Various embodiments of the disclosure relate to an electronic device and a method for detecting designated movement, for example, to an electronic device and a method for detecting designated movement of an electronic device and providing services based thereon.
In line with the development of technology, electronic devices are evolving to be smaller for easy carrying and to perform various functions in various forms of use depending on user needs. One of such devices is a wearable device that can be directly attached to a part of the user's body for use.
Nowadays various electronic devices including wearable devices are equipped with multiple sensors and are able to obtain various information and provide various services based on the obtained information.
Additional aspects will be set forth in part in the description which follows and, in part, will be apparent from the description, or may be learned by practice of the presented embodiments.
Provided is an electronic device for detecting a designated movement through at least one sensor mounted to the electronic device, and a method therefor.
Further provided is an electronic device for detecting a designated movement through at least one sensor mounted to the electronic device and providing various services based on the same, and a method therefor.
The technical problems to be solved in the disclosure are not limited to the technical problems mentioned above, and other technical problems not mentioned will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art to which the disclosure pertains from the description below.
According to an aspect of the disclosure, an electronic device includes one or more motion sensors, a memory, and at least one processor connected to the memory and the motion sensor and configured to calculate a vector based on sensor values received from the one or more motion sensors; identify changes in an x-axis angle and a y-axis angle of the vector over a period time; detect a start time and an end time of a designated movement based on the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of the vector over the period of time; and produce exercise information based on the start time and the end time.
The at least one processor may be further configured to detect the start time as a time at which the changes in the x-axis angle of the vector switches from a value of 0 to a negative value and at which the changes in the y-axis angle of the vector switches from a value of 0 to a positive value.
The at least one processor may be further configured to detect the end time as a time at which the changes in the x-axis angle of the vector switches from a negative value to a value of 0 and at which the changes in the y-axis angle of the vector switches from a positive value to a value of 0.
The at least one processor may be further configured to detect, as the start time and the end time, a start time and an end time of a period of a negative correlation based on a correlation between the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of a first vector calculated at the start time and a second vector calculated at the end time.
The at least one processor may be further configured to: calculate an amount of change of a first vector calculated at the start time and a second vector calculated at the end time; and determine that the designated movement has occurred once in a state in which the amount of change is equal to or greater than a specified threshold value.
The at least one processor may be further configured to calculate an angular change between the first vector and the second vector during a time interval between the start time and the end time and produce the angular change between the first vector and the second vector as exercise intensity information.
The at least one processor may be further configured to determine a number of times the designated movement is detected as the exercise information and calculate calories burned based on the number of times the designated movement is detected and the exercise intensity information.
The at least one processor may be further configured to: add exercise time in a state in which the designated movement is continuously detected at a specified time interval or less; and calculate calories burned based on a detection frequency of the designated movement during the exercise time.
The electronic device may further include a display. The at least one processor may be further configured to display a visual image representing the exercise information as relative information of the exercise information on the display.
The at least one processor may be further configured to notify a user of the electronic device in a state in which the exercise information is insufficient compared to reference exercise information.
According to another aspect of the disclosure, a method of an electronic device includes: calculating a vector based on sensor values received from a motion sensor of the electronic device; identifying changes in an x-axis angle and a y-axis angle of the vector over time; detecting a start time and an end time of a designated movement based on the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of the vector over the period of time; and producing exercise information based on the start time and the end time.
The detecting the start time and the end time of the designated movement may include detecting the start time as a time at which the changes in the x-axis angle of the vector switches from a value of 0 to a negative value and at which the changes in the y-axis angle of the vector switches from a value of 0 to a positive value.
The detecting the start time and the end time of the designated movement may include detecting the end time as a time at which the changes in the x-axis angle of the vector switches from a negative value to a value of 0 and at which the changes in the y-axis angle of the vector switches from a positive value to a value of 0.
The detecting the start time and the end time of the designated movement may include detecting, as the start time and the end time, a start time and an end time of a period of a negative correlation based on a correlation between the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of a first vector calculated at the start time and a second vector calculated at the end time.
