Claims
- 1. A ballot system for use by a voter, comprising:a printed top sheet with indicia representing races and contests for a particular election, the top sheet having first fields in which the voter can manually enter selections by marking the first fields; and a corresponding bottom sheet removably attached to the top sheet, the bottom sheet having printed data processing graphical marks thereon including an optically scannable data element identifying a ballot style, and having second fields underlying the first fields on the top sheet, the printed top sheet having a transfer medium capable of transferring markings made on the first fields to the second fields.
- 2. The ballot system of claim 1, wherein the transfer medium is of limited extent underlying the first fields to prevent transfer of spurious markings onto the corresponding bottom sheet.
- 3. The ballot system of claim 1, wherein the optically scannable data element comprises a bar code.
- 4. The ballot system of claim 3, wherein the bar code further comprises an encrypted code for proving authenticity of the absentee ballot.
- 5. The ballot system of claim 3, where the bar code further comprises a unique absentee ballot identifier.
- 6. The ballot system of claim 3, wherein the data processing graphical marks further comprise at least one optical target.
