Claims
- 1. The (R)-enantiomer of 4-[[(cyanoimino)[(1,2,2-trimethylpropyl)amino]methyl]amino]benzonitrile or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, substantially separated from its corresponding S-enantiomer.
- 2. The (R)-enantiomer as defined in claim 1 substantially separated from its corresponding S-enantiomer.
- 3. The (R)-enantiomer as defined in claim 1 having the structure in substantially pure form.
- 4. The (R)-enantiomer as defined in claim 1 having an enantiomeric purity equal to at least 99%.
- 5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising the (R)-enantiomer as defined in claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
- 6. A pharmaceutical combination which comprises the R-enantiomer as defined in claim 1 in combination with another hair growth promoting agent.
- 7. A pharmaceutical composition for promoting hair growth comprising the (R)-enantiomer of 4-[[(cyanomino)[(1,2,2-trimethylpropyl)amino]methyl]amino]benzonitrile or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, substantially separated from its corresponding S-enantiomer, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor, in the form of a topical composition.
- 8. The composition as defined in claim 7 comprising from about 0.01 to about 15% by weight of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 9. The composition as defined in claim 7 comprising from about 0.1 to about 10% by weight of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 10. The composition as defined in claim 7 comprising a 2% solution of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 11. A method for promoting hair growth which comprises administering to a human in need of treatment a composition for promoting hair growth comprising a therapeutically effective amount of the composition as defined in claim 7.
- 12. The method as defined in claim 11 wherein said composition comprises from abut 0.01 to about 15% by weight of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 13. The method as defined in claim 11 wherein said composition comprises from about 0.1 to about 10% by weight of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 14. The method as defined in claim 11 wherein said composition comprises 2% by weight of said (R)-enantiomer.
- 15. The composition as defined in claim 6 wherein said other hair growth promoting agent is another potassium channel opener, a 5-α-reductase inhibitor, an androgen blocker, betamethasone dipropionate, a corticosteroid, scopolamine and/or cyproterone acetate.
- 16. The composition as defined in claim 15 wherein the other potassium channel opener is minoxidil, diazoxide, cromakalim and/or pinacidil, the 5-α-reductase inhibitor is finasteride, terazosin HCl , and/or doxaosin mesylate; the androgen blocker is 4-(5-methoxyheptyl)-hexahydro-2(1H)-pentalenone, and the corticosteroid is hydrocortisone.
- 17. The composition as defined in claim 15 wherein said other hair growth promoting agent is a 5-α-reductase inhibitor.
- 18. The composition as defined in claim 17 wherein the 5-α-reductase inhibitor is finasteride.