The producing of the exercise information may include: calculating an amount of change of a first vector calculated at the start time and a second vector calculated at the end time; and determining that the designated movement has occurred once in a state in which the amount of change is equal to or greater than a specified threshold value.

The processor 120 may execute, for example, software (e.g., a program 140) to control at least one other component (e.g., a hardware or software component) of the electronic device 101 coupled with the processor 120, and may perform various data processing or computation. According to one embodiment, as at least part of the data processing or computation, the processor 120 may store a command or data received from another component (e.g., the sensor module 176 or the communication module 190) in volatile memory 132, process the command or the data stored in the volatile memory 132, and store resulting data in non-volatile memory 134. According to an embodiment, the processor 120 may include a main processor 121 (e.g., a central processing unit (CPU) or an application processor (AP)), or an auxiliary processor 123 (e.g., a graphics processing unit (GPU), a neural processing unit (NPU), an image signal processor (ISP), a sensor hub processor, or a communication processor (CP)) that is operable independently from, or in conjunction with, the main processor 121. For example, when the electronic device 101 includes the main processor 121 and the auxiliary processor 123, the auxiliary processor 123 may be adapted to consume less power than the main processor 121, or to be specific to a specified function. The auxiliary processor 123 may be implemented as separate from, or as part of the main processor 121.
The auxiliary processor 123 may control at least some of functions or states related to at least one component (e.g., the display module 160, the sensor module 176, or the communication module 190) among the components of the electronic device 101, instead of the main processor 121 while the main processor 121 is in an inactive (e.g., sleep) state, or together with the main processor 121 while the main processor 121 is in an active state (e.g., executing an application). According to an embodiment, the auxiliary processor 123 (e.g., an image signal processor or a communication processor) may be implemented as part of another component (e.g., the camera module 180 or the communication module 190) functionally related to the auxiliary processor 123. According to an embodiment, the auxiliary processor 123 (e.g., the neural processing unit) may include a hardware structure specified for artificial intelligence model processing. An artificial intelligence model may be generated by machine learning. Such learning may be performed, e.g., by the electronic device 101 where the artificial intelligence is performed or via a separate server (e.g., the server 108). Learning algorithms may include, but are not limited to, e.g., supervised learning, unsupervised learning, semi-supervised learning, or reinforcement learning. The artificial intelligence model may include a plurality of artificial neural network layers. The artificial neural network may be a deep neural network (DNN), a convolutional neural network (CNN), a recurrent neural network (RNN), a restricted boltzmann machine (RBM), a deep belief network (DBN), a bidirectional recurrent deep neural network (BRDNN), deep Q-network or a combination of two or more thereof but is not limited thereto. The artificial intelligence model may, additionally or alternatively, include a software structure other than the hardware structure.
The memory 130 may store various data used by at least one component (e.g., the processor 120 or the sensor module 176) of the electronic device 101. The various data may include, for example, software (e.g., the program 140) and input data or output data for a command related thererto. The memory 130 may include the volatile memory 132 or the non-volatile memory 134.
The program 140 may be stored in the memory 130 as software, and may include, for example, an operating system (OS) 142, middleware 144, or an application 146.
The input module 150 may receive a command or data to be used by another component (e.g., the processor 120) of the electronic device 101, from the outside (e.g., a user) of the electronic device 101. The input module 150 may include, for example, a microphone, a mouse, a keyboard, a key (e.g., a button), or a digital pen (e.g., a stylus pen).
The sound output module 155 may output sound signals to the outside of the electronic device 101. The sound output module 155 may include, for example, a speaker or a receiver. The speaker may be used for general purposes, such as playing multimedia or playing record. The receiver may be used for receiving incoming calls. According to an embodiment, the receiver may be implemented as separate from, or as part of the speaker.
The display module 160 may visually provide information to the outside (e.g., a user) of the electronic device 101. The display module 160 may include, for example, a display, a hologram device, or a projector and control circuitry to control a corresponding one of the display, hologram device, and projector. According to an embodiment, the display module 160 may include a touch sensor adapted to detect a touch, or a pressure sensor adapted to measure the intensity of force incurred by the touch.
