Claims
- 1. An electrochemical device comprising:
- a stacked plurality of solid electrolyte layers;
- a pair of electrodes each provided on one of said solid electrolyte layers;
- a heating element having conductors connected thereto; and
- porous first and second insulation layers, said porous insulation layers being disposed between said solid electrolyte layers and sandwich said heating element and said conductors therebetween;
- wherein said porous insulation layers are embedded within said solid electrolyte layers such that said heating element and said conductors are isolated from a gaseous fluid to which said device is exposed during use.
- 2. The electrochemical device of claim 1, wherein said porous insulation layers consist essentially of alumina or spinel.
- 3. The electrochemical device of claim 1, wherein said porous insulation layers are embedded within said solid electrolyte layers such that each of said porous insulation layers is within the area defined by the lateral edges of said solid electrolyte layers.
- 4. The electrochemical device of claim 1, wherein said device is an oxygen sensing device.
