Claims
- 1. In combination, a pair of devices, each device including a nonradiative dielectric waveguide, said nonradiative dielectric waveguide comprising:a pair of conductors which are arranged substantially parallel to each other and at a specified spacing; and a dielectric strip which is disposed between the pair of conductors; each said device having an end surface which is defined by a respective end of each of said conductors so as to be transverse to a direction in which an electromagnetic wave is propagated in the dielectric strip, an end of the dielectric strip being exposed at said end surface of the device; said exposed ends of the respective dielectric strips corresponding to the pair of devices being electromagnetically coupled to each other for propagating said electromagnetic wave between the respective devices; wherein the exposed end of one said dielectric strip has a projection which protrudes from the end surface of the corresponding device.
- 2. In combination, a pair of devices, each device including a nonradiative dielectric waveguide, said nonradiative dielectric waveguide comprising:a pair of conductors which are arranged substantially parallel to each other and at a specified spacing; and a dielectric strip which is disposed between the pair of conductors; each said device having an end surface which is defined by a respective end of each of said conductors so as to be transverse to a direction in which an electromagnetic wave is propagated in the dielectric strip, an end of the dielectric strip being exposed at said end surface of the device; said exposed ends of the respective dielectric strips corresponding to the pair of devices being electromagnetically coupled to each other for propagating said electromagnetic wave between the respective devices; wherein the exposed end of one said dielectric strip has a recess which is retracted from the end surface of the corresponding device.
- 3. A combination as claimed in claim 2, wherein the exposed end of the other said dielectric strip has a projection which protrudes from the end surface of the conductors.
- 4. A combination as claimed in claim 3, wherein said projection and said recess have corresponding curved shapes and are engaged with each other.
- 5. A combination as claimed in claim 4, wherein said exposed ends of said dielectric strips are spaced apart by a gap.
- 6. A combination as claimed in claim 3, wherein said projection and said recess have correspondingly angular shapes and are engaged with each other.
- 7. A combination as claimed in claim 6, wherein said exposed ends of said dielectric strips are spaced apart by a gap.
- 8. In combination, a pair of devices, each device including a nonradiative dielectric waveguide, said nonradiative dielectric waveguide comprising:a pair of conductors which are arranged substantially parallel to each other and at a specified spacing; and a dielectric strip which is disposed between the pair of conductors; each said device having an end surface which is defined by a respective end of each of said conductors so as to be transverse to a direction in which an electromagnetic wave is propagated in the dielectric strip, an end of the dielectric strip being exposed at said end surface of the device; said exposed ends of the respective dielectric strips corresponding to the pair of devices being electromagnetically coupled to each other for propagating said electromagnetic wave between the respective devices; wherein the respective exposed ends of both said dielectric strips protrude from the corresponding end surfaces of the respective devices.
- 9. A device including a nonradiative dielectric waveguide, said nonradiative dielectric wageguide comprising:a pair of conductors which are arranged substantially parallel to each other and at a specified spacing; and a dielectric strip which is disposed between the pair of conductors; said device having an end surface which is defined by respective ends of said conductors so as to be transverse to a direction in which an electromagnetic wave is propagated in the dielectric strip; an end of said dielectric strip being exposed at said end surface of the device for being electromagnetically coupled to another such dielectric strip in another such device for propagating an electromagnetic wave between the respective devices; wherein the exposed end of said dielectric strip has a projection which protrudes from the end surface of the device.
- 10. A device as claimed in claim 9, wherein said projection has a curved shape.
- 11. A device as claimed in claim 9, wherein said projection has an angular shape.
- 12. A device including a nonradiative dielectric waveguide, said nonradiative dielectric waveguide comprising:a pair of conductors which are arranged substantially parallel to each other and at a specified spacing; and a dielectric strip which is disposed between the pair of conductors; said device having an end surface which is defined by respective ends of said conductors so as to be transverse to a direction in which an electromagnetic wave is propagated in the dielectric strip; an end of said dielectric strip being exposed at said end surface of the device for being electromagnetically coupled to another such dielectric strip in another such device for propagating an electromagnetic wave between the respective devices; wherein the exposed end of said dielectric strip has a recess with is retracted from the end surface of the device.
- 13. A device as claimed in claim 12, wherein said recess has a curved shape.
- 14. A device as claimed in claim 12, wherein said recess has an angular shape.
