Claims
- 1. A toy formed of a substrate and comprising an electrothermal color-varying device and a thermally color-varying layer comprising a thermally color-varying material, said color-varying material comprising a composition of an electron-donating color forming organic compound, an electron-accepting compound and an organic medium reversibly inducing a color developing reaction of said two compounds; said electrothermal color varying device comprising an electrothermal heat generating member comprising a sintered material based on BaTiO.sub.3 and having a flat front surface and an opposed back surface, the electrothermal heat generating member being formed with electrodes at said front and back surfaces and being positioned with said front surface in close contact with a back surface of the toy substrate, wherein color change is induced in said color-varying layer by electric current supply to said heat-generating member,
- i) a positive temperature coefficient on the electric resistance at least within a temperature range of 25.degree. C. to 65.degree. C., and a steep increase of resistance with increase in temperature, whereby the amount of generated heat decreases with the increase in resistance to enable self-control of temperature,
- ii) a volume resistivity at 25.degree. C. (.rho..sub.25) within a range of 9.8.times.10.sup.-3 to 2.97.times.10.sup.5 .times..OMEGA..multidot.cm; and
- iii) a ratio .rho..sub.65 /.rho..sub.25 of the volume resistivity at 65.degree. C. to that at 25.degree. C. within a range indicated by 5.ltoreq..rho..sub.65 /.rho..sub.25 .ltoreq.200, which is adapted to generate heat by the application of a voltage of 0.8 to 40 V, and of which saturated heating temperature is self-controlled at an arbitrary temperature within a range of 25.degree. C. to 65.degree. C.
- 2. The toy according to claim 1, wherein the front surface of said electrothermal heat generating member contacts a heat-conductive sheet member positioned in close contact with the back surface of said substrate.
- 3. A toy according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the toy is a doll or animal toy, or an accessory for a doll or animal toy.
- 4. A toy according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the toy is a transportation vehicle toy.
- 5. A toy according to claims 1 or 2 wherein the toy is an educational toy.
