Claims
- 1. A steerable solid state light apparatus, comprising:a light apparatus including an array of solid state light sources generating a light beam; optics disposed over each said solid state light source, and a control circuit individually electronically controlling the drive current of each solid state light source such that, in combination with said optics, said control circuit selectively adjusts a beam orientation of the light beam.
- 2. The apparatus as specified in claim 1, wherein partial sections of said light source array can be selectively driven by said control circuit.
- 3. The apparatus as specified in claim 2, wherein said generated light beam is steerable ±7.5 degrees above/below a normalized horizontal axis.
- 4. The apparatus as specified in claim 2, wherein said generated light beam is steerable +3/−12 degrees above/below of a normalized horizontal axis.
- 5. The apparatus as specified in claim 2 wherein said generated light beam is steerable ±7.5 degrees left/right of a normalized vertical axis.
- 6. The apparatus as specified in claim 2, wherein said light source comprises an array of LED's.
- 7. The apparatus as specified in claim 1, wherein said optics comprises a light diffuser.
- 8. The apparatus as specified in claim 1, wherein said optics comprises at least one lens disposed over each said solid state light source.
- 9. The apparatus as specified in claim 8, wherein said lenses have different optical characteristics.
- 10. The apparatus as specified in claim 9, wherein said lenses have different thicknesses.
- 11. The apparatus as specified in claim 9, wherein said lenses have different radii of curvature.
- 12. The apparatus as specified in claim 11, wherein the lenses associated with the light sources proximate the array center have a radii being less than the lenses associated with peripheral said light sources.
- 13. The apparatus as specified in claim 8, wherein said optics also comprises a light diffuser.
- 14. A method of electronically adjusting a beam angle of light generated by a solid state light apparatus comprising:a light apparatus including an array of solid state light sources generating a light beam; optics disposed over each said solid state light source, and a control circuit individually electronically controlling the drive current of each solid state light source such that, in combination with said optics, said control circuit selectively adjusts a beam orientation of the light beam; comprising the steps of: said control circuit controlling said drive current of each said solid state light source to selectively adjust the beam orientation of said beam.
- 15. The method as described in claim 14 further comprising the step of said solid state light source comprising an array of LED's.
- 16. The apparatus as specified in claim 14, wherein said generated light beam is steerable ±7.5 degrees above/below a normalized horizontal axis.
- 17. The apparatus as specified in claim 14, wherein said generated light beam is steerable +3/−12 degrees above/below of a normalized horizontal axis.
- 18. The apparatus as specified in claim 14 wherein said generated light beam is steerable ±7.5 degrees left/right of a normalized vertical axis.