The audio module 170 may convert a sound into an electrical signal and vice versa. According to an embodiment, the audio module 170 may obtain the sound via the input module 150, or output the sound via the sound output module 155 or a headphone of an external electronic device (e.g., an electronic device 102) directly (e.g., wiredly) or wirelessly coupled with the electronic device 101.
The sensor module 176 may detect an operational state (e.g., power or temperature) of the electronic device 101 or an environmental state (e.g., a state of a user) external to the electronic device 101, and then generate an electrical signal or data value corresponding to the detected state. According to an embodiment, the sensor module 176 may include, for example, a gesture sensor, a gyro sensor, an atmospheric pressure sensor, a magnetic sensor, an acceleration sensor, a grip sensor, a proximity sensor, a color sensor, an infrared (IR) sensor, a biometric sensor, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, or an illuminance sensor.
The interface 177 may support one or more specified protocols to be used for the electronic device 101 to be coupled with the external electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 102) directly (e.g., wiredly) or wirelessly. According to an embodiment, the interface 177 may include, for example, a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), a universal serial bus (USB) interface, a secure digital (SD) card interface, or an audio interface.
A connecting terminal 178 may include a connector via which the electronic device 101 may be physically connected with the external electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 102). According to an embodiment, the connecting terminal 178 may include, for example, a HDMI connector, a USB connector, a SD card connector, or an audio connector (e.g., a headphone connector).
The haptic module 179 may convert an electrical signal into a mechanical stimulus (e.g., a vibration or a movement) or electrical stimulus which may be recognized by a user via his tactile sensation or kinesthetic sensation. According to an embodiment, the haptic module 179 may include, for example, a motor, a piezoelectric element, or an electric stimulator.
The camera module 180 may capture a still image or moving images. According to an embodiment, the camera module 180 may include one or more lenses, image sensors, image signal processors, or flashes.
The power management module 188 may manage power supplied to the electronic device 101. According to one embodiment, the power management module 188 may be implemented as at least part of, for example, a power management integrated circuit (PMIC).
The battery 189 may supply power to at least one component of the electronic device 101. According to an embodiment, the battery 189 may include, for example, a primary cell which is not rechargeable, a secondary cell which is rechargeable, or a fuel cell.
The communication module 190 may support establishing a direct (e.g., wired) communication channel or a wireless communication channel between the electronic device 101 and the external electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 102, the electronic device 104, or the server 108) and performing communication via the established communication channel. The communication module 190 may include one or more communication processors that are operable independently from the processor 120 (e.g., the application processor (AP)) and supports a direct (e.g., wired) communication or a wireless communication. According to an embodiment, the communication module 190 may include a wireless communication module 192 (e.g., a cellular communication module, a short-range wireless communication module, or a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) communication module) or a wired communication module 194 (e.g., a local area network (LAN) communication module or a power line communication (PLC) module). A corresponding one of these communication modules may communicate with the external electronic device via the first network 198 (e.g., a short-range communication network, such as Bluetooth™, wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) direct, or infrared data association (IrDA)) or the second network 199 (e.g., a long-range communication network, such as a legacy cellular network, a 5G network, a next-generation communication network, the Internet, or a computer network (e.g., LAN or wide area network (WAN)). These various types of communication modules may be implemented as a single component (e.g., a single chip), or may be implemented as multi components (e.g., multi chips) separate from each other. The wireless communication module 192 may identify and authenticate the electronic device 101 in a communication network, such as the first network 198 or the second network 199, using subscriber information (e.g., international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI)) stored in the subscriber identification module 196.
The wireless communication module 192 may support a 5G network, after a 4G network, and next-generation communication technology, e.g., new radio (NR) access technology. The NR access technology may support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communications (mMTC), or ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC). The wireless communication module 192 may support a high-frequency band (e.g., the mmWave band) to achieve, e.g., a high data transmission rate. The wireless communication module 192 may support various technologies for securing performance on a high-frequency band, such as, e.g., beamforming, massive multiple-input and multiple-output (massive MIMO), full dimensional MIMO (FD-MIMO), array antenna, analog beam-forming, or large scale antenna. The wireless communication module 192 may support various requirements specified in the electronic device 101, an external electronic device (e.g., the electronic device 104), or a network system (e.g., the second network 199). According to an embodiment, the wireless communication module 192 may support a peak data rate (e.g., 20 Gbps or more) for implementing eMBB, loss coverage (e.g., 164 dB or less) for implementing mMTC, or U-plane latency (e.g., 0.5 ms or less for each of downlink (DL) and uplink (UL), or a round trip of 1 ms or less) for implementing URLLC.
