Claims
- 1. A process for the continuous production of an emulsion water paint, which comprises (1) in a first stage feeding (A) an organic solvent solution comprising a carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component, an epoxy resin component and a component of a curing agent resin for the epoxy resin independently or in combination, together with (B) an aqueous solution of ammonia or an amine, to an in-line mixer, at an (A)/(B) weight mixing ratio of from 10/10 to 10/1, mixing the solution at a temperature of 10.degree. to 90.degree. C. under a pressure of 0.2 to 10 kg/cm.sup.2 (gauge) to form a w/o emulsion, (2) in a second stage feeding the resulting w/o emulsion together with water in an amount of 30 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the w/o emulsion to an in-line mixer, mixing the w/o emulsion and water in the second mixer to effect a phase inversion to an o/w emulsion, and (3) withdrawing the formed o/w emulsion quantitatively.
- 2. A process according to claim 1, wherein mixing in the in-line mixer of the first stage is carried out so that the stirring efficiency (K) expressed by the following formula is 5 to 50:
- K=V.sub.2 /V.sub.1
- wherein V.sub.1 stands for the feed rate (l/min) to the in-line mixer and V.sub.2 stands for the extrusion rate (l/min) of the stirrer in the in-line mixer, measured by using water.
- 3. A process according to claim 1, wherein the carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component and the epoxy resin component are present in the form of a copolymer in the solution.
- 4. A process according to claim 1, wherein the carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component and the epoxy resin component are present in the form of a blend in the solution.
- 5. A process according to claim 1, wherein the coating-forming component in the organic solvent solution comprises the carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component, the epoxy resin component and a resol phenolic resin component containing methylol groups, and at least 30 mole % of all of the methylol groups in the resol phenolic resin are alkyl-etherified.
- 6. A process according to claim 5, wherein the carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component and the epoxy resin component are present in the form of a copolymer.
- 7. A process according to claim 6, wherein the copolymer contains free carboxyl groups and epoxy groups.
- 8. A process according to claim 5, wherein the carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin component and the epoxy resin component are present in the form of a blend.
- 9. A process according to claim 5, wherein the etherified resol phenolic resin component is a butyl-etherified resol phenolic resin.
