Claims
- 1. An electronic timepiece comprising:
- a primary timepiece circuit unit including a frequency supply for providing a relatively high frequency signal, a frequency converter responsive to said relatively high frequency signal for providing a relatively low frequency time unit signal, timing signals, and a plurality of word timing pulses, timekeeping register means including a plurality of shift register stages responsive to said timing signals for dynamic recirculation of data stored in said timekeeping register means, said data comprising current time data and a first set of additional data, said data being stored in a plurality of data storage locations of said timekeeping register such that the contents of each of said data storage locations appear at an output terminal of said timekeeping register means during a time interval corresponding to a predetermined one of said word timing pulses, adder circuit means located in said timekeeping register means and responsive to said time unit signal for periodically updating said current time data, and display means including a plurality of display elements for displaying said time data and said first set of additional data;
- a secondary circuit unit including secondary register means comprising a plurality of register stages responsive to said timing signals of said primary timepiece circuit unit for storing data, said data comprising a second set of additional data which is stored in a plurality of data storage locations of said secondary register means such that the contents of each of said data storage locations appear at an output terminal of said secondary register means during a time interval corresponding to a predetermined one of said word timing pulses of said primary timepiece circuit unit; and
- control gate means for controlling the transfer of at least a portion of said second set of additional data from said secondary storage register means to said timekeeping register means to thereby replace at least a portion of said first set of additional data.
- 2. An electronic timepiece according to claim 1, and further comprising input control gate means for controlling the transfer of at least a portion of said first set of additional data from said timekeeping register means to said secondary register means, to thereby replace at least a portion of said second set of additional data.
- 3. An electronic timepiece according to claim 1, in which said second set of additional data comprises a plurality of data sets, each of said data sets being stored in an integral number of said data storage locations of said secondary register means.
- 4. An electronic timepiece according to claim 3, in which said secondary circuit unit further comprises clock control circuit means coupled to receive said timing signals from said primary timepiece circuit unit, for producing periodic bursts of timing signals to be applied to said secondary register means for recirculating the data contents of said secondary register means in a periodic intermittent manner, said recirculation being performed in synchronism with recirculation of said timekeeping register means during each of said periodic timing signal bursts.
- 5. An electronic timepiece according to claim 4, and further comprising means for generating control circuit means to selectively initiate a first operating mode in which successive ones of said data sets stored in said secondary register are successively written into said first set of additional data stored in said timekeeping register means, and a second operating mode in which one of said data sets stored in said secondary register is written into said first additional set of data in said timekeeping register and is held stored therein.
- 6. An electronic timepiece according to claim 5, and further comprising an extermal control member coupled to switch means for producing a manual shift signal in response to each actuation thereof, said clock control circuit means of said secondary timepiece circuit unit being responsive to successive initiations of said manual shift signal during said second operating mode for producing bursts of said timing pulses of such timing and duration as to transfer successive ones of said data sets through said output gate means to be written into said first set of additional data in said timekeeping register.
- 7. An electronic timepiece according to claim 1, and further comprising means for supplying said clock signals from said primary timepiece circuit unit to said secondary circuit unit in periodic bursts of signal, at a relatively low repetition rate.
- 8. An electronic timepiece according to claim 1, wherein said secondary circuit unit is provided with terminals for enabling a plurality of shift register stages to be externally coupled into said closed recirculation path of said secondary register means.