The antenna module 197 may transmit or receive a signal or power to or from the outside (e.g., the external electronic device) of the electronic device 101. According to an embodiment, the antenna module 197 may include an antenna including a radiating element composed of a conductive material or a conductive pattern formed in or on a substrate (e.g., a printed circuit board (PCB)). According to an embodiment, the antenna module 197 may include a plurality of antennas (e.g., array antennas). In such a case, at least one antenna appropriate for a communication scheme used in the communication network, such as the first network 198 or the second network 199, may be selected, for example, by the communication module 190 (e.g., the wireless communication module 192) from the plurality of antennas. The signal or the power may then be transmitted or received between the communication module 190 and the external electronic device via the selected at least one antenna. According to an embodiment, another component (e.g., a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC)) other than the radiating element may be additionally formed as part of the antenna module 197.
According to various embodiments, the antenna module 197 may form a mmWave antenna module. According to an embodiment, the mmWave antenna module may include a printed circuit board, a RFIC disposed on a first surface (e.g., the bottom surface) of the printed circuit board, or adjacent to the first surface and capable of supporting a designated high-frequency band (e.g., the mmWave band), and a plurality of antennas (e.g., array antennas) disposed on a second surface (e.g., the top or a side surface) of the printed circuit board, or adjacent to the second surface and capable of transmitting or receiving signals of the designated high-frequency band.
At least some of the above-described components may be coupled mutually and communicate signals (e.g., commands or data) therebetween via an inter-peripheral communication scheme (e.g., a bus, general purpose input and output (GPIO), serial peripheral interface (SPI), or mobile industry processor interface (MIPI)).
According to an embodiment, commands or data may be transmitted or received between the electronic device 101 and the external electronic device 104 via the server 108 coupled with the second network 199. Each of the electronic devices 102 or 104 may be a device of a same type as, or a different type, from the electronic device 101. According to an embodiment, all or some of operations to be executed at the electronic device 101 may be executed at one or more of the external electronic devices 102, 104, or 108. For example, if the electronic device 101 should perform a function or a service automatically, or in response to a request from a user or another device, the electronic device 101, instead of, or in addition to, executing the function or the service, may request the one or more external electronic devices to perform at least part of the function or the service. The one or more external electronic devices receiving the request may perform the at least part of the function or the service requested, or an additional function or an additional service related to the request, and transfer an outcome of the performing to the electronic device 101. The electronic device 101 may provide the outcome, with or without further processing of the outcome, as at least part of a reply to the request. To that end, a cloud computing, distributed computing, mobile edge computing (MEC), or client-server computing technology may be used, for example. The electronic device 101 may provide ultra low-latency services using, e.g., distributed computing or mobile edge computing. In another embodiment, the external electronic device 104 may include an internet-of-things (IoT) device. The server 108 may be an intelligent server using machine learning and/or a neural network. According to an embodiment, the external electronic device 104 or the server 108 may be included in the second network 199. The electronic device 101 may be applied to intelligent services (e.g., smart home, smart city, smart car, or healthcare) based on 5G communication technology or IoT-related technology.
The electronic device according to various embodiments may be one of various types of electronic devices. The electronic devices may include, for example, a portable communication device (e.g., a smartphone), a computer device, a portable multimedia device, a portable medical device, a camera, a wearable device, or a home appliance. According to an embodiment of the disclosure, the electronic devices are not limited to those described above.

For example, according to an embodiment, the module may be implemented in a form of an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC).
