Claims
- 1. A resistor element comprising:
- a formed insulating substrate member, a resistance layer and a termination layer, said layers being deposited on and supported by said substrate member;
- said substrate member comprising a ceramic-glass matrix and said resistance layer comprising conductive particles dispersed in a glass matrix;
- said termination layer comprising a metallic conductive layer electrically connected with said resistive layer and wherein said termination layer has a softening temperature higher than the sintering temperatures of the respective glass matrices of the substrate member and of the deposited resistive layer;
- the said conductive layer further comprised of a material capable of being soldered to a terminal lead member.
- 2. The resistor element of claim 1, wherein the termination layer is comprised essentially of metallic silver, and the glass forming materials of the respective matrices of said substrate member and of said termination member are selected to have a sintering temperature below the melting temperature of silver.
- 3. The resistor element of claim 1, wherein said substrate is joined in facing relationship to a cover member, each of said members being formed of substantially identical ceramic-glass composition, said substrate member having an inner surface supporting the conducting metallic termination layer and a resistive layer connected to said terminating layer, said resistive layer comprising conductive particles dispersed in a glass matrix, said substrate member and said resistive layer having sintering temperatures below the softening temperature of said termination layer, whereby said substrate member and the said termination and resistive layers may be simultaneously co-fired, and recessed areas in at least one of either of said cover and substrate members for receiving oppositely spaced termination leads, a terminal lead conductively connected to said termination layer on said substrate member, and means for joining together said substrate member and said cover member in facing relationship with said leads being seated therebetween.
- 4. The fixed resistor element of claim 3, wherein said cover member and said substrate member are each elongated and have a semicircular cross section including a coextensive flat surface, said recessed areas providing re-entrant notches disposed at opposite ends of the flat facing surfaces, said termination layer being disposed on said surface to include the surface of said notches on said substrate member, and oppositely disposed terminal leads anchored in respective cavities defined by the facing notches.
- 5. The fixed resistor of claim 3, wherein the cover member and the substrate member are adhesively joined together.
