed engagement with said casing, said holder having a generally central opening and an integral upstanding tab positioned to extend toward the interior of said chamber, an electrically conductive stud extending through said central opening, electrically non-conductive means for sealing said central opening with said stud securely positioned therein in electrically isolated relation with respect to said holder, and electric heater means for heating said material, said electric heater means being coupled to said tab and to said stud for mechanical support thereby and for electric energization thereof.
- 2. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 1, wherein said holder has a generally circular flat land portion and a hollow cylindrical portion, the latter bounding said central opening, said flat land portion being positionable substantially in abutment with a wall portion of said casing surrounding said opening.
- 3. A electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 2, wherein said electrically non-conductive means substantially completely fills said hollow cylindrical portion.
- 4. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 2, said electrically conductive holder further comprising a plurality of fingers extending radially outwardly from said circular flat land portion for added contact area between said holder and said casing.
- 5. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 1, wherein said electrically non-conductive means comprises fused glass.
- 6. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 1, further comprising sealant means for sealing said holder in said base opening.
- 7. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 1, wherein said electric heater means comprises a coiled electric resistance heater, the inner end of said coiled electric resistance heater being attached to said stub and the outer end of said electric resistance heater being attached to said tab.
- 8. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 1, wherein said thermally expansible material comprises a liquid, and said electric heater means being positioned on said tab and said stud for support in said chamber submerged in said liquid when the thermal actuator is de-energized.
- 9. An electric heater assembly as set forth in claim 7, wherein said liquid is electrically non-conductive and at least a portion of said casing in engagement with said electrically conductive holder is electrically connected to the latter.