Various embodiments as set forth herein may be implemented as software (e.g., the program 140) including one or more instructions that are stored in a storage medium (e.g., internal memory 136 or external memory 138) that is readable by a machine (e.g., the electronic device 101). For example, a processor (e.g., the processor 120) of the machine (e.g., the electronic device 101) may invoke at least one of the one or more instructions stored in the storage medium, and execute it, with or without using one or more other components under the control of the processor. This allows the machine to be operated to perform at least one function according to the at least one instruction invoked. The one or more instructions may include a code generated by a complier or a code executable by an interpreter. The machine-readable storage medium may be provided in the form of a non-transitory storage medium. Wherein, the term “non-transitory” simply means that the storage medium is a tangible device, and does not include a signal (e.g., an electromagnetic wave), but this term does not differentiate between where data is semi-permanently stored in the storage medium and where the data is temporarily stored in the storage medium.
According to an embodiment, a method according to various embodiments of the disclosure may be included and provided in a computer program product. According to an embodiment, the motion sensor 301 may also be called an inertial sensor or a six-axis sensor, and may include a gyro sensor 302 and an acceleration sensor 303. The acceleration sensor (accelerometer) may be a sensor that measures dynamic forces such as acceleration, vibration, and impact of an object. The acceleration sensor 303 may detect the motion state of an object, and thus may be utilized for various purposes. The electronic device 200 may detect a designated movement (e.g., a wheelchair pushing motion), based on acceleration data measured by the motion sensor 301. The gyro sensor (gyroscope) 302 may be a sensor that measures the angular velocity of the electronic device 200. The angular velocity measured by the gyro sensor 302 may denote a rotational speed (or angle) per hour. The gyro sensor 302 may also be referred to as a gyroscope.
According to an embodiment, the GPS module 304 may receive signals from GPS satellites, calculate the distance between the electronic device 200 and the satellites, based on the received GPS signals, and determine the location of the electronic device 200 as, for example, geographic coordinates or GPS coordinates expressed as a pair of latitude and longitude.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may control the overall operation of the electronic device 200 and the signal flow between the internal components of the electronic device 200, and may perform data processing.
According to an embodiment, the display 306 may be implemented as a touchscreen display including a touch sensor configured to detect a touch or a pressure sensor configured to measure the intensity of a force generated by the touch. The display 306 may visually display various information including images and/or text under the control of the processor 305. In general, when a user rides a wheelchair, exercise information based on the number of steps is unable to be provided. According to an embodiment, the electronic device 200 may provide a wheelchair user with exercise information related to wheelchair use. To this end, the electronic device 200 may detect a designated movement for the forward movement of the wheelchair, for example, a motion of pushing wheelchair wheels with hands, and may produce and provide exercise information based on the same.
According to an embodiment, as the electronic device 200 moves due to the motion of the wheelchair user, the processor 305 of the electronic device 200 may receive a sensor value from the motion sensor 301 of the electronic device 200. The sensor value received from the motion sensor 301 may include, for example, angular velocity information received from the gyro sensor 302 and/or acceleration information received from the acceleration sensor 303. Hereinafter, an operation of producing exercise information, based on acceleration information received from the acceleration sensor 303 will be described in detail, but the embodiment is not limited thereto, and the exercise information may be obtained by calculating a rotation angle value from the angular velocity information received from the gyro sensor 302 or using it as additional information.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may calculate movement information, based on the sensor value of the motion sensor 301, and detect a designated movement, based on this. For example, the movement information may include acceleration information, and the acceleration information may be produced from a value obtained by measuring, using the acceleration sensor 303, information on a force applied to the electronic device 200 with respect to the gravitational acceleration. The processor 305 may obtain x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis components or angles of a vector V of the force acting on the electronic device 200 according to the tilt of the electronic device 200 from the acceleration information, respectively. The x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis components of the vector V may indicate the angle at which the x-axis is tilted, the angle at which the y-axis is tilted, and the angle at which the z-axis is tilted, respectively, with respect to the ground.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may detect a designated movement, based on changes in the x-axis component and y-axis component of the vector V.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may analyze the correlation between the changes in the x-axis component and y-axis component of the vector V and, if it shows a negative correlation, determine that a designated movement has occurred. For example, based on the correlation between changes in the x-axis angle and y-axis angle of a first vector calculated at a specific time and a second vector calculated at a different time, the start time and the end time of a period indicating a negative correlation may be detected as a start time and an end time of the designated movement. The change in the x-axis component and y-axis component of the vector V may be analyzed as the x-axis angle gradient and the y-axis angle gradient, respectively.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may detect the time at which the x-axis component change of the vector V switches from a value of 0 to a negative value and at which the y-axis component change switches from a value of 0 to a positive value as the time at which the designated movement starts.
