Claims
- 1. A method for treating cardiac insufficiency, comprising the steps of:
providing a catheter having an expandable stent releasably mounted on a distal end of the catheter, the stent having a pump mounted in an interior of the stent; inserting the distal end of the catheter into a peripheral artery; advancing the catheter to position the stent at a region of interest within the ascending aorta upstream of the brachiocephalic artery; expanding the stent; releasing the stent and pump from the catheter; and activating the pump to increase arterial blood flow downstream of the pump.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein a manometer is mounted on at least one of a proximal end and distal end of the pump.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the pump further comprises a radiopaque material.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the stent further comprises a radiopaque material.
- 5. The method of claim 4, further comprising the step of verifying the position of the stent fluoroscopically.
- 6. A method for augmenting venous return, comprising the steps of:
providing a catheter having an expandable stent releasably mounted on a distal end of the catheter, the stent having a pump mounted in an interior of the stent; inserting the distal end of the catheter into a vein; advancing the catheter to position the stent at a region of interest within the inferior vena cava; expanding the stent; releasing the stent and pump from the catheter; and activating the pump to increase venous return of blood to the right atrium.
