Claims
- 1. A process for producing an elongated object of an alternating copolymer of carbon monoxide and an olefinically unsaturated monomer wherein the copolymer has an intrinsic viscosity measured in m-cresol at 100.degree. C. of at least 1 dl/g, which comprises
- converting a solution of said copolymer into a solvent-containing object,
- removing between 90 and 99.9% of the solvent from the solvent-containing object, and
- stretching the thus obtained object at a temperature below the melting point of the copolymer.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the copolymer is a carbon monoxide-ethylene copolymer.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the solvent has a dipole moment between 3.times.10.sup.-30 and 9.times.10.sup.-30 Coulomb-meter, and said solvent has a Hildebrand solubility parameter of between 16 and 27 MPa.sup.-1/2.
- 4. A method according to claim 3, wherein said solvent is selected from the group consisting of phenol, pyrrole, 2-chlorophenol and 3-chlorophenol.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, wherein the concentration of the copolymer in said solution is between 0.5 and 50% by weight.
- 6. A method according to claim 5, wherein the concentration of the copolymer in the solution is between 10 and 35% by weight.
- 7. A method according to claim 1, wherein a gelling solvent is used and the solvent-containing object is cooled to a temperature below the gel point of the solution.
- 8. A method according to claim 1, wherein the stretching is carried out to a degree of stretching which is sufficient to obtain an object having a modulus of at least 16 GPa.
- 9. A method according to claim 1, wherein the stretching is carried out biaxially and in at least one direction to a degree of stretching which is sufficient to obtain an object having a tensile strength of at least 0.3 GPa and a modulus of elasticity of at least 3.5 GPa in the direction of stretching.
- 10. A method according to claim 9, wherein the stretching is conducted such that the tensile strength in the at least one direction is at least 0.5 GPa and the modulus of elasticity is at least 5 GPa.
- 11. A method according to claim 1, wherein the solvent is a gelling solvent.
