Electrical connector assembly with pick up cap

Abstract

An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector, a pick up cap (13) and at least one aligning key (14). The electrical connector has a base surrounded by spaced rigid walls (112) so as to form a receiving cavity (111) adapted to receive an IC package. The at least one aligning key is attached to the base, and has at least a part thereof configured to laterally invade the receiving cavity. The pick up cap is assembled onto the electrical connector, and has a receptacle (1321) defined thereon for receiving the at least one aligning key. Since the pick up cap forms the receptacle adapted for receiving the aligning keys, the pick up cap can be assembled onto the electrical connector, and securely held in position by the engagement of the receptacle of the pick up cap and the aligning key of the electrical connector.

Claims

1. An electrical connector assembly comprising: an electrical connector having a base surrounded by rigid walls so as to form a receiving cavity adapted to receive an IC package;at least one aligning key attached to the base, said at least one aligning key having at least a part thereof configured to laterally invade the receiving cavity; anda pick up cap assembled onto the electrical connector, the pick up cap defining a receptacle for receiving said at least one aligning key.

2. The electrical connector assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein the receptacle is in a form of a through hole.

3. The electrical connector assembly as recited in claim 2, wherein said at least one aligning key is configured to have a predetermined height so as to penetrate through the through hole of the pick up cap.

4. The electrical connector assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein said at least one aligning key is detachably attached to the base.

5. The electrical connector assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein the pick up cap defines side edges for engaging with the rigid walls of the electrical, connector.

6. An electrical connector assembly comprising: an electrical connector having a base a plurality of walls so as to form a receiving cavity adapted to receive an IC package;at least one aligning key extending upwardly from the base, said at least one aligning key having at least a part thereof configured to occupy a portion of the receiving cavity; anda pick up cap assembled onto the electrical connector, the pick up cap defining a recess for receiving said at least one aligning key.

7. The electrical assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein the aligning key extends through the recess and beyond an upper face of the pick up cap.

8. The electrical assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein said aligning key is located at a corner of the base.

9. The electrical assembly as claimed in claim 6, wherein said aligning key is discrete from the base with different material relative to the base.