When the user starts pushing the wheelchair, the processor 305 may detect changes in the x-axis angle and y-axis angle at the time [410], for example, that a change in the x-axis angle switches from a value of 0 to a negative value and that a change in the y-axis angle switches from a value of 0 to a positive value, and may determine that the designated movement starts.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may detect the time at which the x-axis component change of vector V switches from a negative value to a value of 0 and at which the y-axis component change switches from a positive value to a value of 0 as the time at which the designated movement ends.
When the user ends pushing the wheelchair, the processor 305 may detect the changes of the x-axis angle and y-axis angle at the time [420], for example, that the x-axis angle change switches from a negative value to a value of 0 and that the y-axis angle change switches from a positive value to a value of 0, and may determine that the designated movement ends.
In an embodiment, the processor 305 may further calculate the angular change between the vector (the first vector V1) at the start time and the vector (the second vector V2) at the end time [420], and determine that the designated movement has occurred once if the calculated angular change is greater than or equal to a specified threshold value (e.g., 25 degrees). The processor 305 may detect the start time and end time of the designated movement and repeat the operation of calculating the angular change of the vector, thereby counting the number of occurrences of the designated movement.
According to an embodiment, if the start and end times of the designated movement are detected based on the sensor values of the sensor 301, the processor 305 may count that the designated movement has occurred once.
According to an embodiment, in the case where the start and end times of the designated movement are detected based on the sensor values of the sensor 301, the processor 305 may further count that the designated movement has occurred once if the angular change of the vector is equal to or greater than a specified threshold value.
According to an embodiment, various exercise information such as the speed, intensity, number of times, exercise amount, and movement distance of the designated movement may be calculated based on information such as the time interval between the start time and the end time of the designated movement, the angular change of the vector V, and/or the number of occurrences.
According to an embodiment, it can be seen that the change or slope of the x-axis angle 501 is negative and the change or slope of the y-axis angle 502 continues to be positive after the time 510, and that the change or slope of the x-axis angle 501 switches from negative to 0 and the change or slope of the y-axis angle 502 switches from positive to negative at the time 520. Therefore, the processor 305 of the electronic device 200 may detect that the designated movement is terminated at the time 520. Accordingly, the processor 305 may count one execution of the designated movement. In addition, the processor 305 may determine whether or not the designated movement occurs, based on the amount of change of a vector including the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of the start time 510 and the end time 520 of the designated movement.

In general, the x-axis angle and y-axis angle of the vector at the times at which the wheelchair pushing motion starts and ends may differ between wheelchair users. According to an embodiment, the designated-movement start time and end time for detecting the wheelchair pushing motion may be determined based on the time at which the slope of the x-axis angle and the slope of the y-axis angle switch or their correlation, and thus, the designated movement may be defined based on the change trend and/or correlation of the slope of the x-axis angle and the slope of the y-axis angle, thereby dynamically determining and detecting whether or not the designated movement occurs.
According to an embodiment, if the start time 510 and the end time 520 of the designated movement are detected, the processor 305 may calculate the angular change of the vector of the start time 510 and the end time 520.

According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may determine the time interval between the start time 510 and the end time 520 of the designated movement as the time during which the designated movement, for example, the movement of pushing the wheelchair, continues.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may calculate the exercise intensity and/or exercise speed, based on the duration of the designated movement, the amount of angular change of the vector between the start time 510 and the end time 520, and/or the interval between the designated-movement occurrence events. For example, based on the value obtained by dividing the amount of angular change of the vector due to the occurrence of the designated movement by the duration, if the amount of angular change per time is large, it may be determined that the exercise intensity is high. For example, if the interval between the designated-movement occurrence events is short, it may be determined that the exercise intensity becomes higher as the exercise speed increases.
