Claims
- 1. Apparatus for holding an original subject sheet or the like about the cylindrical surface of a drum on an electronic stencil cutter comprising:
- a backing sheet wrapped about the drum;
- a flexible, transparent retainer sheet wrapped about the drum exteriorly of the backing sheet and adapted temporarily to retain an original subject sheet on the backing sheet in a scannable position beneath the retainer sheet;
- said retainer sheet having a fixed end fastened to the surface of the drum;
- clamp means gripping said fixed end of said retainer sheet extending substantially parallel to the axis of the drum;
- fastening means attaching said clamp means to the drum, said fastening means including means enabling limited angular adjustment of said clamp means relative to the axis of the drum in response to tensioning the retainer sheet about the drum to enable wrinkle-free disposition of said retainer sheet about the drum; and
- said retainer sheet having a free end opposite said fixed end, a fastener strip attached to said free end of the retainer sheet and attachable to a fastener strip fixed to the drum, said fastener strips being provided on their facing surfaces with interengageable loops and hooks enabling the strips to cling to one another when pressed together and enabling them to be manually separable by pulling outwardly on the free end of the retainer sheet.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1 in which the fixed and free ends of the retainer sheet are adjacent one another and parallel to the axis of the drum.
- 3. Apparatus according to claim 1 in which said fastener strips are disposed in a recess in the cylindrical surface of the drum at a radius smaller than the surface of the drum.
- 4. Apparatus for holding an original subject sheet or the like about the cylindrical surface of a drum comprising;
- a backing sheet wrapped about the drum;
- a transparent retainer sheet wrapped about the drum exteriorly of the backing sheet and adapted temporarily to retain an original subject sheet on the backing sheet in a scannable position visible through the retainer sheet;
- clamp means gripping fixed ends of said retainer and backing sheets extending substantially parallel to the axis of the drum;
- fastening means attaching said clamp means to the drum, said fastening means including means enabling limited angular adjustment of said clamp means relative to the axis of the drum in response to tensioning the retainer sheet about the drum to enable wrinkle-free disposition of the sheets about the drum;
- said retainer sheet having a free end opposite the fixed end, thereof, and pressure-sensitive adhesive means at said free end attachable to the surface of the drum by pressure applied thereto, said adhesive means being releasable by pulling said free end away from the drum to provide access to said scannable position for removing and replacing a copy sheet.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 4 in which the clamp means is an elongated strip folded along its length to embrace said fixed ends of the retainer and backing sheets.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 4 in which the clamp means has a pair of tongues extending beyond opposite sides of the retainer sheet, said tongues being loosely retained by said fastening means.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 6 in which the fastening means comprises a pair of strap members spaced from the surface of the drum and respectively overlying said pair of tongues.
- 8. Apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet wrapped about the cylindrical wall of a drum comprising;
- said cylindrical wall having an elongated slot parallel to the axis thereof;
- an elongated clamp bar of size and shape to fit within said slot;
- guide means on said drum supporting said clamp bar for movement between a closed position within said slot, and an open position outside of said slot providing a gap between the bar and drum sufficient to insert a sheet;
- first spring means urging said clamp bar outwardly toward its said open position;
- a pair of latch members mounted within said drum at opposite ends of said clamp bar for movement between latched and unlatched positions;
- second spring means urging said latch levers toward their said latched positions;
- said latch members while in their latched positions having bottom surfaces overlying top surfaces of said clamp bar when the latter is in its said closed position to thereby lock said clamp bar in its said closed position, said latch members while in their unlatched positions having end portions urged by said second spring means into abuttable relatively slidable engagment with side surfaces of said clamp bar when the latter is in its said open position to thereby automatically hold said latch members in their said unlatched positions while enabling said clamp bar to be moved toward its said closed position by pressing said clamp bar inwardly into the drum against the urgence of said first spring means; and
- said latch members being automatically movable into their respective latched positions by said second spring means in response to pressing said clamp bar into its said closed position.
- 9. Apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet according to claim 8 in which said clamp bar has an abrasive strip extending along an outside surface for dressing a stylus wire electrode while the drum rotates.
- 10. Apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet according to claim 8 in which:
- said guide means on said drum includes a pair of brackets mounted on said drum at opposite ends of said slot;
- said brackets have shoulders within said drum and apertures in said shoulders;
- a pair of slide shafts are disposed radially to the axis of the drum and extend through said apertures in said shoulders and are movable within said apertures with in and out movement of said clamp bar;
- said first spring means consists of a pair of springs retained by said shafts and interposed between said shoulders and said clamp bar; and
- said shafts have enlarged heads internally of said shoulders to limit outward movement of said clamp bar by engagement of said heads with the shoulders in the open position of the clamp bar.
- 11. Apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet according to claim 10 in which:
- said brackets are removably mounted on said drum;
- said latch members are pivotally mounted on said brackets; and
- said second spring means consists of a pair of springs carried by said brackets;
- whereby the entire apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet may be installed and removed as a unit by attaching and detaching the brackets to and from the drum.
- 12. Apparatus for holding a stencil or like sheet according to claim 8 in which:
- said latch members are pivotally mounted within said drum for swinging movement toward and away from one another between their latched and unlatched positions, said latch members being movable in a plane containing the central axis of the drum;
- said latch members have body portions extending substantially radially of the drum axis and have heads offset laterally from said body portions toward the clamp bar;
- said bottom surfaces of said latch members are on the undersides of said heads for engaging said top surfaces of said clamp bar when the latter is in its said closed position;
- said end portions of said latch members being on the ends of said heads; and
- said side surfaces of said clamp bar being opposite end surfaces thereof and being in planes substantially perpendicular to the central axis of the drum whereby said end portions of the heads are pressed by said second spring means against said end surfaces of the clamp bar when the latter is in its said open position.
