Claims
- 1. A treatment device assembly for an endoscopic surgical instrument comprising:
- a) a needle having a hollow core;
- b) means for guiding said needle;
- c) control structure means for extending and retracting said needle;
- d) needle supply means for providing connection to said hollow core of said needle;
- e) means for interlocking said assembly to a housing of said endoscopic surgical instrument, so as to extend said needle and means for guiding through a single access conduit of said endoscopic surgical instrument; and
- f) means for insertion of an endoscope probe through said single access conduit with said assembly interlocked with said housing.
- 2. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said needle supply means is for inserting laser fiberoptics through said hollow core.
- 3. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said needle supply means is for inserting microsurgical instruments through said hollow core.
- 4. An assembly as recited in claim 1 further comprising:
- means for deflecting said needle at an angle from a primary axis of said needle.
- 5. An assembly as recited in claim 4 wherein said means for deflecting includes said means for guiding having a bendable guiding sheath with a bendable bellows having a guide wire enclosed therein having a first end and a second end with a hollow portion located near said first end, and said assembly further comprising means for tensioning said guide wire;
- whereby when said guide wire is tensioned by an operator through operation of said means for tensioning, said bellows portion is angled away from a primary axis of said guiding sheath and said electrode is deflected away from said primary axis.
- 6. An assembly as recited in claim 4 wherein said means for deflecting is a curved end in said means for guiding for directing said needle away from said primary axis.
- 7. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said needle is an electrode having a hollow core.
- 8. An assembly as recited in claim 7 further comprising:
- means for connecting RF energy to said assembly.
- 9. An assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein said means for connecting is for connection of RF energy to said electrode for monopolar operation.
- 10. An assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein
- a) said means for guiding includes an electrical return path; and
- b) said means for connecting includes means for connecting the active side of an RF power supply to said electrode, and means for connecting the return path of said RF power supply to said means for guiding, whereby said assembly is configured to operate in bipolar mode.
- 11. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said needle having a hollow core is constructed of nickel-titanium.
- 12. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said control structure means for extending and retracting said needle includes:
- a) a central portion having one or more guide bars extending therefrom, and said guide bars terminating in an end block; and
- b) a slidable portion coaxially and slidably mounted on said central portion with said guide bars extending therethrough, and said slidable portion having said needle attached thereto;
- whereby as said slidable portion is moved relative to said central position, said needle is also moved relative to said central portion.
- 13. An assembly as recited in claim 12 wherein
- a) said needle is an RF electrode; and
- b) said assembly further comprises means for application of RF energy to said electrode for monopolar operation.
- 14. An assembly as recited in claim 13 further comprising:
- means for deflecting said electrode at a predetermined angle from a primary axis of said electrode.
- 15. An assembly as recited in claim 13 wherein said electrode is constructed from nickel-titanium.
- 16. An assembly as recited in claim 12 wherein
- a) said needle is an RF electrode; and
- b) said means for guiding said needle is an electrical conductor serving as an RF energy return path; and
- c) said assembly further comprises means for connecting said electrode and said means for guiding to a source of RF energy for bipolar operation.
- 17. An assembly as recited in claim 16 further comprising:
- means for deflecting said electrode at an angle from a primary axis of said electrode.
- 18. An assembly as recited in claim 16 wherein said electrode is constructed from nickel-titanium.
- 19. An assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said needle supply means is for injecting liquid through said hollow core.