Equation 3 below may represent an equation for calculating the angular velocity obtained by dividing the angular change of the vector due to the occurrence of the designated movement by the duration of the relevant movement as the exercise intensity.
Here, θ represents the amount of change of the vector between the start time and the end time in Equation 2, and te represents the time of the end time and ts represents the time of the start time, which may be expressed, for example, in units of minutes. According to an embodiment, in addition to the amount of change per time (angular velocity) of the vector, the interval between occurrences of the designated-movement event (movement occurrence frequency) may be measured and the exercise intensity may be corrected by further reflecting this.
According to an embodiment, the calories burned may be calculated based on the number of occurrences of designated movement and/or the exercise intensity. For example, when a designated-movement event occurs, the calories burned may be calculated based on the exercise intensity for each event. For example, the calories burned may be calculated based on the exercise intensity for the entire counted movement events and further based on information about the event occurrence interval. For example, the exercise intensity and/or the event occurrence interval may be applied as weights when calculating the calories burned.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may calculate additional exercise information through the pattern of the detected designated movement. For example, if a non-periodic but continuous movement is detected, the processor 305 may determine the same as general wheelchair driving. For example, if a periodic and continuous movement is detected, the processor 305 may determine the same as wheelchair driving for exercise. For example, if a periodic and short-cycle and/or high-intensity movement is repeated, the processor 305 may determine the same as uphill wheelchair driving, and in this case, the weight may be further reflected in the calculation of the calories burned depending on the length of the cycle.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may estimate, for example, the movement distance, based on the number of detections and/or the intensity of the designated movement. For example, the movement distance will be proportional to the number of detections of movement and may also be proportional to the intensity. However, on the flat ground, the amount of rotation of the wheelchair wheel will be greater than the occurrences of the designated movement, and on an uphill slope, the amount of rotation of the wheelchair wheel will be less than the occurrences of the designated movement. Therefore, the movement distance may be calculated in consideration of the duration, intensity, number of detections, and/or detection cycle of the designated movement.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may identify the movement distance, based on position values received from the GPS module 304. In this case, the processor 305 may compare the movement distance based on the GPS position values with the designated-movement detection cycle and, if the movement distance for one movement event detection is less than the circumference of the wheels of the wheelchair (a value obtained by multiplying the wheelchair radius by 2π), may determine it as an uphill slope and, if it is more than twice the circumference of the wheels of the wheelchair, determine it as a downhill slope.
According to an embodiment, in the case where a sensor capable of detecting rotation is attached to the wheelchair, the processor 305, if the rotation angle of the wheelchair for each detection of the designated movement is less than, for example, 180 degrees, may determine it as an uphill slope and, if the rotation angle of the wheelchair is 720 degrees or more, determine it as a downhill slope. In this case, the processor 305 may further improve the reliability of the designated movement detection by utilizing sensor values of the sensor attached to the wheelchair, in addition to sensor values of the motion sensor 301. For example, if the rotation of the wheelchair wheel is detected at the time at which the processor 305 detects the designated movement, the reliability of the designated-movement detection may be further improved.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 of the electronic device 200 may detect a designated movement, based on sensor values as described above and produce various exercise information based on the same.
According to an embodiment, the electronic device 200 may perform a service of producing and providing exercise information. Activity 702 may represent exercise time (e.g., in minutes). The exercise time may be calculated by summating the time for movement indoors or outdoors. For example, indoors, the exercise time may be determined as 1 minute from the time at which the designated movement is detected, and if the designated movement further occurs within 1 minute (e.g., after 20 seconds), the total exercise time may be 1 minute and 20 seconds, excluding the overlapping time. For example, outdoors, the exercise time may include the time at which movement is detected through the GPS module 304, in addition to the time at which the designated movement is detected. Meanwhile, the exercise time may be weighted depending on the exercise intensity (e.g., the intensity of the pushing motion). For example, the exercise time may be configured to be further accumulated when performing a high-intensity motion.
Calories 703 may represent the calories burned during the exercise time. For example, the calories 703 may be calculated, based on information such as the number of times exercised, exercise speed, and exercise intensity, in addition to the exercise time. For example, the processor 305 may produce information such as the number of times exercised and exercise intensity when detecting the designated movement, and calculate and provide calories burned up to the current time, compared to the recommended daily calories burned, as a basal metabolic rate and additional calories burned of the wheelchair user. Here, the number of times exercised may indicate the number of times the designated movement is detected. The exercise speed indicates the speed at which the designated movement is performed, and may be calculated based on the frequency at which the designated movement occurs during the entire exercise time. The exercise intensity may be calculated, when the designated movement is detected, as the amount of change (angular velocity) of the vector for the time during which the designated movement is performed. The exercise intensity may be determined by reflecting the exercise speed in addition to the angular velocity.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may display images 711, 712, and 713 that visually represent exercise information on the display 306. The images 711, 712, and 713 may represent various shapes including a heart shape, and may be provided in a form configured such that the images are filled with different colors depending on the amount of exercise information, enabling the exercise information to be easily and quickly recognized visually. For example, the first image 711 may represent the number of times exercised 701, and may be filled with different colors proportional to the current number of times exercised, relative to the entire shape image representing the recommended number of times exercised or the predetermined total number of times exercised, thereby visually expressing the current number of times exercised. For example, the second image 712 may indicate the exercise time 702, and may be filled with different colors proportional to the current exercise time performed, relative to the entire shape image representing the recommended exercise time or the predetermined entire exercise time, thereby visually expressing the current exercise time. For example, the third image 713 may indicate exercise calories burned 703, and may be filled with different colors proportional to the current calories burned by exercise, relative to the entire shape image representing the recommended calories burned or the predetermined total exercise calories burned, thereby visually expressing the number or level of the current exercise calories.
According to an embodiment, the processor 305 may provide a service of recommending exercise through sound, vibration, and/or visual notification if a designated movement is not detected for a specified time or longer, based on the exercise information. In this case, the exercise goal of the wheelchair user may be set in advance, based on the number of designated movements or various exercise information, and information about insufficient exercise may be provided based on this, and an alarm for recommending exercise may be provided.

According to various embodiments, the exercise speed may be calculated based on the interval between the designated-movement detection times. For example, if the interval of a specified designated-movement occurrence event is short, the exercise speed may increase, and if the interval is long, the exercise speed may decrease. The exercise speed may be used as additional information for determining the exercise intensity. For example, if the exercise speed is high, it may be determined that the exercise intensity is high.
According to various embodiments, the calories burned may be calculated based on the number of times the designated movement is detected, the exercise speed, and/or the exercise intensity. For example, when a designated movement is detected, the calories burned may be calculated based on the exercise intensity for each movement. For example, the calories burned based on each exercise intensity may be calculated based on the exercise intensity for each of the total counted movement detections and further based on exercise speed information according to the detection interval.
In various embodiments, the calories burned may be adjusted based on the pattern of the movement. For example, when going uphill, the calories burned may be weighted to increase compared to when going downhill or on the flat ground.
In various embodiments, the processor 305 may produce additional exercise information through the pattern of the detected movement. For example, when a non-periodic but continuous movement is detected, the processor 305 may determine that it is general wheelchair driving. For example, when a periodic and continuous movement is detected, the processor 305 may determine that it is wheelchair driving for exercise. In various embodiments, the processor 305 may produce various exercise information, based on the number of times, duration, exercise intensity, and/or detection cycle of the designated movement. The electronic device according to various embodiments may provide an improvement in the technical field of electronic devices that track a user's exercise because the amount of movement is tracked based on calculating a vector based on sensor values received from one or more motion sensors in the electronic device, identifying changes in an x-axis angle and a y-axis angle of the vector over a period of time, detecting a start time and an end time of a designated movement based on the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of the vector over the period of time, and producing exercise information based on the start time and the end time. Because the exercise information is based on the start time and the end time of which the changes in the x-axis angle and the y-axis angle of the vector over the period of time, the electronic device may be used by users who are able to walk and by user's who are not able to walk (i.e. in wheelchairs) in order to monitor user's exercise information.
